Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista wins 12 UD, wants De Leon again!
He is fighting a mexican who is called Antonio Meza. Ive never heard of him but he has a pretty decent record of 23-3 so should be a good fight. Im glad hes back and he was so unlucky with the De Leon fight, i knew it should not have happend so early. But lets hope he can do well on the comeback because i do believe he can be a champion one day because people forget he is still only 21 and he has a hell of a lot to learn yet.
just read this and he wants another pop at De Leon claiming he has improved. Hes showing balls, but he would get KTFO if he fought him again!
-
Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista back in action on sunday!
Bautista better hope he doesn't get hit in the chin again
-
Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista back in action on sunday!
Yeah i hope Rey comes back strong. It will be a good fight to see if he has been effected mentally from being KTFO by Ponce.
-
Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista back in action on sunday!
check out meza's quality of opponents. if bautista doesn't win this one he has no business in hoping to win a world title in the future. this SHOULD be an easy fight for rey.

I agree. It should be. But when a fighter gets brutally knocked out like Bautista did, easy fights all of a sudden aren't so easy any more.
-
Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista back in action on sunday!
Exactly VD.
The fight really should have never been made with De Leon. It was bad news from the beginning, they should have seen that on the Mayweather - De La Hoya undercard.
Much too green, he was never going to win that fight. On top of that, he got knocked out and was pretty much shafted completely by the people around him including that ass of a mayor who didn't grant his town a new road.
Wish him all the best but he has a lot of work to do before he ever reaches that upper echelon again.
-
Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista back in action on sunday!
Hes only 21 though hes still a young man. He has absoutly ages to get fights in and gain that experience. The World title shot was rushed far too quick and I feel sorry for Rey B but he must move on now. He will show he has world title class if he gets up and moves on from that loss and shows that he wasnt up for it at that stage of his career. I do believe he still needs to learn more of the pro trade and there is no doubt in my mind he will be a champion one day.
-
Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista back in action on sunday!
I'd like to interrupt and say that at his age all of his fights SHOULD be relatively easy. I realise that he is immensely popular already and he demonstrates a good penchant for the fight game, but he is not a fighter like Tyson, Patterson or Vargas who cab be rushed along hoping to pick up a title as quick as possible.
He is a good fighter and one i have liked on the occasions I have seen him but his very appearence illustrates his youth and lack of physical maturity. The lay off since the De Leon fight may well have seen him mature out of the eye of the public, but i still feel a more careful approach will benefit Bautista in the long run. After the Ponce fight it became publicised that he debated whether or not quitting was the right option. I feel this indeed was indicative of his lack of maturity. However now that he is obviously back in the game, training and has a fight set i hope he can move on and fulfil all that potential.
-
Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista back in action on sunday!
Wonder if good chins can be developed through some training method. Probably not so Bautista has to develop good boxing skill, turning himself into a mean, slick fighter. With good power, which he already has, and good defense, who needs a solid rock chin. Easier said than done though...
-
Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista back in action on sunday!
Chin can slightly be improved through conditioning, strength training and maturing the ody. A typical example is Cotto actually.
-
Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista wins 12 UD wants De Leon again!
i told you he would win, read the improved post.

Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista wins 12 UD, wants De Leon again!
if history has told us anything. a lost for a filipino fighter means nothing, it has turn many filipino fighters into raging monsters.
Donaire when he lost also thought about quiting but came back and look what he did to the sports biggest prick.
pacman was knocked out twice and look what he has done for the sport.
Pancho never let a lost got in his way to being the greatest flyweight ever.

Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista wins 12 UD, wants De Leon again!
If Bautista fights De Leon again, he'll get knocked out again.

Totally agree...& honestly don't want to see that happen.

Rey, if anyone comes near you with a contract to fight Daniel Ponce De Leon RUN FAR AND RUN FAST!!

No, I won't run. I will wait for De Leon to get older, may be after 5 years. Then I will call for a fight with him and will knock him out in 10 seconds. That way, I can avenge my humiliating loss.hehehe.
Seriously, Boom Boom needs to improve his chin first and his style to really give De Leon a good fight.
-
Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista wins 12 UD, wants De Leon again!
Congrats to him, glad to see him on track again, and even more pleased to learn he won by UD, confirming he has no problem going 12 if necessary.
He's got youth on his side and therefore time, he can afford to wait while Ponce gets engaged in a few wars and his body tears up a little. Bautista should use this time to learn his trade and when the time comes (in Bautista's interest not too soon!) he may well be set to avenge his pasting.
-
Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista wins 12 UD, wants De Leon again!
In 4-5 years Bautista may be better technically, may be stronger etc but you can't teach someone to have a good chin. He has skills but his defence was non existent and even in the fight before the Ponce fight,he looked chinny. I heard he asked for a Ponce rematch,if he gets KTFO again,so soon,it'll be a LOOOOOOOONG road back!
-
Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista wins 12 UD, wants De Leon again!
Well at his age it's not unusual at all for chin to improve. Supplementary to that therer is a limited amount of training he can do. In my personal opinion the knockout loss in question may see him branded as chinny unnecessarily. He wasn't knocked out by a journeyman, he was knocked out by a psyched, prepared and extremely motivated Ponce de Leon, who has proven himself time and again as a big puncher.
So I feel Bautista may feel the same branding Iron Lewis felt after the McAll and Rahman losses.
I wish Bautista luck, he seems like a nice young guy and he can punch himself so perhaps that loss could be the best thing ever to happen to him. I still rate him a lot higher than fellow super bantam Bernard Dunne who suffered an identical fate around the same time.

Actually,it was his fight before the Ponce fight which lead to people calling him chinny. I can't remember the name of the fighter but he Bautista wobbled. I dont think it's over for Boom Boom,no way,but I do think he needs to come up slowly, bide him time.

Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista wins 12 UD, wants De Leon again!
What do you all expect from a 20 year old? to be the best and become the champion. Hes done a lot better than most 20 year olds at this stage in his career, the majority of them would no were near be on track for a world title shot like RB was. He will be a champion one day.

It was Sergio Medina fight. Which took place on the Mayweather-De La Hoya undercard. Bautista was hurt badly by Medina. He was actually out on his feet. But received a standing 8 count. Which helped him recover. With out the standing 8, I think Medina would of finished him

he busted up and nearly knocked out medina also before and after boom boom was stunned. rey wasn't standing he was actually holding on to the ropes while trying to duck punches on a croching stance. he wobbled across the ring but was not as close to getting knocked out as medina was once or times during the fight.
i told everyone before that fight goldenboy don't give a shyt about rey, they sent him out to two straight dangerous fighters. medina and ponce, at the age of 21 promoters that gave a damn would of gave rey easier oppenents til he mature into his prime. Not send him out to veteran world champions two straight in a row. I can't recall any 21 year olds fighting caliber fighters like that. jcc jr gets midgets or no hope bums, and rey gets starve pitbulls. just an example of protected fighter and an unleash one.

Maybe next time Bumtista won't open his mouth and ask for a title shot before he's ready. Rey wanted a title shot and Golden Boy accommodated him. I don't see how that's a not giving a shit about a fighter. Apparently he hasn't learned his lesson, cuz he's again asking for De Leon. Boy must really like doing the drunk walk.

The argentine Medina on May 5th wasn't it?
Yeah he was hurt, but tbh Medin a was an unknown quantity who turned out to be tough and awjkward so i wouldn't discredit Rey's chin entirely on that performance as he pulled out a win after going through adversity...
Note* Having posted iv just seen VD dealt with the same topic....my bad

exactly his a kid, would you give your son a gun to play with even if he begged you? hell no, you'll refuse til he has atleast mature. A promoter who gave a damn would of sat him down and told rey your young and your not ready for it. Most young fighters are guided that way, but goldenboy had nothing to lose. Both rey and ponce are signed with goldenboy. Thats why they let it happen, a win win situation for them.It would of been a lot different if rey was with top rank, no way would arum let rey get pummeled at that age. We already saw rey get stunned by medina and he barely got past him, then goldenboy lets him go on to ponce. Is that taking care of a young fighter? NOPE.

Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista wins 12 UD, wants De Leon again!
All right Boomboom, shut your mouth up and let uncle Penalosa take care of him. Penalosa has been calling de Leon out but where is he? The latest I've heard was that he has priced himself out by asking unreasonable amount, nearly a million. Hmmm, after what seeing what Gerry did to a bigger and stronger Jhonny boy, that ain't a bad idea at all. It's not a risk worth taking for de Leon. Now Gerry has no choice but to defend his title against a mandatory challenger, that is, if he want to keep the useless strap.
Just saw Boomboom's last fight. He's gotta long way to go. His tough opponent just ate everything he gave - and believe me, those were lots of pretty hard shots - and was still standing straight till the end. Boom2 needs to learn more to box, and Freddie the kamikaze coach isn't going to be the one who can teach him that. Maybe Donaire's dad can - just maybe.
-
Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista wins 12 UD, wants De Leon again!
i think he would last longer, prob 1 or 2 rounds longer...
de leon by ko in less than 4 rounds if they fought again
guy is in the the top 3 pound for pound hardest punchers in boxing
-
Re: Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista wins 12 UD, wants De Leon again!
Yeah,I think there is a bit of confusion here. Bautista ASKED for a title shot v Ponce. NO-ONE held a gun to his head and said, hey take the title shot or else. He knows he's young and he would have gotten a shot sooner or later. It was HIS choice and he paid the ultimate price.

Gerry has to defend v his mandatory first then he can fight who he wants. He wanted to fight Ponce in Phillipines,he needs to cough up the cash. Ponce is not stupid, going to someone's backyard for pettence! He's not JMM! ;D And Ponce is dam sure tougher than Gonzalez.

It is partly the WBO's fault for making him #1 contender. There again, I don't think Warren has a Super-Bantam fighter available, so they had to find someone to make their #1.

It's not a promoters job to sit a young fighter down and give him a gut check, or heartfelt words of advice.. That's for trainers, managers, other members of a fighters camp to worry about.. You think it is as simple as Bautista calling out Ponce and DLH making the fight even though noone in his camp thought he could win ??? ::** Obviously(though apparently not to you), Rey's camp backed him in his decision to take the fight. Meaning they almost certainly thought he could win. If they didn't think so, then that's a different issue to do with the people Bautista CHOOSES to have manage and train him. Either way, for you to say that Golden Boy is to blame here for not caring about Rey's career, that's utter crap. So what that they also had Ponce, you think it benefits Golden Boy to have Rey go and get KO'ed right after they got him?? What sense would it make for them to sign a talented young prospect with a potentially huge following, then throw him in with fights theye wanted him to lose? I mean that is what you were implying..... Even IF, you were somehow right, that Golden Boy hated Bautista, wanted to see him lose and tried to put him in over his head, they can't make the decision for him, or sign the contract. Not to mention the fact that he is now calling out Ponce again doesn't help your case... And as far as Sergio Medina, he wasn't exactly the veteran champion you're claiming he is. In fact he was and still is a nobody, he's never fought one good fighter besides Boomboom. The fact that he gave the kid so much trouble should have given Rey enough reason to check himself.

No, I won't run. I will wait for De Leon to get older, may be after 5 years. Then I will call for a fight with him and will knock him out in 10 seconds. That way, I can avenge my humiliating loss.hehehe.

Even so I think PDL put the fear of God in that kid.
As iv mentioned already, you can
