Yeah I guess Jones could be on the list just for his brilliant entertaining performances.
Hopkins most certainly couldn't.
It's funny how Hopkins is regarded as such a great fighter yet he never gets a mention when it comes to great fights.

The ring held an article sometime last year distinguishing between great fighters and exciting fighters using Ali as a basis. The theory was that most great fighters are so goo that they dominate the competition to such an extent that they are not entertaining and it takes another great fighter to be involved in a great fight with them. It went on to say how most exciting fighters are not great as they get hurt, sacrifice skill for brawling and often fizzle out due to their style.

Yeah I see the point.
But I would bet MOST great fighters have been involved in a great fight.
Sticking with middleweights.
It's easy to see the appeal of Roy Jones. Even if he's dominating an opponent he's bloody entertaining whilst doing it.
But Hopkins? How can one of the supposed greatest middleweights ever not make a list of greatest ever middleweight fights? :-\
He never beat people with consummate ease like Roy. He wins UGLY. So what's the appeal?

Well i believe that for every great fighter, thete is one great career defining fight.
Ali solidified his greatness vs. Frazier/Foreman
SRR solidified his greatness vs. LaMotta
Hagler solidified his greatness V Hearns.
Other champions with the lack of one great nemesis dominate the mediocre competition impressively for long periods of time....Hopkins did it with wins over DLH, Trinidad and Meracdo.
Jones did it too....The nature in which they won their mediocre sized fights was the impressive part.

I agree Hopkins in his younger days was entertaining but in his later years he was not exciting to watch at all and alot of his fights were dirty fights and just boring to watch all round you know i appreciate the sweet science but i just can't enjoy a Hopkins fight.
Atleast Jones was entertaining i love how he embarrassed Toney when Toney tried to copy Jones that was hilarious.
How about Charles Brewer vs Antwun Echols that was barn burner.

Re: Best Middleweight And SuperMiddleweight Fights Ever

If i can remember right Brewer floored Echols 3 times then Echols comeback and TKO Brewer only lasts 3 rounds but its exciting while it lasts.

Re: Best Middleweight And SuperMiddleweight Fights Ever
First off let me say that "Best Ever" is a tuff sell for me...as I am a middle & super middle junkie...I just have to list my favorites...so here's a short list. ;D
Stanley Ketchel vs Jack Johnson (Ketchel fights out of weight class...as usual.)
Arthur Abraham vs Edison Miranda (Loved it...all out war that wasn't as one sided as Miranda fans preach.)
Arthur Abraham vs Khoren Gevor (Busted them Armenian chops.)
Arthur Abraham vs Kingsley Ikeke (Honestly...this is one of those that I will always remember. Brought me into Abraham.)
Edison Miranda vs Howard Eastman (Actually showed how limited Miranda was...but still a goody.)
Howard Eastman vs William Joppy (Made me love Eastman...for the slacker he is.)
Howard Eastman vs Steve Foster (Good knockout from Eastman)
Howard Eastman vs Sam Soliman
Chris Eubank vs Nigel Benn
Nigel Benn vs Gerald McClellan (Horrible but amazing fight.)
Marvin Hagler vs Thomas Hearns (Hagler being one of my FOAT...this made me love boxing 160lbs...nothing tops THE WAR!!!)
Marvin Hagler vs Fulgencio Obelmejias
Marvin Hagler vs Roberto Duran
Marvin Hagler vs John Mugabi
Thomas Hearns vs Sugar Ray Leonard 1 & 2 (Ray Leonard makes me wanna puke...& this punctuated it!)
Kelly Pavlik vs Jermain Taylor (Picked it from the start & loved the stoppage!!)
Kelly Pavlik vs Fulgencio Zúñiga (One of the most impressive ones that I saw)
Kelly Pavlik vs Bronco McKart
Kelly Pavlik vs Edison Miranda (Would have paid PPV dollars for this one. Total domination!!!)
Felix Sturm vs Oscar De la Hoya (Sturm showed class...by getting robbed.)
Felix Sturm vs Maselino Masoe
Felix Sturm vs Bert Schenk
Jeff Lacy vs Robin Reid (Big step up for Jeff!)
Jeff Lacy vs Scott Pemberton (Guilty Pleasure)
Jeff Lacy vs Syd Vanderpool (Assault with two deadly weapons!)
Joe Calzaghe vs Chris Eubank (Great fight with too many excuses. Huge step up for Joe)
Joe Calzaghe vs Mario Viet 1 & 2 (Straight up beatdowns)
Joe Calzaghe vs Jeff Lacy (Called it from the get go & it was a beaut)
Joe Calzaghe vs Byron Mitchell (Showed Joe's chin & class)
Joe Calzaghe vs Mark Delaney (Blowout!)
Joe Calzaghe vs Mger Mkrtchian (Didn't expect Joe to handle him so well.)
Joe Calzaghe vs Mikkel Kessler (FOTY for me...outside of Pavlik Taylor)
Bernard Hopkins vs Felix Trinidad (Drew up the blueprint.)
Bernard Hopkins vs Steve Frank (Blew him out like a candle)
Bernard Hopkins vs Joe Lipsey (Retired him in devastating fashion)
Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones Jr (Everyone hates it...but I loved it.)
Bernard Hopkins vs William Joppy (Turned Jopps into John Merrick)
Winky Wright vs Trinidad (Followed the blueprint.)
Winky Wright vs Jermain Taylor (Draw shoulda been a win for Wright)
Jermain Taylor vs Alex Bunema (Taylor hammered him out & how!)
Jermain Taylor vs Marcos Primera (Quality battering.)
Jermain Taylor vs Nicolas Cervera (Another hammer out...wonder how he fell from grace.)
While there are plenty of other fights out there...those are the first that would be greats for me.

Brown laying on the canvas jabbing into mid air was Insane.Really Brutal, even more so than Morrison sitting in his corner hooking off the jab after Mercer rendered him KTFO.
Really the beginning of the end for Brown and really sad as well was his similar KO loss to featherfisted David "Popeye" Reid.Ive always enjoyed Brown but all of his wars took an unforgiving toll.

For a fight with two legends, two real rugged warriors, it was a snoozefest!
