Paul Williams seems to be the BEST
I may not be a boxing genuis like most of u people but I just dont see any welter beating him in a 12 round fight. He fought down hill on a tall fighter like margo. throws 100 punches a round, takes a good punch. Is it that no one wants a fighter like that to be at the top because he is the least talked about top welter in the division. This cat is tough to beat.

Re: Paul Williams seems to be the BEST
Paul Williams is an anomaly. I exclude him when I am match making in the welterweight division. I don't think that makes me a bad person.

I think it'd be hard for any of the other top 147 guys to look good against PW, but i dont think he is unbeatable. I think Margarito could beat him if he started off better in the early rounds. He'd be a tough fight for the shorter guys like PBF, Cotto, and Hatton.

Margarito isn't the best this division has too offer, both guys who fought after him would beat him IMO, and maybe quite badly, he had already preformed poorly against Clottey before fighting Williams, and as the fight progressed Williams got weaker, lets see him fight the heavier hitting Cotto or Cintron. I can't see Mosley beat him because he is southpaw, and so tall and fast, but Mayweather would cut down his punch stats by using footwork, and would counter effectively and win a UD.

Out of all the fighters in that division, I see Paul Williams giving my boy PBF the toughest fight, This is the way I see it happening. Floyd stops Hatton on cuts around tthe 9th on cuts. But I believe Citron will be the Dark Horse to prevail, He lost against Margarito but that want happened again. I believe out of Cotto,Margarito and Citron, Citron is the more complete fighter, But I think Williams would give anyone trouble and a lot of it at that.Sorry for all the jumping around, a few brews tonight ;)

To me Williams sells out his power In believing hes Juan diaz.He falls over himself,Gets hit alot(ecspecially L.hooks) and Holds his head way up .Margarito lost First fight by going threw the motions early and not putting it on Williams until mid fight. I think williams is Beatable,Freaky frame or not.Cintron (not a fan ) but he'll give Williams all he can Handle and has the one punch power the Ignite Pauls Chin.Potential Indeed for Williams and future but The ink has yet to dry.Fun to watch what happens.

I don't think Cintron is as complete as Cotto at all...

Re: Paul Williams seems to be the BEST
Bullshat, Williams has not proven he is the best, not by a LONG SHOT! He beat Margarito, barely, but he beat him. That's a good win, but it does not make him the best. His weird body and style could give anyone a tuff time including Floyd, but he has to actually beat the best, to be considered the best. It's like Ric Flair used to say: "To be the MAN, you have to beat the MAN....Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! !"

Re: Paul Williams seems to be the BEST
PW is a great Talent and a anomaly like Boxing Gorilla said but not fully proven at the moment but so far he has been awesome ( :D love that word).
MArgo did catch him to the body a couple of times and rarely(meaning at times) he stays open when he throws. But still he still has a great fight with another power puncher. I can't wait to see that fight even tho Cintron is my countryman i'm going to watch that fight without no side.

Re: Paul Williams seems to be the BEST
What ever Anomaly means, if thats good he's that.

Re: Paul Williams seems to be the BEST
Here is how I rank the WWs right now.
PBF
Cotto
Williams
Margarito
Mosley
Cintron
Clottey
Collazo
Berto
Quintana
Not really sure after Cintron but it sounds about right.
But here is where it gets interesting.
I think Williams could beat Floyd
I think Cotto could beat Williams
I think Cintron could beat Cotto
I think Margarito could beat Cintron again, Steward or no Steward.
I think Clottey could beat Margarito in a rematch
I'll stop here because this is getting confusing... :P

cool click... i agree.. one of Paul's best attributes is that he comes to fight.. Williams does not hide behind his reach.. if you look at the soles of his shoes they are worn on the toe portion, not the heel . Margarito and Cintron also very exciting.

Re: Paul Williams seems to be the BEST
Williams time at 147 is going to be limited imo.He is going to have to move up sooner or later or he's going to be ultra weight drained for one of these fights. He is a good fighter, but he is also beatable.I hope Cintron does it,as the Margarito-Williams fight left a bitter taste in my mouth >:mad >:mad

how is that?? that was a very good match .. Paul is the least beatable of the lot. his hand speed is amazing, his work rate is extraordinary.. And when you can out work Antonio Margorito.. your doing something ! I don’t see anyone beating him at 147!

Being a huge Tony fan, seeing him lose left a bitter taste in my mouth. Had Margarito started like he did on Saturdy,I'm pretty confident he would have beat Williams. Williams is wide open to the body and there to be hit.A jab would land on him all night as would the uppercut,Margarito didn't use the uppercut enough.

So what you're saying is the WW division is open to debate? ;D I think Cotto would have hell with Williams, he's even shorter than Margarito and it's going to be hell for Cotto to get in on PW. Not saying Cotto would lose, but tough to call.
Clottey won't beat Margarito in a rematch, just cause Clottey broke his hand and was giving Tony fits in their 1st fight doesn't mean he would have won without the break. Tony has always gotten better as the fight goes on, and now after showing Saturday he's not playing that game anymore, Clottey would have all he could handle.
Floyd/Williams I don't know. Would be interesting to see how Floyd adapts to PW's freaky output and long reach. Williams could very well win on points, and Floyd isn't knocking anyone out at 147, except geezer Gatti.
Williams, Margarito, Floyd, Clottey and Cotto all send Cintron packing. I'm biased cause' I can't stand Kermit after he shamed himself with Tony. Tony will ruin Kermit if they ever meet again. Paul will throw 2000 punches and keep moving back all night, though if Cintron landed one big punch Paul would probably go sleepy time.
Cotto stops Cintron upper rounds. Cintron hits harder than Mosley, granted, but Cotto took some big rights from Shane and didn't really get too fazed about them. Cotto will most likely take a couple of shots from Cintron, but he'd recover and Kermit would probably fall apart and ask the corner for some Kleenex to stop the tears. Cintron should go back to wrestling and get into MMA.
DISCLAIMER: I'm usually wrong {except for Kermit}

Well Legion, if you notice my post I said "could". ;)
This is what I love about the WW division right now. I mean it is not like the 80s or 90s where you had 3 or 4 guys that were miles away from the competition. Now you have a solid 7 or 8 guys who have a chance to give any of the others an L on that reccord in any given day. Yes I know this sounds like I am blaspheming but I think it is true. I would not be surprised at the outcome of any of those potential fights at WW no matter who wins. The only one that might be a step away from the rest is Floyd but he is also the smallest guy fighting in a weight class he doesn't really belong. So it kinda evens out I think.

I'll make it easier for you guys. Margarito KTFO Cotto,Cintron,Williams.Cotto beats everyone bar Tony(he beats Floyd) Hatton fights Oscar and retires because he knows he would get his ass handed to him by the other guys at 47. Cintron gets the odd win here and there.PW wins a few good fights, moves to 154 and get beaten up(after Tony beats up on him in a rematch). Clottey carries on crying about his hand and Zab still proclaims he is P4P the best.

He doesn't KTFO Cotto no way Cotto is much better allround fighter than Margarito and Williams beats Margarito again thats bit of an ambitious post isn't Gamo ?? and did i read that right ?? you think Cotto loses to Margarito but beats Mayweather ???

Re: Paul Williams seems to be the BEST
Whilst some of it was tongue in cheek,I think Margarito beats Cotto and being a HUGE fan of both fighters,I think I'm in a good positiion to make that assessment. Styles make fights. Margarito's uppercut and pace would be the key. I think Cotto beats Floyd. Styles make fights. Cotto's jab is the key.
Cotto is definitely a better all round fighter than Tony, but Zab is a better all round fighter than Baldo,Vernon is a better all round fighter than Mayorga, but,as I have stated, styles make fights.

Margarito's punches are too wide Cotto has much better tools than Margarito and out points Margarito for sure.

He would need a whole lot more than just a jab Mayweather has beaten great fighters with good jabs before aka G. Hernandez, Oscar De La Hoya,
-
Re: Paul Williams seems to be the BEST
No,Cotto does not "out-point Margarito for sure". So what if Margarito's punches are wide, his uppercuts' arent. And neither Oscar nor Hernandez used their jab as much as Cotto did nor did their jabs posses the power of Cotto's jab.

Re: Paul Williams seems to be the BEST
My doubts:
Paul Williams.... Could struggle with other fighters who are tough, start fast, have fast hands and throw in bunches (Clottey & Cotto).
Also, to a much lesser degree, im dubious about him fighting guys who have that real genuine 'boom-boom' power (Cintron)
Cotto.... Could struggle against rock solid characters who dont wilt, who hit just as hard if not harder or just keep the return pressure up (Clottey, Margarito).
Again, to a lesser degree, im dubious about him fighting guys who have that real genuine 'boom-boom' power (Cintron)
Margarito.... As a slow starter, he could and has struggled with guys with superior boxing ability, hand speed and rock-solid resolves. (Williams, Clottey)
Cintron... Is he likely to crack under pressure? If so you can bet against him in fights with rock-hard power punchers. (Clottey, Margarito, Cotto)
Clottey... Becomes a bit too stationary, dosent use his legs enough. would suffer against slicker, much more varied fighters. Comes in at fights like 165 so obviously cuts huge amounts of weight... maybe his stamina lets him down along the stretch. (Collazo, Williams)
Again, to a lesser degree, im dubious about him fighting guys who have that real genuine 'boom-boom' power (Cintron)
-
Re: Paul Williams seems to be the BEST
In short. Cintron, if he has managed to get past his demons, could well be the man to rule 147.
Also, IMO Clottey is badly overlooked and/ or underrated.
-
Re: Paul Williams seems to be the BEST
Right now i think that Cotto is the best Welterweight yea even better then Floyde because he has had better wins at the weight. But that being said i do not think he can beat Margariot i think he ends up getting Tko but i give him a big chance for beating PBF i think he cold break him down.
