UK Football Team

With the Olympics coming up, plus some comments by the boys at FIFA there's this talk of a United Kingdom football team.

I have to say, I don't think this should be the case. Our international teams are as old as the sport so they should all be kept separate.

However, I do think we should play a British Isles team once a year or every other year. get the best of England, Scotland, Wales, Ulster & Eire to play against another mixed team. Maybe the best of the Iberian Peninsular or Scandinavia. North America (that includes Mexico) can play South America and western Asia can play against eastern Asia. maybe even a fun tournament where they play each other once. And if people are saying that players are playing too many games and are getting burnt out, then limit it to Under 23 year olds like the Olympics.

Anyway, I'm off to work.

My main worry about this is that Sepp Blatter has been going on for years about preferring a Great Britain football team to the four nations' teams on the international stage, and if Britain are willing to enter one for the Olympics, he might try and force us to play one team in all international competitions. If there are guarantees that that won't happen, then I'm happy with it, but I sure as hell don't want to lose the magnificent (-ly average) Welsh footie team.

Being a Welsh Hammers fan, I still couldn't find it within me to put either of them in the squad at the moment. What about the centre back of the Mighty MK Dons Craig Morgan? No....you sure?

Mayb Given could make the team and perhaps nah.....

But our last decent generation lost out in a playoff v Russia when sparky was manager, and the one before that was in 1958. :p

Adu is with Benfica and he's only 18 and he's scored a goal in one of his 3 appearances....and he's not really a goal scorer, he's a great dribbler and he distributes the ball.

Eric Wynalda, Alexi Lalas, Cobi Jones, Claudio Reyna, Brad Friedel, and Eddie Pope were good....the US has had some good players and we're getting better. Jozy Altidore is a BEAST and he's only 18. Clint Dempsey is doing just fine for Fullham. Landon Donovan is good when he is used correctly. Eddie Johnson is good, and there are even more young players that are going to make their mark on the WORLD of soccer.


If England has such good players then why do they need Northern Ireland and Wales to fill out their squad??? And if Wales and Northern Ireland are seperate countries from England why would they want to join up on the same team......that's gay

Trust me, we don't want to join up on the same team. It's just fucking politics and thoughts that it could be good for the Olympics. I don't mind if its a one-off, with equal representation from each nation, but I'd look at it more like I'd look at an European All-stars team rather than a national team.

And big up Cobi Jones, wherever he is. I remember him after the 94 World Cup and wanting hair like that. Ledge.

I know that outside of England proper hell and even inside England that nobody liked being under the rule of a King or Queen....especially the Irish.

I know Northern Ireland is protestant and that had a lot to do with the split between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. World War I didn't help much either as Ireland was going to be set free and then due to the war that got delayed and up started the IRA.

I will confess I don't know much about Wales though.


Also a unification like this would be like Puerto Rico joining up with America....wouldn't do much for the team as a whole but it would really piss off the Puerto Ricans who have pride in doing for themselves....that is what I base my opinion on so if I have it wrong then please, enlighten me

In Europe, England is the Rich kid with nice clothes and expensive shoes who sits at the top of the class and gets dropped to school in a brand new BMW After school he will be a doctor or accountant maybe a politician.

Scotland is the less intellectual ordinary kid who kid sitting just behind England. He is ordinary and as he has a poor family he is notorious for spending little at lunch. He dislikes England becuse England is so rich.

Wales sits half way back in the class, She's a nice young lady and although he is very good at sports and music, she goes largely unnoticed. However she never gets credit for he efforts. She is resentful of the recognition England gets for being top of the class, although it is her who puts in a lot of the work.

Ireland is the class joker, multi talented, but lazy and donning a "i'll do it tomorrow attitude," he's consistently late for class andis famed forhis friendship with young wales and scotland. He cannot stand Engladn as England's get work done demeanour clashes awfully with his aspirations to live in a world where everybody lives for the weekend and work is optional.

I think I was in the same class as England in school, and beat him up and stole his lunch money once a week. Poor kid also had to explain to his dad why his mobile phone was broken and another school shirt got ripped. I still think it was justified.

If anyone ever liked the idea of welfare they only need go to Europe and see the lazy bastards over there....when you have riots over having a 30-35 hour work week you're a country of lazy bastards.

Don't get me wrong, I love France, it's a great country and the people are nice but the economics of France and majority of Europe are horrible. Ireland did well recently though, lowering taxes.....once you guys realize lowering taxes is a good thing then you'll do better.

How many Amero's for a Euro??? That sounds like fiscal suicide for the US...why not invite the Cubans in as well.

.....might as well, this whole idea is shit but it seems bound to happen as our borders are porous and there is nothing that's going to change that, not terrorism not anything.

Look at history and everyone will see this Euro, Amero, system won't work. Asia is too big and too diverse....where does Russia fit in....and Simon Bolivar already tried to make a unified South America and he failed miserably.

But no we're destined to repeat this idiotic idea....and all this means is that when a downturn in the stock market hits we're all going to be up shit's creek.

Right now the US is basically taking the slow route to turning the almighty dollar into what the Deutchmark was circa 1929.

I really have no issues with Canada or Canadians but I am not a socialist and I don't want their government....I have no issue with Mexico or Mexicans in general but I don't want my country to be overrun with their poor and believe you me they have a lot more than America does.

Do you really think so??? I think that a situation of that sort would be even more catastrophic now than it was then. At least in the 30s there was potential for some growth and plentiful supplies of fuel etc so that the economy could recover. That sort of crash, and the whole world is going to hell in a handbasket as they say.

What about a return to the semi-agricultural economy most of the "developed" world still had back then?

The dollar continues to fall in value and it's a steady fall...along with the healthcare and immigration issues it makes you wonder.


Also you could never get the American people to switch from the dollar without making it extremely worth their while.

You're so right, Lyle. The previous generation of Americans made such a Utopia (for many) that this current generation is a bunch of fat lazy ignorant ENTITLED fuckers.

I may not agree with you (99%) some of the time but you always try to be informed. Many under 30 Americans are so secular you'd think there was no news or Internet. People here have gotten lazy, dumb and are falling behind.

It's what has happened to every great empire/civilization :-\

Saying that, I do like Californians though ;D They just don't drink enough....

Not just the states mate...the benefits culture here is ridiculous. My pop's a Yorkshireman, and if he heard I was on benefits he'd probably kick me out of the house. But for so many people its just a way of life, get benefits, and spend the rest of the time hustling more cash or just scoring drugs. F***ing shoot the bastards. Or send them to some sort of ghetto where they can do it out of sight and not bother normal people. Maybe we could build walls around Rotherham and use that.... ;)
