Did everyone think Cotto-Mosley was close?
From were I was sat, I thought Cotto won by about 4 rounds. I didn't think it was that close. My dad taped it for me so I'll watch it again, but everyone around me agreed it was clear Cotto won. I can't believe some people actually thought Mosley won.

You know, thats why boxing is unlike any other sport. My perception (and I am a SSM fan) was that Cotto won by at least 3 rounds. But people see things differently... I mean yes you could look at punch numbers and say it was closer but Cotto was clearly landing the harder, crisper, more effective blows.
Thats my take on it, anyway ;D

It was very close, it all depends on how you like to judge a fight, i mean look at the stats Mosley threw and landed more power shots, they both landed the same amount of punches over 12 rounds, no doubt Cottos punches seemed to be more crisp and damaging. But in truth i wouldnt of really argued with a 115-113 either way, but for his more aggresion i would say Cotto possibly deserved it. But very close fight.

Re: Did everyone think Cotto-Mosley was close?
I always thought Cotto was bossing the fight but Mosley defintely won his fair share of rounds.. close-ish with Cotto always coming out the victor

Re: Did everyone think Cotto-Mosley was close?
I saw it live at the arena and have watched the HBO broadcast as well....
Both times I thought it was a very close fight that could have gone either way.

Re: Did everyone think Cotto-Mosley was close?
If mosley had won 11 & 12 it would of been a draw IMO.
He didnt so it wasnt. (Eventually)

Re: Did everyone think Cotto-Mosley was close?
Cotto was dam impressive though, i dont think anyone with a similar style to Cotto could dominate a fighter like Mosley, to do that you need to be a technical god, so Cotto deserves all props and if next he fights and beats a Williams Mayweather or Hatton there could be arguments for him to be the best fighter in the game right now.

I have to be honest, although a SSM fan I have to say that I must have always underestimated Miguel's jab. He really snaps that out there. More so in this fight then most others I've seen. Cotto's style has always been exciting and his jab looks like it has come along well. His chin looks fine. He is become a more complete fighter with every step up he takes! 8)
Collo looks great! Shane fought a great fight but If you have speed and you don't jab you deserve to lose (you hear me Oscar?---"It just wasn't a night for the jab........")

Re: Did everyone think Cotto-Mosley was close?
it was 115-113 for cotto.

Re: Did everyone think Cotto-Mosley was close?
If was a close fight. Cotto made me nervous the way he fought the 12th. Almost giving away the last round made it seem even closer. But I don't think there was any way Mosley won. I think the scoring was perfect 1-2 rounds to Cotto. Pretty much the way I saw it.

Re: Did everyone think Cotto-Mosley was close?
Well britkid, I didn't order the fight.
Only seen it on youtube. Not that good quality. But from the looks of it Mosley couldn't get away from Cotto's jab or his straight right.
Mosley is starting to take punches again. punches he didn't take under the eye of John David Jackson who was teaching him to box with his hands up. wasn't very exciting but it kept him from taking unnecessary punches. Now that he's back with his father he's back to the habit of getting out with his hands down and crap.
So maybe that Cotto fight taught him a lesson finally. JDJ was a better trainer for him in terms of basics. jack is just gonna tell Shane what to do with his talent, JDJ actually added something else

Re: Did everyone think Cotto-Mosley was close?
Now dont ask how i rememeber this but...
Wasnt it you (Starr) who said Mosley's Jab appered to be getting shorter and shorter with time ???
I rememeber someone saying it, and funnily enough it struck me when it became apparent that Cotto's jab was so much better than Mosley's. (Something i seriously underestimated)

Re: Did everyone think Cotto-Mosley was close?
How was the experience BZKFN,I made a thread about it but I think the thread faded into oblivion ie page 3. I thought Cotto won by 2 or 3 points. It was one of those fights, which are close but no matter what,I laways have Cotto winning.Close but comfortable?

Re: Did everyone think Cotto-Mosley was close?
I was very dissapointed with Mosley's jab and defense. He doesn't adapt defensively... he just resorts to a shoot out, and his jab horrible... he always slings it out, but its very easy to block for the high end guys, kind of like Zab Judah's... I think this is why both of them can't keep opponents at bay while Mayweather can. Roy JOnes Jr also through a distance finder jab most of the time, but he threw every punch in the book so effortlessly and quick that he could use a lead left hook or a lead cross instead of a jab.

I have always stated that Mosley and Judah both have raw athletic skills that are very similar to Floyds. But unlike Floyd, they stand far too flatfooted and are too caught up in throwing power shots and trading.
If Mosley or Judah used their legs and skills like Floyd, they'd be far better fighters. Floyd's versatility and movement is what separates him from those fighters.

Re: Did everyone think Cotto-Mosley was close?
I think it was could be a close fight, but a clear victory for Cotto. I was surprised to see how fast Cotto looked, and sometimes faster than Mosley. Now there are conversations trying to define his next fight and any direction look as a great fight.

Re: Did everyone think Cotto-Mosley was close?
I had Cotto up 6 rounds to two at the end of 8 and Mosley did well in rounds 9 and 10 then inexplicably switched off in 11, i gave him the final round for a 115-113 win for Cotto.

Same here. I saw it more close as was watching the fight live but after seen it again with no alcohol and replaying it several times. 8 to 4 Cotto.

There were alot of jabs that easily could be consider power punches as well for Cotto

In Cotto's case yes because he is a southpaw who was converted therefor he was hitting Shane with his stronger hand. Just look at Mosley's face at the end of the fight. He ate a lot of jabs and pitter patter jabs just don cause that kind of swelling unless you are Arturo Gatti.
Cotto was owning Shane in every area of the game. Even when Shane got on his bike he was still getting taxed. Nothing Shane was doing was working to a science. Shane had his momments but Cotto was making Shane look silly. I love the dodge Cotto did in the final round where made Shane miss something awful and the crowd yelled OLE! HAHAHA! Kellerman was like WTF! Nice move by Cotto, I did not know he that kind of move in him. But, I knew. The best of Cotto is yet to come. ;)
