Jones Vs Trinidad in January 08' Does anyone really care?
I have to admit at one time Roy Jones and Felix Trinidad were two of the most talented fighters on the planet like them or hate them you respected their skill...But now Jones has proved beatable even fragile to an extent..
Trinidada has showed he is not a TRUE champion by the way he just decides to retire the second he loses...Not take a minute off to recoup plain out retires..plus he is not even a gracious loser...
Felix is back WAAAYYYYYY past his best weight as we all seen even 160 was a bit over his head when he faced elite comp...
Jones is on his way out just hoping for one last glory pose.....
Is this really worth the efforts?
Just my opp wondering what everyone else thinks on it as a Serious fight?

Re: Jones Vs Trinidad in January 08' Does anyone really care?
na not really lol, i mean id watch it for the same reason id watch to little men go at it with 20 oz gloves on, its pointless but its gunna be funny as fuck.
they are both shot fighters who are sadly ruining their own greatness by carrying on this charade.
-
Re: Jones Vs Trinidad in January 08' Does anyone really care?
I care, I will still pay attention to the fight
The two are at least in my top 4 fave fighters of all time tito at number one blatantly..
And i will still root for tito.. But the one word that comes to mind when i think of thing fight is..
" WRONG " .. They are both past it, both may struggle and there are many factors to be decided come fight night to see who will end up the winner
It will come down to, Has roy recovered and the time off done him well ..
Has Felix still got power, he does look well in a big frame as ive seen in a fair few pictures and he can certainly fill out in a number of fights but like many others im sure that there may never be more then one more fight win or loose.. And of course till january with no experiance in warm up fights im not sure about the weight of tito in the fight..
There are too many questions for both fighters but we will have to wait and see but yes i am interested and looking forward to the fight

Re: Jones Vs Trinidad in January 08' Does anyone really care?
I could care less; pretty much feel like Preme does. I don't know if this will be PPV, but if it is no way I'm paying for it. I don't even understand what the end result of this fight could possibly mean for either guy, or the fans for that matter. JMO

Re: Jones Vs Trinidad in January 08' Does anyone really care?
I love love love both these fighters and both of them are all time greats, but I'm not sure about this fight at all. If RJJ doesn't want him,he'll look bad. He wins,so what,Tito is at best,a 160 pounder. Even if Tito wins,so what,RJJ is old. Neither fighter wins unless they look really spectacular.
I'll watch it because I'm such a fan.

Re: Jones Vs Trinidad in January 08' Does anyone really care?
No.
Which is more ridiculous, this or Vargas/Mayorga? Probably this one, as pointless as Vargas/Mayorga is it could actually end up being fairly exciting even though Mayorga's shot and Vargas is shot and fat.
-
Re: Jones Vs Trinidad in January 08' Does anyone really care?
I have to agree...I will watch the fight because of who they are but Magic Man stated it best this is a fight where neither man has anything to win in this and it has become more of a each man has to take the fight to save face.....Sad part is just as El G said even the winner is the loser because of the obvious...A former ATG LHW champ beats a guy who at best was a MW...the other beat a guy way past his years of worth...

Mayorga/Vargas, lol. I am watching this one I decided just for the expected unexpected stuff. Vargas will be doing commercials with Kirstie Alley for Jenny Craig after this and Mayorga will probably get diagnosed with lung cancer and sue Marlboro to get some more $$$.

Re: Jones Vs Trinidad in January 08' Does anyone really care?
The only way this fight makes itself seem right or goes down to serve as a win for both's legacy would be this ideal situation
..Both guys have to put up one hell of a fight.. Show heart, blood and guts entertainment to the full both have shown heart
I want this fight to be like this
Can you remember how you felt about Erik Morales' heart after he beat diaz and got robbed..
Well.. Imagine the erik morales of that night fighting himself of the same night and that bieng what tito v rjj has to be to even begin to do any good for either fighter
We could hope anyway

Re: Jones Vs Trinidad in January 08' Does anyone really care?
I tjink it can be summed to: Does anyone care:NO!!!!!
Will we watch it? Yes. They are still ATG. Is anyone not going to watch it at all?
-
Re: Jones Vs Trinidad in January 08' Does anyone really care?
No disrespect to each guy for what they accomplished.....when they were actually good. This Is a Piece o' crap farce IMO.Jones was clammering for Tito BEFORE Hopkins dismanteled him.At welter Trinidad was a sensation and from the minute he destroyed Thin man Blocker and Garcia I was hooked.
But he is not a middleweight. Its starting to be sad when you retire more than Leonard.Jones is "fighting" on borrowed time and can be starched at any time IMO.Just hope Tito waits until the end of the fight to retire again and not During it.....But I'll pray for Titos Hook.I'll pray hard but I wont buy this.

I think it is PPV, which means I won't be paying for it. I'd only watch the replay on HBO the following week if I hear it wasn't a borefest. If it's another Hopkins-Trinidad/Wright-Trinidad, been there, done that.

Carzy stuff dude. Pavlik/Taylor{best fight this year imo} and Kess/Cal were FREE. But RJJ/Trinidad being sold to the public is almost criminal. Not trying to take away anything from these guys and their greatness, but at this time HBO can suck a test#cle if they think I'm paying for this one.
-
Re: Jones Vs Trinidad in January 08' Does anyone really care?
I really don't care that this is on PPV. One cause I'm not watching it either way. Two because HBO (I think) doesn't have just an unlimited budget for regular non PPV boxing cards and if this one was put on there it might be at the expense of a much better fight.

Are you kidding me?
You think tito - Hopkins was boring?
Pshhh..
That was a masterpiece on the part Of Bhop and it takes a true fan to experiance skill and showmanship like that

Much of what you say is valid, but I do have a problem with your claim that Trinidad is not a TRUE champion because he decides to retire. I mean, the man ducked no one and came to FIGHT every night!! Not a gracious loser? The man had nothing but respect for his opponents and for all people in general. I also think Trinidad is judged by his most notable losses to Wright and Hopkins, but he fought ELITE competition all of his career (you could look it up as Yogi would say), especially when he became champ at 147. As for his fight with Jones, I definitely care about it. Maybe I am like one of those boxers who keeps hanging on for that one last chance at glory. I am hanging on for that one last moment of thrill that Tito used to give his fans, when whole bars would erupt when Trinidad would suddenly erupt with that classic left hook. Since I have been watching boxing, no one has generated the excitement of Tito during a fight, at least no one that I have followed. So come January, I will be there at the Garden watching Felix and hoping for one more thrill ride.

I am very interested in this fight as a big fan of both fighters. And I also have a funny feeling that this fight might be better than most think.

FELIX IS A SORE LOSER PERIOD!!!!! Dont even bother trying to defend him there is no valid excuse...he talked trash before hopkins,,he lost he retired,,,he came back beat Mayorga talked trash on how he was going to prove he was the best....got beat and retired....No way to defend that...Actions speak louder then words

Dude, you seriously have personal issues with Tito. I don't recall Tito ever talking trash. If you recall CORRECTLY, Hopkins was doing all the trash talking before his fight with Tito. Remember the whole flag controversy when B-hop kept throwing it on the floor, stomping it? Remember when he did that in Puerto Rico and he was chased off the stage by fans and barely escaped death by running? Tito is not known as a trash talker. If he says he is going to defeat an opponent, or expresses his confidence, is that "trash talking" or confidence? I say the latter. The way you make it sound, he is like a Mayweather or even a Hopkins. Those guys are trash talkers. Tito's not. In terms of retirng, perhaps he doubts his ability to beat the top guys and retires because of it. Then maybe he feels that desire to hear the crowd chanting "Tito, Tito, Tito..." (and perhaps hears the ringing of the cash register) and decides to unretire. Is Oscar de la Hoya a sore loser because he retires every other day? Clearly, Tito unretires for the financial gain and if he says it's because he feels he can defeat the top guys, he's only doing what most athletes do-claim it's not about the money. You should know that dude.

After the Mayorga fight Tito was not standing in the ring yelling he was #1?...He is the best?...The real champion??....C'Mon Rican.....I never said Felix was not a great fighter when he fought I just said he was a sore loser period!...Did he even acknowledge the fact or give credit to Hopkins or Wright for their wins? NO...OK Hopkins I can understand because Bernard totally went off of trash talk in the ring and insulted the Puerto Rican people with the whole flag thing...But what about Wright?...Winky is a class act all the way....No credit to his opp...Hell he went AWOL right after the fight....
You answered your own question Rican when you said he questioned his ability to beat the top tier....True fighters with the heart of a champion get back in the ring not walk away :-\...Sorry just how I feel about it...Like I said in my earlier post...His retiring after the Hopkins fight was one thing coming back making claims he was "BACK" and "Tito" is #1 came flowing out of his mouth like water over the falls until he lost to Winky...Then he went AWOL.....
As for Oscar...I am not a fan of his but his resume is one that can not be criticized win or lose he fights only the best guy available

The only thing I am wondering right now is why a guy named Rican...Added a smilely face blowing a kiss when commenting to me....

It was a question period....How does everyone feel about two once Pound for pound ranked guys fighting past their prime....nothing more nothing less
The only thing I am wondering right now is why a guy named Rican...Added a smilely face blowing a kiss when commenting to me....
Boy, you wonder a lot. First it's about this topic, now why I blew a kiss at you. Well, since you are wondering, I was simply trying to tease you with the last post. You clearly feel strongly about this issue and something about Tito Trinidad bothers you a lot and boils your blood pressure. So, the kiss, with a smile, means I am trying to eliminate the tension and keep it cool dude. Nothing more, nothing less.

Well heres one back to ya Doll Face :-* and CC #27.....Fact is though in all seriousness it has nothing to do with Felix personally...I would feel the same way about any fighter who did the same thing.....
Either be a fighter or don't.....Things can't always go your own way...You lose you suck it up and move on....If he lost to a no body then I could understand him thinking to himself..."Hey this is no good I just lost to Glass Joe it's time to retire before things really get bad"....But no he lost to Hopkins and Wright two pound for pound greats of our era....

Will we watch it? Yes. They are still ATG. Is anyone not going to watch it at all?
If it's not PPV I'll watch it.
I think it is PPV, which means I won't be paying for it. I'd only watch the replay on HBO the following week if I hear it wasn't a borefest. If it's another Hopkins-Trinidad/Wright-Trinidad, been there, done that.
Are you kidding me?
You think tito - Hopkins was boring?
Pshhh..
That was a masterpiece on the part Of Bhop and it takes a true fan to experiance skill and showmanship like that

::**, Maybe you didn't get the memo:
B-Hop ain't one of the two fighters who'll be in the ring.

Re: Jones Vs Trinidad in January 08' Does anyone really care?
its not a match that mean much in the overall picture, but its interesting , I enjoyed watching both these fighters at their best, and even as they both decline victims of father time , there is still some level of intrigue wouldn’t you agree?

I want RJJ to look fantastic in this fight. If he does we could see him in against the winner of Hopkins v Calzaghe.

Re: Jones Vs Trinidad in January 08' Does anyone really care?
At one time about seven years ago the plan was for Trinidad the unify the middleweight title then fight Jones at a catch weight of 168 pounds, but Hopkins destroyed that plan and Trinidad too. What would have been a hot fight back then just seems like an oldies tour idea, like when Larry Holmes fought a rematch with Mike Weaver in the late 1990s or 2000.
