For those who think Floyd will win...
For those who think Floyd will win the fight either by a small, OR, large margin... and having taken into the account Ricky Hatton's performances up until now,,,,
How much extra as far as Percentage wise, would Hatton need to give/put in/show in this fight to run with Floyd and stand a good chance of winning...
So imagining Hatton at the best we've seen him so far, how much more would he have to show in this fight to win it? If you can picture the fight with him winning, what would he really have to do and put into the fight to win it? If he was capable of improving to that point of beating Floyd..
This is a purely hypethetical question for those who don't think Ricky has the real world skills at this point to beat Floyd.. But can attempt to imagine him winning and what it would take..
If anyone argues that he doesn't stand a chance no matter what he does, they probably should look up the word hypethetical... ;D

Re: For those who think Floyd will win...
Tbh, factoring in Floyd clenliness and selection of shots, his defense and movement, his underestimated power and slightly overrated speed; well Ricky needs to put in the equivalent effort that he put in the Tszyu fight and Castillo fight combined!
In reality Ricky needs to keep the pace so hot that he will be viewed as going for the Ko. I don't think the mauling marauding hatton we saw against Tszyu will be as effective against Floyd as 1, Floyds preparing for that and two Floyd's movement will mean he will avoid clinches like the plauge.
I feel Ricky should utilise a strategy more similar to that used against Pep or Philips.
Crisper punches, more punches. Ricky is famed for his volume punching, but in reality he hasn't punched in volume for almost 5 fights now...He has to this time.
Re: For those who think Floyd will win...
Tszyu did not take a single sideways step the whole night. He went straight back and Hatton just came forward. That was the easiest possible scenario for Hatton.
By contrast, Floyd moves laterally. And changes direction Here are examples:

Re: For those who think Floyd will win...
^^^^ I have a feeling Floyd won't be quite as effective with his sidways movements as the above fight.. Great example vids by the way. ;)
You watch that fight though, and you see Oscar bobbing on the outside weighing up his entry, then dive in while Floyd turns him around.. Then again he weighs his entry up for 5 or 6 seconds , maybe jabbing, and comes in blazing again.. Floyd waits for that and is ready, as soon as Oscars head starts coming forward Floyd is already a step sideways and countering,, or moving backwards and circling around to take the power of the attack... Ricky is just going to be coming forward the whole time assuming he can stand up to what Floyd throws at him while he's coming forward.... If Ricky can take an absolute beating and stand to him like Castillo did against Floyd, you have to remember how close Floyd vs Castillo was... I myself find it easy to come up with how Floyd can dominate,,, but when you put yourself to thinking what Ricky would truly have to do to win, it's not completley beyond reality if the night goes a certain way..
Re: For those who think Floyd will win...
Basically, if Floyd does what Leonard did against Duran he may well be screwed.
Will Floyd do that? Not sure, can't wait to find out!
Re: For those who think Floyd will win...
good examples DIOS DOMINICANO have a cool click on me m8. This is exactly why Hatton has very little chance against Floyd because of Mayweathers movement and speed which wont allow Hatton to get set and put something behind is punches. His lack of a decent jab really screws him over because he will find it hard to get close to Floyd and back him up without him just skipping away.
Re: For those who think Floyd will win...
I can't stand PBF, but he is an amazing at what he does. I think Hatton's in for a difficult fight, at best. With that said, I still give Ricky a better chance than a lot of people - the boxer doesn't always win the boxer vs. fighter matchup...
Re: For those who think Floyd will win...
Ricky Hatton would have to improve ALOT and show things I have not seen from him(I've only seen about10-12 fights). He needs a jab, good head movement, those 2 would be hugely advantageous. He needs to show he can last a HIGH pace without gassing(in his 1 fight v Luis Collazo at 147,I thought he was gassed, could have been poor conditioning).
He needs to be able to cut off the ring(although I have a feeling he'll end up following Floyd around) and he needs make angles with his footwork,1 thing he should be good at. When Floyd is doing his shoulder roll,Hatton needs to manuever in order to land the punches. If he's stationary,Floyd will see eveyr punch and roll with it.So yea,he needs to do alot imo.
I can't put a percentage on it!

:coolclick: Good post. To underestimate a fighter is either utter stupidity...or sheer brilliance...the latter, that's coming from Floyd's point of view, I'm sure.
Personally...I say that any man can be beaten to the punch on any given Sunday Saturday...so to speak.
Hatton has the abilities to beat Floyd...but I truthfully just don't see it happening...not based on previous performances...if that's what wer'e basing this on.
If wev'e see the best of Hatton...provided that the best Hatton mugged the fuck outta Kostya all night long...that Hatton aint gonna beat Floyd...I just couldn't imagine it...that being said...I stick by what I said for every fighter in every fight I watch.
Often I pick against my favorites...often they surprise me...lately...all of them have.
This time I won't be picking against my favorite...honestly...I don't believe that I have ever picked against Floyd.
If Hatton were to pull it out of his ass...much props to Hatton because like it or not...like Floyd or not...if Hatton beats him...he just beat the best fighter P4P in the world...& any fighter out there will tell you that.
Re: For those who think Floyd will win...
I don't really see how Hatton can win. He can throw 100 + punches all he wants but all thats going to happen, is that he is going to get picked apart Hatton can't outbox Mayweather, he can't match him for speed. But one thing i will give Hatton is that he uses angles well on the inside whenever he plants his feet he can hit you from any angle and he is a monster of a man on the inside but like i just said *Inside* all the things Hatton does best are on the inside and all the things Mayweather does best are on the outside, and Mayweather will be keeping this fight mostly in the middle of the ring and using his jab. I'll tell you what now if Mayweather uses his jab to good effect like he has done in the past it will be almost impossible for Hatton to win the fight because he won't be able to counter the jab, because Mayweather doesn't throw a lazy jab he throws nice snappy, fast jab thats impossible to counter.
Re: For those who think Floyd will win...
In this fight the I don't think Hatton can do enough if Mayweather comes at his top game because he is better. So I believe it has more to do with what Mayweather shows up than what Hatton shows up. The only person that can beat Mayweather is himself.

I respect the people who think Hatton is going to win.
But they all say that Hatton will be putting in all this bodywork downstairs. Fine. My question is: what will one of the best counterpunchers in the game be doing with his hands while Hatton throws those bodyshots??

My guess would be uppercuts like he did with a similar opponent to Hatton who went to the body plus throwing 100 punches in nearly every round aka Jesus Chavez.

CC That was the exact sort of post I was thinking when I thought of the thread... I agree and I think most would, Hatton is going to have to do the best of him that we've seen, plus more, plus a fair bit more.. He'll have to surprise everyone... Floyd will also have to be off his game.. As much as that is not possible, Hatton needs to maybe catch him with something early that hurts him like a Castillo body shot. Floyd must be off his game, Hatton must be ONNNN... He needs to be twice as fresh by round 12 than when he starts in round 1.. He needs to fight like every round is the 12 round and he needs a knockout for victory...
The great thing is you know Hatton is a guy that is going to try to find whatever it takes to give it to Floyd no matter how far he falls short... I just hope even in a loss he shows that he was able to stand up to Floyds style and skills and strengths and show signs of a boxer that can keep up with anyone... That's all I hope for from the fight in this case and would be happy with that.
Re: For those who think Floyd will win...
While everyone agrees that Hatton's greatest effort was beating Tszyu remember that Tszyu was a lot easier to hit than PBF will be. PBF is probably the best defensive fighter any of us have ever seen so he will be prepared for whatever plan Hatton has for him. Hatton will give him a lot of grief in this fight because he is good enough to do it, the Fatboy is very good and i will be very surprised if PBF wins this easily.
I go for a PBF UD but i warn all PBF fans get ready for the fight of his life.
Re: For those who think Floyd will win...
While looking over some older hatton fights and clips I've noticed an exciting trend...Many of the men who backed away from him were stopped as a result of the leaping Left hook to the skull from Hatton.
Now while Oscar is statistically the stronger man and he landed this punch with no effect, i can't help but wonder of the effect on Floyd from Ricky's hook if he consistently lands in the late rounds.
Re: For those who think Floyd will win...
lol good luck to Hatton on that one fighters have struggle to consistently land a jab on floyd never mine a leaping hook. This fight has the potential to be something special but i get the feeling that Mayweather may just potshot from the outside all night long. I think the ref is definatly key to how the fight plans out because if holding is allowed then Hatton can make the fight very uncomfotable

There is always the chance Floyd goes a little more toe to toe than everyone expects.... Against Castillo he traded a lot of punches where both fighters looked as committed to duking it out as the other... Floyd can dance around the ring and potshot fighters who are natural 'boxers' trying to work in with double or triple jab, and outbox Floyd. Floyd makes 'boxers' look like amatuers. If Floyd catches him with a few very very good punches when Ricky comes in and Ricky reserves himself to trying to jab from the outside and not look like his usual self, then I agree Floyd will dominate by keeping him at arms length... But I don't think it's going to be that straight forward... Ricky's forward persistance will see a lot more punches traded in this fight than anyone thinks....
Anyone who thinks it will be Ricky chasing Floyd around the ring but not being able to touch him, And Floyd will be staying back and never engaging will be sadly mistaken...
i'll bet a big bunch of CC's right now that their will me a lot more confrontation than most people expect!!!
That's a challenge boys!!
