Re: Mayweather Knocked Down against Hernandez ??
He wasn't in trouble. He hit Hernandez, hurting his hand. The pain made him double over causing his glove to touch the canvas. He was never hit. But since the ref saw his glove touch the mat he ruled it a knock down.
-
Re: Mayweather Knocked Down against Hernandez ??
Then Floyd went down because of the pain.
Ever since Floyd got his azz served by Paul Spadafora during sparring, Floyd has negleted to let anyone film him spar. But again, I don't count sparring as boxing bouts, know what I mean.
Anyway, I hope Floyd does not use this as an excuse to run all night and I also hope he does not use this as an excuse when and if he loses. Those were the words of Ricky Hatton too.
Edited, modified. What Hernandez are you talking about? BTW. I thought you were saying that he was sparring with Hernandez and he was knocked down because I saw Floyd on the canvas during the show.
-
Re: Mayweather Knocked Down against Hernandez ??
Floyd landed a punch to the top of Hernandez' head in a fight and broke his hand, the pain caused him to double over and his glove touched the canvas. So technically, Floyd has one knockdown in his career, but everyone acknowledges that he's never been really knocked down.

His glove also touched the canvas against Judah.

Re: Mayweather Knocked Down against Hernandez ??
nah it was genaro Hernandez in his 15th or 16th fight and he wasnt in a spot of trouble and ended up soundly beating hernandez 4 the title, bt this fight is where his hand problems started that is what was being refered to in the show i think.

Oh, ok thank you. I am going to watch the show right now. CC 173

Re: Mayweather Knocked Down against Hernandez ??
actually it was the Carlos Hernandez fight and he hurt it in Rd 5 but he continued and won a UD, shows he has got heart. The Paul Spadafora sparring was aparantly due to Floyd running his mouth and getting a beating cause he wasnt in great shape, you can understand why he stopped filming of his sparring tho considering all the s**t he got for it,

That's a good point and completely slipped my mind. That could have been called a knockdown.
I guess instead of me saying, "he's never been knocked down," the better way to put it would be "The one official knockdown of his career wasn't a real knockdown."
-
Re: Mayweather Knocked Down against Hernandez ??
No trainer worth there salt is gonna let there fighters sparring get filmed in the run up to a title fight, just to much on the line, Hatton hant been seen sparring either they just decided to mention it in floyds camo.

YOu are wrong... He was never knocked down against Genaro... they both pushed eachother over in the first round, but there was no official knock down. He has only been down once officially against the other Hernandez, Carlos Hernandez, and that was his second last fight at 130 pounds. He also was unofficially down when He came in with a cross to the body against Judah and he was countered by a right hook he wasn't expecting and he knocked off balance which caused him to touch the ground, but the ref ruled it a non-knockdown even though the replays showed it was, However Floyd wasn't hurt, just off balance from an unexpected punch.

Re: Mayweather Knocked Down against Hernandez ??
That shot in the 2nd Hernandez fight, can anyone confirm it was his left hand?
I'm positive it was, it's just the HBO commentator (can't rememeber who) kept saying that he'd hurt his right hand, hence why he was 'pawing' Hernandez away with his right. ??? ???
Yet he pretty much never through another left after he hurt what I thought was his left hand!
I know it don't matter either way, just wondered... ;)

Re: Mayweather Knocked Down against Hernandez ??
Taeth cc bro ur right my bad the carlos fight was the 1 after the chico fight, R.i.p.

It was his left hand, and he hurt the left rotator cuff against Castillo the first fight which limited his jab. He also hurt his right hand against Baldomir, and there were reports that he also hurt it against Oscar Dela Hoya.

Re: Mayweather Knocked Down against Hernandez ??
I've always looked at it as mayweather technically has been counted as down, but he has never been put down. Seems like mayweather himself is the only one who has put him down, unless hernandez wants to be given credit for having a hard enough head to break floyds hand and make him touch.

Floyd also got knocked down and almost knocked out in sparring while preparing for the De La Hoya fight. Funny they didnt mention that on 24/7 ;)

Zab knocked him down...it was a no call.

Your source? During the Hatton 24/7 series it just looked like he was tired after hard session. People don't think he has heart, but he trains so hard that in the fight he doesn't have to push himself.
-
Re: Mayweather Knocked Down against Hernandez ??
I don't know why but somethings telling me to do this.
PBF
Official knockdowns: 1 - PBF punched Carlos Hernandez with his right hand and it hit Carlos on top of his head. This cause PBF pain in his arm and hit left glove touched the canvas. Referee Grable began to count out PBF.
Push: 2 - PBF and Genaro both pushed eachother this was not ruled a knockdown.
Not official: 1 - PBFs glove touched the canvas vs. Zab but it was not ruled a knockdown.
-
Re: Mayweather Knocked Down against Hernandez ??
hernandez didn't knock him down. mayweather touched the canvas because he hurt his hand although zab did

Who cares about sparring anyway? I mean there are all kinds of clips with people getting one upped in sparring. I mean one that comes to mind is Soliman and Kessler. I mean Soliman was schooling Kessler and everyone said it dont friggin matter its sparring and you dont know what techniques people are working on. Same as the supposed Paul Williams vs Margarito. Anyone could see that Mayweather in this clip was horribly out of shape. BIG DEAL he is the best PFP#1 fighter in the world today bar none  ;)
The only time I ever saw Floyd in any kind of potential trouble was against Chop Chop, even then he showed great heart and resiliency

Re: Mayweather Knocked Down against Hernandez ??
The only time i can even remember Mayweather being cut was early in his career by Jesus Chavez by a head butt and no it isn't the Jesus Chavez you lot are thinking about its another Jesus Chavez.
I remember Mayweather having bloody nose vs Burton aswell.

I have watched most of Mayweather's fights and he has dug deep in plenty of fights.
Burton
Chavez
Castillo
Ndou
Corley
Just to name a few and i can name over 10+ fights of Mayweather's that were exciting. When people say all of his fights are boring thats when i can tell they have seen only his fights with Oscar, and Baldomir and really and truthfully they are talking out there a** ;)

Re: Mayweather Knocked Down against Hernandez ??
Looking at floyds sparring knock down record is a huge stretch, people really hate him that much ?? There's enough on the surface for people not to like for those that don't, but what he does in sparring is a bit much.

I hear a lot from different people from different gyms but I dont want to get into specifics. It is from a credible source though I will say that. Also the man that knocked him down was a former middleweight champion and no it wasnt Hopkins.

Re: Mayweather Knocked Down against Hernandez ??
Holy shit...this thread has become hillarious.
Danny G...you really do kill me...I've never seen anyone hate on a fighter so much that it becomes almost childish.
Really.
You consider a man doubling over in pain from fracturing his hand & touching the mat a knockdown?
I consider a knock down as an ass planted on the canvas by the force of another man‘s punch or the accumulation of many...as would most boxing fans.
If you want to talk about first career knock downs...I'd look back to the second round of Cotto vs Torres...but I’m sure that you’ll talk your way outta that one, huh? Probably some mysterious invisible banana peel or something like that?
The thing is...being a fan of Cotto's...I can honestly say...that he got knocked down & not have issues with it. I can even say that I was impressed with his win over Corley...as shakey & dubiously early plucked as it was.
I'd do the same for Floyd...but I really don't need to because Floyd's never been officially knocked down & he's rarely left much doubt for his abilities or the outcome of the bouts.
Exciting? Certainly.
To name a few...Floyd vs Arroyo, Manfredy, N'dou, Augustus, Corrales, Sosa, Hernandez, Castillo, & Juuko were all exciting & pretty much a showcase of Floyd's talents. The majority of those ended in knockouts also.
The Judah & Oscar fights were also exciting...but I can see where many were disappointed because Floyd stayed on the offensive for the bulk of the bout. The point that I'm trying to make is...although both fighters totally differ in style...Floyd is no less important to his fans as Cotto's is to his.
It's just a bit odd to listen to a boxing fan that looks past things of that nature & grasps on to a mit touching the mat. ???

Than what your saying is pretty much nonsense and means nothing since you can't provide a source other than hearsay.

You are an anonymous guy on a forum. If you have heard it from "a lot of people", then it is clearly not a secret. So why not just share the details?
Why the 007 shit?

I hate to agree...but I agree.
I'd love to know who it was that knocked him down.
Another thing that amuses me...everyone focuses on the Spad sparring as a barometer for how great Spad was & could have been. I've done it myself...& I think that Paul Spad was fantastic...but one thing that everyone who rips on Floyd let's slide...the fact that Floyd looked about 20 or 30lbs heavy of his weight.
Let's forget that. ::**

Let me clarify myself, I have heard this particular thing from a couple of credible people and have not heard about it since so Im assuming it was kept quiet by his people casue they dont want it publicly known, what I do know is that Im very certain it happened but this is the internet and things spread fast so im not trying to start anything especially if it was a closed sparring session but since I brought it up I will say that it was a former title holder that Hopkins and Trinidad beat. That should tell you who the guy is, but he is a hard punching middleweight so I dont think that that should count against Floyd. Hes never been badly hurt where when it really counts.

I agree that it is not entirely fair to hold a sparring session against a fighter cause sparring is where your supposed to sharpen up. Most fighters who begin sparring or a fight dont look great for the first few spars. Its part of getting in fighting shape. Im not a Floyd fan but I really dont care if he has an off night sparring, hes still a great fighter.

If I remember correctly William Joppy was contacted to spar with Mayweather. But it never took place due to Joppy having some sort of legal problems.

I heard about the knockdown too on other forums but it doesn't really matter,he wins in the ring, that
s the most important thing.. The only thing I find interesting is that Mayweather never allows his sparring sessions to be filmed. Why all the secrecy?I thought he would lvoe the cameras on him.

Well, if it is going to be ammunition for his haters, then I understand why he keeps the sparring sessions private. My guess is that he doesn't want to give away the fitness tricks. The nine and twelve minute rounds, etc.
I would love to have seen the sparring session that left Melvin Michael bloody on the last 24/7. I would also love to see the sessions with Jantuah and Edouard.
Greg Leon said that he saw ("with my own eyes") FMJ stop a SMW in sparring. Who knows?

Just wanted to reply to this because i never got the chance, if you have ever boxed you would know every great boxer or any boxer for that matter, has took at least few whoopings in sparring thats part and parcel. Even the great Sugar Ray Robinson was knocked out cold twice in sparring by Charley Burley, like i said no matter how good you are every boxer takes a whooping in sparring.
