Looks like Pacquiao is going to fight David Diaz in March-thoughts?

According to the Philippine Inquirer, Manny Pacquiao is now negotiating with WBC lightweight titlist David Diaz. The Inquirer also states that Juan Manuel Marquez and Juan Diaz have been dropped as possible opponents. Most likely, this has much to do with Pacquiao’s demands in purse percentage. Manny has not been shy to make his demands public and was admittedly very unhappy with his cut vs. Juan Manuel Marquez, even though he still received the majority. Beating David Diaz would give Pacquiao a title belt in yet another weight class. This would not be such an easy task however, as Diaz is clearly the bigger man and just defeated Eric Morales via unanimous decision.

Only because of 3 dodgy judges did Diaz beat Morales. Otherwise he got outboxed and knocked on his ass by a guy many, including myself, considered shot.

I think Diaz Robbed Morales and shouldnt hold i title, I think pac Should fight Marquez and by skipping him to fight someone who imo doesnt deserve to be champion is even worse, Its no challenge for pac and the first time in his career if he takes this fight i will genuinely show disrespect for him

I've been a pretty strong supporter of Manny's right to be a top p4p fighter, mostly on the strength of his opposition. I'm pretty upset he's dodging JMM like this - that drops his stock considerably, IMO.

Fight Marquez, and he gets a couple of in between fights as he adjusts to LW. Otherwise, he's just taking the easy way out.

To be honest I think this will be a great fight. Whether you rate Diaz or not it's still a fact that he is the bigger man, has a world title and win over Morales and is an all action come forward fighter.

Maybe the rumours about Manny struggling at the weight are true and if so why not move up?

People moaning about him going for an easy champ are missing the point. It will still be Manny's first ever fight at lightweight and he's fighting a world champ. That's NOT an easy fight guys. Look at how Hatton struggled against Collazo.

Even Floyd almost lost to Castillo when he went straight for a title shot in his first fight at lightweight, why would Manny be crazy enough to try and fight Juan diaz right off the bat. Let him get used to the weight first then go for the big mega fight with Diaz.

As for him dodging Marquez and Guzman I don't see it that way.

He's moving up as he thinks he will feel more comfortable at a higher weight. If Marquez or Guzman want to fight him let them move up as well.

I can practically guarantee that Guzman would move up to lightwieght to fight Pacquiao.

If Marquez decides to remain at 130 it's up to him.

I think Marquez is a bad matchup for Manny and he knows it. His logic is probably that by moving up Marquez will either have to move up with him to fight him after he's become a world champ at the weight and can command more money or else not fight him at all.

As long as he's still in entertaining fights I'm not too bothered about whether he fights Marquez again or not.

Just to clarify as well, on this very forum after the Diaz-Morales fight, 2 people had the fight a draw, and everyone else said Morales won. I checked numerous fight reports, and I couldn't find any examples other than that of the 3 judges sat ringside who actually thought Diaz won that fight. It's a real shame, because nobody really gave Erik a prayer.

im dissappointed in pacquaio to be honest. david diaz ?!?!? thats most likely a easy win for pacquaio. i want to see him fight more super feathers eg. marquez rematch, guzman etc before moving up.

i think the whole reason pac is choosing to fight david diaz first is because he needs to feel out fighting at lightweight. there's no bigger mistake than figuring out that lightweight is a bad weight for you when you're fighting the absolute best in the division. that would be a devastating loss.

david diaz is a "feeler" fight to see if he could handle the being a lightweight, but at the same time fighting someone who is somewhat a name.

i was all for Pacquiao in moving up to lightweight and fighting a lesser opponent to test the waters. BUT I definitely was not for him moving up in weight before fighting Juan Manuel Marquez. I thought Pacquiao would move up to face Diaz instead of fighting Marquez. I don't want to say Manny's ducking Marquez but something is definitely up. Once GBP & Top rank sorted things out I thought this fight was on its way. If Pacquiao is having trouble making weight I'm sure Marquez would meet him at 135. For those who want to see Pacquaio vs Marquez 2, let us just wait. It will happen sometime in 2008 but it may not be in March. No one is ducking another fighter here. Diaz, Marquez,Guzman, Valero, etc want Pacquaio. Pacquaio wants Marquez and Diaz subject to conditions. Marquez wants to play hard so he might have lost the chance here..... but nothing has been decided yet.

Am sure, Marquez will have his chance this year against Pacquaio.

Like almost everybody, Marquez is number 1 in my wish list of Pacquaio's next opponent.

Oscar even said at the Pac-Barrera post fight that if Pac likes beating Mexicans, he has another with the initials JMM. Arum dodged answering that one then, which suggested to me something was up. I like Pac, but I can't see any reason why this fight can't be made. Marquez is the one making noise.

PAcquaio was ready to fight MArquez.In fact, he tried to negotiate with MArquez FIRST. According to PAcquaio's camp, Marquez had been asking too much before.That's why they decided to negotiate with Diaz. Now that PAcquaio seems to be getting well with Diaz' camp, Marquez is making a noise.

People are now making conclusions that Pacquaio is ducking Marquez. Let's be fair here.Like what I am saying again and again, I want it to be Pacquaio vs. Marquez 2 this coming March but if it will not happen, it can be done within this year. If Pac gets paid $3m to fight Barrera, and Barrera gets paid the same...Marquez...the guy that drew with Pacquiao and beat Barrera in Barrera's fight before Pac deserves to be paid a minimum of $3m. I'm sorry, but HBO would be willing to put the cash up for a fight most fans demand should happen. They'd make alot of money from PPV buys.

I'm not saying the fight is NOT going to happen but Manny is certainly doing EVERYTHING he can to delay the fight. For what reason?Who knows?To see JMM grow older?To see JMM have to fight Guzman and possibly lose?

He wants the majority of the purse,he got it.He wants the most money from his next fight,no fight is bigger than the JMM fight.He wants the fight at 135,JMM said yes. What more does he want?¬Doesn't matter how you look at it,Manny is relucant to take this fight.

Nobody here has made a point of saying Marquez will win the fight. I'm not posting here saying "Marquez will kick the shit out of Pacquiao." It's not about that. It's his stalling on making this fight. Pacquiao hasn't had a meaningful fight in 2007, we're all asking for one in 2008. It seems the only thing holding up this fight is Manny. In all of this thread, you've failed to argue that Pac wants this fight.

I wish I could CC you more often.I have not written JMM will kick Manny's ass either,I just want to see the fight. I acknowledge Manny is the favourite but I'll be rotting for JMM and like you said,I want to see Manny in a meaningful,2007 has been poor for him imo. And totally spot on,I've not seen 1 well thought out argument,point or besides indicating that Manny wants to fight JMM.

yea the excess post after post of trying to prove pac is ducking jmm isn't any indication of silly fans still despret to find a con in pacs credential. cc Gamo & there it is. Whats the problem? Make the fight. I thought Juarez & Barrera was a lead up Marquez/ Pacquiao 2, everything was falling into place. Now all Manny needs to do is agree to fight!

pac will be the one to ultimately decide between marquez and diaz and i wouldn't diss him until the decision is made. we should all just wait. i still think it will be marquez.
