Its a little tricky ICE,You could say that Living the sheer action as opposed to seeing the tapes or Dvd's Left a permanent Impression? To me there is a vivid "feeling it " factor when you watch fights live. That being said on those names alone I would go with the 70's era. When I watched them You could put them into perspective in history, how the fighters turned out and how It affected The division .I guess for me It comes down to Living it and watching it recorded.... ???If that made any sense at all? Just glad to be along for the ride with some of those great battles.Who cares how or when ;D
Re: Did 90s Hw Era Have Even Better Fights Than 70s Hw Era ??
good post 8)
similar times 70's and the 90's. exciting times for heavyweight boxing . mainly because of the conditioning .. for the majority of heavyweights were in true boxing condition back then ,,the fighters that were 6’4 - 6’5 weighed in and around 220's . frank bruno always came in correct for his matches, a well conditioned athlete ..ali ,frazier, norton, foreman, holmes, lewis, bowe, holyfield ,cooper, moorer, morrison , tua, mercer , on and on all around the mid 220's if not lighter at their best . that conditioning, it shows up on film which makes for an entertaining match.. my belief is that a fighter has an obligation to the paying fight fan, to be at his best weight for each match . you don't see that so much in todays heavyweights . guys like brock should weight in at about 218 tops. 240 is a joke. go across the board.. sam peter 224 if he was in true condition.. the sport would be much better for it.
Re: Did 90s Hw Era Have Even Better Fights Than 70s Hw Era ??
Throw in the Ali V Norton fights and for sheer brutality the Foreman V Frazier destructions and i give the 70's the nod.
Re: Did 90s Hw Era Have Even Better Fights Than 70s Hw Era ??
Bowe Holyfield would beat most of the 70's fights, but because of people like Lewis (boring but good) the 70's gets the nod
Re: Did 90s Hw Era Have Even Better Fights Than 70s Hw Era ??
70's by A LANDSLIDE
Don't get my wrong, 90's was a good to great era of Heavyweight Boxing. Right now, the 00's are making the 90's look like a Golden Era of Heavyweight boxing, heheh.
But lets not lose perspective here.
Re: Did 90s Hw Era Have Even Better Fights Than 70s Hw Era ??
I'd go with the 70's figts, just because it seems all heavies after that were, and still are , judged by those titan like fights made by the likes of Ali, Foreman, Frazier. Though watching Mercer beat the manhood out of Morrison was very entertaining :D
Re: Did 90s Hw Era Have Even Better Fights Than 70s Hw Era ??
The 90's fighters might beat the 70's fighters, but the Ali-Frazier trilogy had more action and probably more punches than all the 90 heavyweight fights combined.

No it didn't.
Holyfield vs Bowe 1 and 2 and Ike vs Tua had more punches thrown than in Ali and Frazier trilogy.

That makes no sense to me so just because Lewis was boring the 70s get the nod ?? Ali was also in alot of stinkers aswell.

Holyfield vs Bowe 1 and 2 and Ike vs Tua had more punches thrown than in Ali and Frazier trilogy.
You have no idea what your talking about, Up until Ike vs Tua, Ali-Frazier 3 had the most punches in compubox history by a significant amount, the first two fights didn't have compubox records, but they threw more punches in 1 and 2 than they did in 3. Holyfield and Bowe had nowhere near the same amount of punches as any Ali-Frazier fight. Besides I was being hyperbolic.
Re: Did 90s Hw Era Have Even Better Fights Than 70s Hw Era ??
No need to be rude Taeth Holyfield vs Bowe 2 had 1300+ punches thrown if my memory serves me right and Tua and Ike had 1700 + punches thrown the most in any other Heavyweight fight with Compubox and Ali vs Frazier 2 fight was 12 rounder and that was nowhere near the war 1 and 3 was so i doubt that had more punches thrown than Ike vs Tua or Ali and Fraizer 1 and 3 i don't know how many punches were thrown in Holyfield vs Bowe 1 but it must be well up there.
I wouldn't say theres much difference in numbers.

cc ICB keep fighting the ignorance
Re: Did 90s Hw Era Have Even Better Fights Than 70s Hw Era ??
I just found the numbers here we go.
Tua vs Ike = 1784
Ali vs Frazier 3 = 1591
Tua vs Izon = 1574
Bowe vs Holyfield 2 = 1300

How long were all the 90's fights? 12 rounds weren't they? I just watched pieces of Ali-Frazier 2, maybe you should rewatch it... there was more punches thrown in that fight than any Bowe-Holyfield fight, and just because it wasn't as much of a war doesn't mean that Ali wasn't throwing a hell of a lot of punches. Also in Ali-Frazier III Ali threw over 900 punches, and was just shy of what Ike threw against Tua, and Frazier wasn't far behind if Tua-Ibeabuchi had the most punches then Ali-Frazier III was behind by what? 200 punches? I guarantee that fight had less punches than Ali-Frazier 1, and probably Ali-Frazier 2 because Ali was in bad shape for 3, and Frazier was worn down by then, I am not saying they had a lot more punches, but they had more, and I've seen Holyfied-Bowe 2, and that fight certainly didn't have the numbers of any of the Frazier-Ali fights.

I haven't watched Frazier vs Ali 2 for long time but i remember it being way less active than there other 2 meetings.

Ali vs Frazier 3 was much more one sided so thats why Ali was able to throw that many in 3rd fight and Ali vs Frazier 1 had more punches thrown obvisiously because both men were much younger fitter ect but 200 punches is still alot i bet there isn't much difference between Ike vs Tua.
Im just saying i doubt theres that much difference in punches thrown but cc for good arguement i will leave it at that.
I will rewatch Ali vs Frazier 2 tommorow by the way because its been years since i seen it so my judgement is bit cloudy on that fight.
