I thought Vargas would win, but Mayorga won that fight by at least 5 rounds. The judges were smoking crack as usual. Vargas took off way to many rounds. He looked tired after the 5th round. It was still a great fight though. Really good. i didn't think it was close but it was still a barn burner. Great job by both fighters.
no knockdown in 11th rd, this fight would of ended in a draw, if the 12 round was fought the same!
Vargas was atleast behind 2 rounds or 1 round going into the 11th he lost that round by being knocked down obvisiously which makes it 10-8 round plus he lost the 12th round and i had Mayorga winning by 4 rounds if you score the fight correctly without biased scoring it was impossible for Vargas to win or earn a draw so how that judge had it 113-113 escapes me.
Overall great fight even better than i expected one of the fights of the year Mayorga was actually backing away from Vargas and outboxing him in some rounds which was surprising because i thought Vargas would be the one doing that not Mayorga i think Mayorga still has alot left in the tank.
Had to check my eye sight when Mayorga was actually "boxing" Vargas for a couple of rounds.
Im just happy to finally get a pick right.Imo this was a very good fight but not Great.
After its all said Mayorga did look really good after 18 month layoff, off a KO defeat as well.Vargas needs to hang them up and keep them there...all balls fighter who should move on with pride intact.
Can Mayorga really make noise At Middle weight?Chin solid, stamina brought him12 (suprised me) and actually mixed up awkward power shots well.
I personnaly think he has a hard time all things considered no doubt but It will be fun to watch.
i think one of the judges scored the 11th rd 10-9, becuase vargas actually would have won that round if it wasnt for the knockdown
okok....i would have to admit it wasnt GREAt, but it was great..lol
action-packed, knockdowns
It was an entertaining fight but really not a fight of the year contender. It could have been though.Quote:

Mayorga did look quite good and I thought he did well considering it was way outside what he should be fighting at. It must be remembered that Vargas hasnt been at his best for a good while now and this time out lacked stamina and was sporting some kind of rubber ring around his belly. Its no surprise that Mayorga won this really. He possibly has something left but its not possible to judge that fully against this incarnation of Vargas. I want to see Mayorga back at 154 and challenging for a belt. He wont go to 147 at this stage in his career.
Thats right son! Look out Vernon Forrest and/or Cory Spinks, Mayorga is comin for your belts boys!!!!!Quote:

It was a great fight but then again it always seems to be a better fight when they hate each other like those two do.
I loved the fight. I think Mayorga would have KO'ed him had he managed to sustain the pressure. Glad Mayorga won. Hope he and Forrest fight again to keep 154 alive!
Mayorga was pretty controlled and that was impressive. He would do well at 154.Quote:

Was vargas out of balance when he was caught or was he really stunned. his legs look like they suffled right at the point he sticks his chin up and mayorga catches it with a right hook/overhand. Vargas then rolls around the canvas, both of his legs even goes up as if he was caught with a huge jumping punch from mayorga.
Ballsy and fun but Vargas made Mayorga look better than he was/is ,mistakes turning square and going down, unfit, slow reactions made the winner look better to some than he really is.
vargas said that the first knockdown was a slip, but i think he stumbled from a punch, mayorga should fight verron forestQuote:

I have an issue with people using the word 'Great', I just feel people throw that word around like nothing.....Quote:

Not sure what you view a fight as being great but IMO it was far from being great.
Entertaining yes, great no.Quote:

Mayorga won a big fight finally, thats all I care about. And he learned how to box a little finally too, making him more dangerous.
I agree. I thought it was a good fight but not great. Vargas was pretty slow throughout the fight and shuffled about really. Reminded me a bit of 'asthma man' shannon briggs and the way he shuffles around the ring. Mayorga surprised me with his effort over the 12 rounds but vargas didn't make him work too hard. I actually thought the Cintron v Feliciano fight was better. Oh and yes I thought vargas was going to win, but not for any particular reason i thought his boxing skills would be the difference but couldn't really split them.Quote:

And they both threw some huge punches, with Mayorga deservedly taking it in the end.
it was a damn satisfying fight. I had a cigarette afterwards. Almost as good as sex.
