Will Jermain Taylor Retire If He Loses To Pavlik Again ??
-
Re: Will Jermain Taylor Retire If He Loses To Pavlik Again ??
No. He's too young. But i really don't see where he can win if he doesn't beat Pavlik in the rematch. He can't do anything at 168, Kessler and Calzaghe would both beat him. Maybe he should fight Lacy
-
Re: Will Jermain Taylor Retire If He Loses To Pavlik Again ??
I can't see him retiring personally I feel he will move up to sup-mid and at least he can say he was once the holder of the 4 belts plus RING belt.
-
Re: Will Jermain Taylor Retire If He Loses To Pavlik Again ??
I agree guys but i just don't see what he can do if he loses to Pavlik again ?? i mean what top guys can he beat at Supermiddleweight ?? even at Middleweight Abraham and Sturm won't come to USA so those match ups won't happen so what else ??

As he's never fought at sup-mid it's hard to say who he can beat, If he does get beat by Pavlik again which IMO he will I feel he should fight a journeyman at sup-mid then go for someone like Miranda, Pascal, Green, Andrade, winner of Lacy-Manfredo, Berrio etc who are all decent names.

I disagree Taylor should give Pavlik a rematch if Taylor wins thats the least he could do considering Pavlik is giving him one and plus the trilogy would be huge.

Re: Will Jermain Taylor Retire If He Loses To Pavlik Again ??
He had sucess at middlweight mostly because of his size and stregnth. At super middleweight he will look very average and not do so well imo.

Re: Will Jermain Taylor Retire If He Loses To Pavlik Again ??
I have the impression that Taylor's confidence isn't on sturdy ground. Not from the Pavlik fight either, although I'm sure that didnt help.
He is always so tense in these big fights and wastes so much energy. That is all mental..and I have seen it ever since I first watched Taylor in the first Hopkins fight. Granted bhop is pretty much always calm and in control, but against guys like Ouma and Spinks Taylor should have appeared to be the "alpha male" in the ring...and he didn't.
I think he is a likable person, and I am glad to see he has been successful. He has good physical attributes , but I don't think he has or ever will have the true mentality of a champion.
So I think if Pavlik knocks Taylor out again, that will be the last we will see of him. But if it is a decision loss I think Taylor will continue to fight...because financially it would make sense and boxing is his livelihood..but I would not expect him to make any big things happen.

Well his confidence most likely isn't on sturdy groud, ESPECIALLY because of the Pavlik fight. That was the only time he had been put and kept down, so even though his confidence in himself was on a thin wire before Pavlik, I'd bet he got knocked right off that wire after the affair with Kelly. Either way, like ICE says, I don't really see what he can do if he loses again to Pavlik. I guess if he moves up he can make some great fights with Miranda and Kessler, and maybe Green or Andrade. But eventually Pavlik will move up and beat him silly again{assuming Pavlik beats him at 166}. Gatekeeper? Maybe... I don't see JT accepting a gatekeeper role, but if he can't stay at 160 and successfully reclaim his belt, then he has to shine at 168. I don't want to see him retire because I have always liked him, and really want to see him have a go with Miranda at least.
-
Re: Will Jermain Taylor Retire If He Loses To Pavlik Again ??
What kind of fucking question is that?!?!?!
JT has a lot to prove and can fight on up to 175 I am certain!
-
Re: Will Jermain Taylor Retire If He Loses To Pavlik Again ??
I don't thinK Taylor would retire, but I could easily see Taylor's career going downhill pretty fast if he loses again to Pavlik.
Taylor's probably going to move up to 168, and he doesn't figure to be the type of guy who can effectively move up in weight. Taylor's biggest strength has always been that he's been bigger stronger and longer than his opponents at 160. As he moves up, the size advantage won't be the same anymore, since he'll be fighting bigger guys. And Taylor hasn't shown the skills to outbox a bigger stronger opponent.

Re: Will Jermain Taylor Retire If He Loses To Pavlik Again ??
If Taylor get's knocked the phuk out again, he just might have to think about retiring.

That fight wasn't as one sided as people are making it out to be....what if it ended in the 2nd round when Pavlik was hurt....everyone would have said "DAMN JT IS A BAD MOFO!"
He can beat Pavlik if he has his mind right.
I am begining to think that having Manny as his trainer put too much pressure on him to succede...when you have trained the best and you pick up a young guy like Taylor and tell him he's the next Tommy Hearns that's a lot of pressure.
Jermain seems like he's the kind of guy who works best when he's relaxed and he needs to find a trainer that gets him there

Re: Will Jermain Taylor Retire If He Loses To Pavlik Again ??
I think many of you are underestimating how much Taylor still offers. He has the ability that 99% of fighters dream of having.
Even if he loses to Pavlik again, he will still have a future in the sport, can win another alphabet title and make good paydays. He may even outlast Pavlik in the sport due to Pavlik's willingness to trade blows every fight.
Pavlik is a wrecking machine, but with each passing fight, he is also more vulnerable. Remember he took a licking himself in his last fight. If any current Middleweight can beat him in his next fight, it is Taylor.

But thats the thing though he can't win another belt at Middleweight because Sturm and Abraham won't be willing to come to USA and Supermiddleweight champs like Bute even though he only just won the belt is very skilled and Mundine is also very skilled it will be hard for Taylor to win a belt should he lose to Pavlik in the rematch.

.....so instead of trying he should just give up?
Great moral to the story ICB, don't try because you might fail....it makes me want to wake up in the morning ;D

Re: Will Jermain Taylor Retire If He Loses To Pavlik Again ??
If he gets KTFO,he may retire or just fight in LITTLE ROCK for a while. He already said interviews a while ago, that he did not intend to carry on for a long time.A KO loss may add to that, and personally,I think he's lost his drive. He's made his $$$.Been unified champ and beaten 2 HOF.
-
Re: Will Jermain Taylor Retire If He Loses To Pavlik Again ??
i doubt it. i think he would just move up to super middleweight and fight there

opened it up and figured I'd find an article or a quote from Taylor. Simple as that ;)

I think Pavlik will beat JT easier this fight than the last... that being said who knows how good Pavlik is? he might be a top 5 P4p, and we just dont know it yet...
And i think that JT is still probably a top 10-12 P4P regardless if he does get KO'd again...
This is to ICE: i think JT would go to europe, take a pay cut, and KO sturm or abraham relatively easy, and i am not taking them lightly... but I think JT would gladly go overseas to fight for a title as a challenger..
but he will go to SMW 168 and JT will instantly be the top 2/3 fighters in the division and might be the top fighter if calzaghe changes divisions...
lets remember that JT fought at B-hops and winkys level for 3 fights and fought pavlik even better and still got ko'd. pavlik's power is what is his kriptonite, and no one at 160 or 168 has pavlik power, JT at his best could beat ANYONE from 160-175...
i think JT will be just fine after he gets KO'd by pavlik again, although he might start running early if he gets caught, and if JT does beat pavlik and continues to improve i dont see JT losing for a long time...
dont forget ICE how close he came to KOing pavlik in the 2nd and getting back into the top 10 P4P

Actually, I don't see whay a loss in the rematch would end his career. He would just be another guy who found somebody that he can't beat. Heck, Shane lost to 2 different guys twice, and Oscar lost to Shane twice.
Closer to home, Taylor beat Hopkins twice, and BHop went on to do good work after that. That's a good example for him. Jermain can stay at 160 , if he can make the weight, and fight the up-n-comers...or he can go to 168 for Green, Calzaghe, etc.
Wouldn't you carve out an hour for Taylor-Kessler?
A taylor-Winky rematch should be attractive to BOTH guys right now.

I know I'd carve out a few hours for Taylor at 168: Kessler, Miranda, Andrade, Pavlik again if he makes the move. Whether he can do it at 168 with those guys, which I think he can with the exception of a possible Pavlik fight at SMW, or Kess. I don't want to put words into ICE COLD'S mouth, but I think he may be asking what will Taylor do if he loses in the same fashion to Pavlik in the rematch as he lost the 1st go round; will he mentally be able to continue his career. You mentioned Hopkins and Mosley moving on after losses, but Taylor seems to be more mentally unstable than those 2 aformentioned fighters, and another severe loss like what he took from Pavlik may take JT mentally out of the game, seeing as how he'd never been ktfo or even put on the canvas before Pavlik came knocking. Guess time will tell, and he may redeem himself with Pavlik, though I think he'll lose.

Add in Bika, Codrington, etc, etc to the list of potentials. Jermain will have to re-invent himself as a more exciting fighter if he isn't going to win.
You can win boring. You can't lose boring. That makes you Zahir Raheem.

Re: Will Jermain Taylor Retire If He Loses To Pavlik Again ??
I will say this...a little bit back...I think after he beat Hopkins the 2nd time he was talking about how he'd accomplished his goal & that he was going to retire because there was no one else out there to fight...guess he forgot Pavlik? ;D

I remember that ;D
If he get's sparked out again by Pavlik or for that matter just looses period regardless of how it happens, I'm gonna say he gives it a go at Super Middle if his debut goes well there then I can see him making some fights there. After all the other up and comers will want to fight him as he holds reputable ground in the game.
I said this after the Winky fight that I just didn't see JT all there it's like his mind is else where and I just don't get the feeling the kids 100% fully committed to the sport. As Wack said when hes been interviewed it's like he was already talking about retiring after beating Hops twice. I will say this should JT retire without ever championing again and or making some kind of imprint in the sport I'm writting him off and listing him in the under achievers lists. Along side Bojado, Grant, Ayala, Ibeabuchi.

Re: Will Jermain Taylor Retire If He Loses To Pavlik Again ??
I dont see Taylor Beating Pavlik. Those type of knockouts can haunt a fighter
All brass for Next fight taking the rematch though.
I really dont see much he can change and something tells me His ego and urge to "rebound" with tempered aggresion will lead to a brutal ko loss and He'll do no better at 168 Imo.

Spicoli, just to clarify something here when you say "brutal ko loss" you mean more brutal then the 1st time around?
Or
Just brutal ko?

Make sure the Family is out of the room Brutal. After Climbing off the canvas on heart I see a bobble head effect on the ropes and then Splat!Think D.Wison In his last fight w/ E. Nawando(??).
That being said Pavlik needs to upgrade his defense .Having a feirce offense is on e thing but backseating your defense behind it will catch up to you Imo.

Yeh,He was border line Master Nate cambell Impressionist there but I think it was good it happenend.Dumd shit has a way of repeating itself only If u let It.
Alot look at offense mostly but Pavlik stands tall and is Buu-koo sold on his power
It will catch up to him but not against Taylor who will do his "Gumby" tied up on the ropes in corner.

Re: Will Jermain Taylor Retire If He Loses To Pavlik Again ??
Taylor has got all the tools physically but he hasn't got all the tools mentally he uses up too much nervous energy thats cost him to fade in the later stages of fights. He fought better than i expected in Pavlik fight but all this talk i've heard from him in the past about him retiring makes me think he would retire should get KO again which i believe he will.

Actually Pavlik's defense isn't that bad except for when he pulled silly faces when he got knocked down he actually blocked alot of Taylor's punches and was quite impressive in that department.

Actually Pavlik's defense isn't that bad except for when he pulled silly faces when he got knocked down he actually blocked alot of Taylor's punches and was quite impressive in that department.
Aside from the silly faces you were really impressed with Pavliks defense?
I gotta disagree there Pavlik pretty much is your typical offensive fighter who doesn't really concentrate too much on defense as far as waist movement, bobbing & weaving. I agree with Spicoli, Pavlik has lot's to pick up on in the defense dept.

One sure way he can contribute to his betterment in the defense dept. is to stop making Gumby faces at JT. That might help things ::**
It is a Macho thing with him. He gets stung and either sticks out his tongue or his chin. It is a bad habit that he really needs to get rid of. Hopefully the last fight was his wake up call!hehe
