Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
In my opinion, there are two potential MEGAFIGHTS that could happen in early 2008.
Both would feature fighters who are in their primes and among the top 5-6 fighters PFP in the world.
If you had to choose one, which of these fights would you rather see happen in '08?
(The Floyd-Cotto fight is obviously working under the assumption that Floyd beats Hatton.)

Re: Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
I'd obviously love to see both, but I voted for Mayweather - Cotto. Based purely on the SSM fight, I think Cotto might have the tools and timing to trouble and maybe beat Mayweather (though Cotto didn't look as impressive once SSM started boxing and moving more). Mayweather needs to fight the best of the welterweight division, and the only three fighters I want to see him agaist after the Hatton fight are Margo, PW, or Cotto and I'd much rather see him face the last two.
-
Re: Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
Pac/JMM for me. Tough to give a reason why as they are both huge fights. I guess there are just a couple of other fights I'd rather see Cotto in instead of Floyd.

Re: Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
id like 2 mayweather cotto ...but not by much

Re: Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
Mayweather vs Cotto, obviously. Mayweather on 24/7 is pure entertainment.
Besides we all know that Marquez will adjust to Pacqiaou and school him the second time around from the 1st rd to the 12th.
-
Re: Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
I had to say Cotto/Mosley...Like BigMix said JMM will adjust to Pacquiao and the fight will not be a barn burner....more or less pacquiao chasing for the ko and JMM outboxing him...

Re: Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
I think you lot are counting your chickens way before they've hatched. I don't think we'll ever see Mayweather take on another young unbeaten champion after Dec 8th. He'll probably be seeking out Mosley now he's damaged goods at 147lbs after Hatton destroys him.
-
Re: Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
Is there a consolation prize for me since I'm on my own on this? ;D
Nevermind, I just saw someone else is picking Pac/JMM. Bruce Lee must be here.

I hope you're right, but I just don't see it happening.

Hatton may not destroy him so to speak but if anyone is going to out of all Floyd's opponents it has to be Ricky. If Mayweather can get past Hatton I think he could get past Cotto. Although Cotto is a slicker and rangier boxer than Hatton, he doesn't have the come forward style and footwork of Hatton, he doesn't quite make the gaps like Hatton does, but he does posess devastating power, so does De La hoya and he couldn't land that big left hook. Cotto at this point is dynamite and has better handspeed than Hatton, but he doesn't have that speed of foot to get inside on the guy, he doesn't quite make the angles, he finds them with accuracy, but Mayweather needs to be feinted and pushed to be made open, body or head. I'm not saying Hatton is better than Cotto, but styles make fights. If Hatton ever faught Cotto I'd be watching through the splits in my fingers, but against Mayweather I don't see him having as good a chance as Rick.

That's a fair argument. I think the difference in size and reach between Hatton and Mayweather is going to play a large role in their fight; its going to be tough for Hatton to get close enough to land his shots against Floyd without absorbing some serious punishment. Cotto is only a bit taller than Hatton, but that extra bit of reach will help him if he fights Floyd. I also think Cotto's recent experience against Judah and SSM would be a great assest against Floyd. I don't know if Cotto can beat him, but I think he has a better chance than Hatton. On Dec. 8 I'll still be cheering for Hatton though.

Me I would love to see Pavlik - Calzaghe bout after the rematch.

Re: Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
Rafael Marquez/Israel Vazquez winner-Daniel Ponce De Leon. But I voted Mayweather-Cotto
-
Re: Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
Outta the two Floyd/ Cotto
But I'm looking forward to Vasquez/ Marquez 3!!!

Re: Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
I voted for Pac-Marquez II because me thinks Ricky will win on Dec 8th.
Not a knock on Floyd, but I can't see anyone beating Cotto at Welter.

That is an interesting thing you say. U dont think any of PBF, Williams, Margarito, could beat Cotto. I personally think Floyd would b too skilled and smart, and Williams could maybe b too tall and work too hard for Cotto.
How come u dont think he could b beat?
-
Re: Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
Marquez v Pacquiao he needs to step it up PacMan by fighting JMM,Valero or J Diaz and not taking the easy option.

He just has so many different skills. While Williams is tall, he'd get sucked in. He likes to stay busy and make a point of throwing more punches. I think Cotto would be allowed space to get in close and I think the body shots would take their toll. I'd see that fihgt going similar to Diaz-Diaz were the smaller man would be able to walk through the onslaught to land the more telling blows.
As for Floyd, Cotto is just too strong. Cotto also has good speed, as demonstrated in the Mosley fight.
The thing I like most about Cotto is that he has many different tools in which to beat you. Power in the left to the body, the ability to switch stance effectively, an awesome jab, good movement, great stamina and he just keeps coming. I'm a massive Hatton fan, but at Welter I'd never put him in with Cotto because I think his skills would be bettered.
I've been saying it for a while now, but he'll be P4P #1 someday in the not too distant future.

Re: Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
I really cannot choose either if I'm honest.IF push comes to shove,I'd vote Cotto Mayweather because I think Miguel has a great chance of beating Floyd and because it could very well be Floyd's last fight. In comparison, even if Manny beats JMM,he has Juan Diaz,Guzman,Valero still to fight.

Fair enough. Still think your going too far saying Cotto is unbeatable. But u have your reasons.

Fair play. It's just opinion though. I'm yet to be proved wrong on Cotto. I've said for years now I think he'd be exceptional. However, my above comments can only be proved right when Cotto gets his fights. We'll see.

Re: Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
EASILY Mayweather-Cotto.
We don't know how good/great/amazing or rubbish that fight could turn out.
Pac-Marquez seen it. We have a very good idea of what to expect. It would have to live up to expectation and like MANY a rematch could be a letdown.
I'd much rather venture into the unknown. 8)

Re: Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
I voted for Pacquiao Vs. Marquez II. The chance of this fight being great is fading fast. Marquez is on a slippery slope. Cotto and Mayweather can wait if you ask me.

Re: Poll: Which fight would you rather see in '08?
Cotto vs Mayweather was my pick i would'nt mind seeing David Haye vs Wladmir Klitschko
