Thoughts on undercard for this weekend?
The main event is AMAZING but the undercard is almost as good. Margarito NEEDS to look good in this fight imo. I want to see Tony KTFO Johnson. People are making Johnson out to be some bum,but this shows a lack of knowledge. This guy has fought tough fighters, prospects, champions, the lost and done ok. He's on a good run. Tony HAS to look good though.
I'm nto sure about Santa Cruz and Cas. Cas looked poor v Chico and has been inactive since. Santa Cruz has been working on his weakness, his stamina,so it could be a lot closer than most think.
Ortiz is stepping up v the awkward Muassa but if he is as good as most say he is,he should win. It'll be tough though.
Re: Thoughts on undercard for this weekend?
I'll be honest, I am appreciative of all the undercard, but I only have eyes for Tony on that night, as far as the undercard. That probably sounds gay :-[

Re: Thoughts on undercard for this weekend?
Margarito TKO round 9
'Vicious' Ortiz TKO round 4
those are my predictions.
Really hope Margarito wins but Ortiz is the future love the way he fights, hes just vicious. ;)

He fights, acts, and has a very similiar nickname to "Ferocious" Fernando Vargas. Comes from the same place too, Oxnard, CA. Kid is less of a punk than Vargas was though, he's rasing his little brother by himself, and working and boxing. He's a very tuff kid. I love watchin him fight too, like you said Mick, he is Vicious.

I've read people say that about him & Vargas but like you said hes nothing like him at least up until now he hasn't behaved that way.
I also think that anyone who comes from 'La Colonia' is automatically linked to Vargas regardless of how a fighter may fight. ???
Anyway I wish the kid well and I hope he puts on some fire works.
Re: Thoughts on undercard for this weekend?
good card..
golden johnson is a live underdog.. a good solid fighter johnson.
Re: Thoughts on undercard for this weekend?
I must admit it looks like a fairly exciting and competitive undercard, with most of the "names" on there going to at least get some sort of challenge, but you'd expect most of them to pull through.
I agree with you El Gamo about the Margarito fight, he has to look good if he's got any aspirations of getting back into the world title mix.
Re: Thoughts on undercard for this weekend?
I don't think I've seen Ortiz fight yet or if I have,I don't remember, what is his style like? A possible elite fighter in a poor division?

Totally right man. If Tony looks bad,he could be in trouble.Come on Margarito!

Yup,good posting bro. Most that say Johnson is a bum either don't know about him or havent seen him. He's a decent fighter who has looked good in his last 3 or 4 fights, but his age and inactivity(hasn't fought in a year) could be his undoing. My Margariot checklist:
Needs to use DEFENCE AND OFFENCE
Start early
Go for KO.
Be ACTIVE 100%
Re: Thoughts on undercard for this weekend?
I love undercards. I truely do. :)
Re: Thoughts on undercard for this weekend?
I just love watching Carlos Maussa.
Funny as fuck.
:D
Re: Thoughts on undercard for this weekend?
I saw a full list of the undercards earlier, any idea what thread it was in anyone?
Thanks

Yes you have, I uploaded his second to last fight and you said he looked OK but didn't impress you much.
Maybe someone to keep an eye on..
I disagreed with you and told you the kid was something else. The way in which he fights and they way he throws punches is wow!!

Re: Thoughts on undercard for this weekend?
So many interesting aspects of this weekends undercard...how tony bounces back, after all the constant trash talking how impressive joel will look, will he try too hard to impress, and how good is pretty much undefeated ortiz (only loss by dq) . I can't wait i'm still curious as to how cottos lack of defense to gain offense and his chin hold up against the speed, expericence and movement of mosley.

Yeh it is easily the best undercard of the year. And fellow Setanta viewers like me will have the joy of watching David Haye vs Mormeck as a nice little warm up.
I'm interested in seeing how Joel does after being inactive for a while and poor against Chico.
I'm most looking forward to watching Maussa.....that guy cracks me up big time. His style is awesome.
Anybody remember the him running across the ring to land a jumping floor punch when he had put Vivian harris down?
;D priceless
Re: Thoughts on undercard for this weekend?
For some reason I think I picked Margarito by decision, not stoppage in the prediction competition. Probably should have picked stoppage.
I got Casa to pick apart Santa Cruz and I think he stops him late cause Santa Cruz has a history of gassing out. Still think Casa's past his best but he's got enough for this.
I'm like Mick, I'm pretty high on Ortiz. Plus we get to see Maussa. Has there ever been a better guy to admit to formerly being a devil worshipper ;D ???
I can picture The Maussa chanting satanic songs around a fire, sacrificing a cow or some shit. It just fits.

Ha Ha CC Ouma
Maussa is a legend and you know it boy!
He's actually my 2nd favourite fighter behind Hatton.....purely for comedy reasons.

Definatly.....will do !!!
Re: Thoughts on undercard for this weekend?
I was surprised at how fast margarito disposed of Johnson... the uppercut was thrown with such intensity , you’ve got to love Margarito's mindset. he comes to fight, not one to hide behind his reach advantage like some. good for boxing, same goes for Paul Williams and Kermit Cintron . This lot are an exciting watch
