Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
It's been announced that Clottey will face unbeaten top contender Alvarez in a Eliminator fight to see who get's a shot at Kermit Cintron and his title. The Clottey-Alvarez fight is set for Dec. 20th and lucky us it's gonna be shown on the Versus channel. ;)
This is a HUGE step up in class for Alvarez I mean huge. But to be honest I see this as a "It's now or never" fight for Alvarez I mean hes 30 and is
19-0 in todays day fighters are in their 20's and have already 20 something fights.
For Clottey he better be ready Alvarez is a southpaw and moves well likes to use the ring and counter. Clottey needs to stay busy and throw, throw, throw punches and keep Alvarez on defense.
Thoughts?

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvares Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
Good news i like Clottey this is real good chance for him to get back into the mix of the top Welterweight's i think he takes Alvares by tough decision and he beats Cintron by TKO in 9 Clottey has always impressed me he has been unlucky like his injury in Margarito fight and his DQ loss to Baldomir when he was mile ahead on the scorecards but anyway like i said earlier this is an excellent chance for Clottey and im glad he is getting this chance he deserves it.

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
I've seen Clottey only vs Magarito and Corrales, but he did look really good...
Ran out of breath at the end of the Corrales fight...hope he gets this under control...
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
Cool stuff, thanks for the heads up CMM. I like Clottey alot and hope he gets this guy gone in impressive fashion; and then can go and run Cintron off, unless Williams does it 1st. On a sidenote, I wouldn't mind seeing Clottey/Berto in the near future.
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
I think this may be to big a step up for Alvarez as Clottey has proved he's a top guy. Should be a good fight none the less though...
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
I go with Alvarez in this fight. Clottey is a good fighter. But I'm always cautious with fighters would made there name based on fights they lost.
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
Clottey is on the cusp of great things. He is as durable as there is and I think he takes this opportunity and runs to the goal with it.

thats why you are a Casamayor fan then. He makes his living winning fights that Stevie Wonder could judge him loseing but yet he still wins.
Amazing kinda like a turd that just wont go down the toilet when flushed

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
I dont see Alvarez cracking Clottey's defense. Clottey may take him out late because Alvarez didnt have the best stamina either and got kind of sloppy towards the end in his last fight. Its a 12 rounder so I'm taking Clottey.

Cmon man injury is one thing getting bitched slap and pushed back allnite by a ham and egger is another thing.
Joel The "Cat" Casamayor. Homeboy got  9 lives
Feck it though a win is a win, I wanted to take a swipe at joel last week but I forgot. he deserves to get his ballz broken after that Saturday

I agree that Clottey did somewhat run out of breath but you gotta remember he still threw punches even when he's tired he still keeps throwing. So that for him is alway a plus.

I don't know just yet, I mean from what I've seen of Alvarez he looks good and a southpaw will almost always cause you some trouble early on.

I agree here I just dont see how Alvarez can crack it. Alvarez is best bet is to box around and play the hit and not get hit game.

I tend to agree with you on that statement but it does depend on how they lost. 1st he was dq'd when way ahead on the cards & he was very competitive with Margarito up until his injury.

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
I really enjoy Clottey. Good action packed match this !

Casamayor had a year off. He was bound to be rusty. Especially at his age. The win might of been a small gift, but considering he's been robbed of 4 wins in his career I see nothing wrong with it. Keep in mind Casamayor has been hurt, he's been dropped but he's never token a beating in his career like Lacy took in the UK

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
If Alvarez boxes,he wins this imo.I don't think Clottey would be able to handle lateral movement,he doesn't jab,is pretty stationary and gasses often if not in the majority of his fights. If Alvarez stands and fights,he'll lose. Either way,it should be a fine fight.Shame though,Collazo was supposed to be fighting Clottey for this eliminator, but he and his camp didn't turn up at the purse bid i.e. ducked Clottey.

Joshua Clottey fighting Shamone Alvarez this Thursday.
Okay people who do you think will win.
This is an IBF eliminator and Alvarez is a NABO champ.
Can see Clottey winning this on points.
-
Re: Joshua Clottey fighting Shamone Alvarez this Thursday.
Clottey by tough but clear cut UD.
-
Re: Joshua Clottey fighting Shamone Alvarez this Thursday.
I'm really looking forward to this fight. If Alvarez uses his southpaw stance, jab and lateral movement to his advantage,he wins. If he stands and trades,Clottey, via points.

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
This fights coming up this Thursday, 20th what are your predictions?

Looks like Kermit Cintron wont have his little IBF belt very long regardless.
But, I am going with Clotey UD over Shamone Alvarez. It's a no brainer.
Poor Kermit :(
Oh SNAP! I just read that Quintana is fighting Williams. This should be a good little scrap. I hope Quintana does better than I think he will do. (I doubt it but I hope so)
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
Anyway to see this in the UK(OR MORE SPECIFICALLY IRELAND)?
I go with Clottey on points...wont be an easy fight but it will be clear cut.
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
Clottey is a big strong durable Welter with decent handspeed, I look for him to get a UD. I like Clottey and definetly have him as the dark horse of the Welter division

That Kermit got away with it... huh!

Not that I know of but if something comes up I'm sure someone will post it.

Right on JT, Clotteys performed well one thing I noticed while watching his fight again against Chico was the 'X' Factor to try and finish Chico.
I mean we know Chico didn't have the best chin around and was fighting above his weight class, I would have thought Clottey would stop him.
Anyway still I think he's gonna edge out Alvarez.
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
I don't think Clottey really has the mindset to ever be a very good to great fighter but he's pretty solid. El Gamo's right in that he's a guy who doesn't look like he'd be his best against lateral movement but I haven't seen enough of Alvarez to pick him.
-

If I am not mistaken Clottey had just gotten over walking pnemonia when he fought Corrales and fought anyway...So you could attribute it the illness :-\
IMO Clottey has a title in his future...He has never really been beaten...In the Margarito fight he broke his hand I believe ( or fractured it)....was winning until that point in the fight...his only other loss was a dq to Big Head Baldomir.....
Clottey takes a hell of a punch and can box rather well....IMO he has a good chance of beating Cintron...
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
I reckon Clottey would batter Cintron.

Wow.. Im pretty suprised at that. Collazo has been inactive for quite a while now, i thought his camp would be itching for any fight.
I agree with your comments about movement and lack of jab. Plus Clottey is guilt of being a bit punchmatic. However i havent seen Shamone Alvarez but i doubt he has the craft to quell Clotteys assults.
Fan boy talk, of course :)

Collazo I believe is fighting on the undercard of Jones/Trinidad. Fighting a guy named Linares{brother of Jorge??}.
I'm going with ud win for Clottey on this as well.
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
Its Jorge's brother, not as good though.
Fuck it, I'll pick Alvarez. I just saw one of his fights, he's not that great but he moves a lot and Clottey's not very mentally tough, and more importantly flatfooted as all hell.
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
If Joshua starts with pressure early, he will get a late k.o. Alvarez's stamina runs out around round 8-9 if this is 12 Clottey wins definately. Alvarez has more of a chance IMO if this is a 10 rounder. Alvarez gets some credit in my book for taking this fight, but this is too big a step up after a lackluster outing against Germaine Sanders. The only thing he's got going for him in this fight is his southpaw style, which Clottey hasnt faced much.
