Why should Calzaghe have the privilege
of fighting all his professional fights in Great Britain? Why can't he come over to the USA to fight Hopkins? Isn't Hopkins the more accomplished of the two?
-
Re: Why should Calzaghe have the privilege
Yes Hopkins is the more accomplished of the 2. But Calzaghe's pimp (Frank Warren) rather Joe stay at home. And Joe won't question his pimp.
-
Re: Why should Calzaghe have the privilege
Don't worry.
Hopkins POINT-BLANK REFUSES to fight Calzaghe in Great Britain.
I'm not saying he's scared to leave home but he POINT-BLANK REFUSES to fight Calzaghe in Great Britain.

Re: Why should Calzaghe have the privilege
Why do all of the big fights have to be in the USA? Champion of the WORLD means just that. Not just champion of the USA. These Yanks are so full of themselves it's pathetic. The same people make a world series every year which does not include the world at all. Get over yourselves Americans. If anything, they should have the fight in some poor country like Ali/Foreman did. Peter Manfredo Jr. had the balls to travel abroad and Hopkins doesn't? What is up with that?

Re: Why should Calzaghe have the privilege
er, why should hopkins have the 'privilege' of fighting all his fights in the US?
oh, he's American. i get it.
-
Re: Why should Calzaghe have the privilege
Up to this point, Calzaghe has had too much of a privileged boxing career. All his fights he had home court advantage, it is time he step off of his pedal stool, roll up his sleeves and do some real work.
-
Re: Why should Calzaghe have the privilege
all good points but manfredo didnt have a choice it was the Uk or nowhere, surely you dont think calzaghe shoulda travelled to fight the contender runner up.

And another thing, everyone knows Hopkins could not attract flies even if he covered himself with shiet and sprinkled powdered sugar all over himself. Calzaghe can fill a Stadium. Can B-Hop do that? I don't think so. The only reason Calzaghe will come to the U.S would be for the money but American money is on the decline and dropping fast. Euro's have more weight than that cheap whore known as the Dollar.

why does all of Calzaghe's big fights have to be in the UK? I could understand Kessler and Lacy going to the UK to try to dethrone him, but if Calzaghe wants to dethrone Hopkins he should come here. Simple honor and respect demands in.

Ain't that like saying Audley Harrison had the balls to come to the US but not Calzaghe?

Re: Why should Calzaghe have the privilege
On seats...
Calzaghe draws 50,000 in UK.
Hopkins draws 2,000 in US.
As a promoter I wonder where I would hold the fight.
Hmmm... let me think...

At the end of the day, this is going to show us who wants it more. I think Calzaghe will come just this once to the U.S.
Calzaghe should ask for a compromise which states that if Calzaghe comes to America, he will get the much larger purse because B-Hop is not only being a biatch about the location, he is also playing hardball regarding the money situation. I say make this fight in a neutral country and winner takes the bigger purse. These two old phuk heads are acting like kids. No wonder they never grow old because neither one has grown up.

Sounds like you got it bang on. But whilst we're at it....Hopkins has left the US twice, for opponents with a combined record of (26-10-1), whilst Calzaghe's two opponents outside of the British isles have a combined record of (74-3-0).

Re: Why should Calzaghe have the privilege
I think all the big fights should be held in Vegas. There is just something about Vegas, all the greats have fought there, its the glits, glamour and 24 hour party atmosphere that Cardiff or anywhere else for that matter just cant provide

I don't even think Calzaghe should have fought Manfraudo in the 1st place; much less where it took place. Isn't there somewhere Joe and Hop can fight that's not in the U.S. or Wales? Like Ireland? Like the Russians and Americans when they went there to talk about nuclear disarmament? What a couple of puss#es. They should fight in Turkey, cause that's what they both act like ::**

How many fights you been to at each destination? Can't say I been to Vegas, but from what I've seen in "the movies" and fights televised from there, it seems a little dead to me. Then again, I'm biased as I love a good fight night and a knees up down in Cardiff.

Re: Why should Calzaghe have the privilege
Botha v Tyson is the only fight i have ever been to but i was in vegas a few days before the first Tyson Holyfield fight and there was a real buzz around the place

Can't disagree more. This is an international sport with many great fights fought all over the world; including, Madison Square Gardens, Atlantic City, Mexico City, London, Paris, Africa, Asia, and on and on and on. All big fights being in Vegas will only diminish the sport. Unfortunately, this seems to be happening anyway.

Calzaghe fought 15 times in effectively a foreign country before he won his first world championship. He's Welsh and his early fights were in England. He's also gone to Denmark and Germany to fight.

You missed my point bro. I'm saying B-Hop shouldn't be throwing stones when he's sneaking a smoke down in the glasshouse himself. I apologise if Will McIntyre and Mario Veit don't carry the gravitas and potential HOF legacies of Segundo Mercado and Anibal Miranda.

You couldn't be more wrong. There's nothing like a big fight in Vegas. The atmosphere is incredible. The casinos are jumping. Every thing is cracking. Vegas is a party city. Nothing like it.

Well I can't speak for Vegas....but America doesn't seem to share the tolerance for getting wasted that we Brits do, and that we associate with a big party. I been kicked out of bars in Orlando, Minneapolis, Duluth, San Francisco and LA. REckon the casinos will let me drink till dawn and not give a f**k?

Honestly...it's no different than Hopkins never fighting outside the U.S. & it's really a ridiculous double standard.
Right now...I honestly believe that Hopkins needs Calzaghe, now.
Calzaghe, IWHO, deserves to fight where he wants to.
Being a Hopkins fan...all of this might sound odd...but he knows that the offer that they made was for shit.
Calzaghe's got the record for his unbeaten stretch hanging in the balance, he's topped Hopkins former record breaker, & he's gaining in popularity now with fan & the media. In the end...Hopkins always proves to be a pain in the ass to deal with...he'll ruin the possibilities of the fight happpening. No shit...I'm honestly debating the noon that Hopkins might even be "sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeered" of ole' Joespeh

But, on TV that atmosphere can come across quite muted, unless its a fighter with a massive following.

both joe and warren just keep singing the same song......... sticking to fighting decent euro fighters in wales never considering going to vegas etc etc etc
a few years back roy jones said he wanted to fight joe and he'd do it in the uk...... but they said that roy was to old, had been sparked twice so it wasn't an option........ then they fight manfredo saying its for american tv......... surely roy jones a few years earlier would have been bigger, they pulled out the johnson fight twice so glen said he wants a money garenti so if they pullout again johnson gets paid for his truble they said no and the fight died there an then............... sounds a bit weird that..... TURN DOWN ROY JONES, TURN DOWN GLEN JOHNSON, fight unknown bika, fight tv celeb manfredo, do your best to call out past his best 43 year old hopkins

It comes down to this. Joe can stay in the UK if he likes. Your correct he should do what he wants. But if he dont get the big fights that really cap off his legacy then thats his fault.
Hopkin's legacy is more secure than Joes, maybe not a lot more, but BHOP has the better names on his resume than Joe. Joe really needs the Hopkins fight more than the nard does, he is gonna be 44 for fuck sake!
I think Joe could really cap off his career by calling Hopkins bluff, taking the smaller purse flying to the good ol' US of A and beat BHOP. That would be impressive stuff and prove all his detractors wrong. Cos if he never goes to the US he will always have those detractors whether he deserves it or not.
I believe Joe probably would do this and its more his management team who wont risk it.

Calzaghe works for Warren. He would never question his pimp. It's always "Frank knows best" that comes out of Joe's mouth.

Re: Why should Calzaghe have the privilege
then joes just another pretender making out he's great when he's nothing more then good, if he wants big fights and he knows what big names he's after then he has to be a fool to let warren talk him out of it
bottom line, joe is either stupid on the subject or just a coward who wont fight outside of the uk because he claims he wants big names but lets them slip by coz of warren

I ain't no Hatton fan but it's no surprise that his career has moved forward at a faster rate ever since he ditched Warren. I think it brings the question to mind, what the fuck does Warren have on Calzaghe?

Re: Why should Calzaghe have the privilege
well there must be something because joe seems to dance to his every tune, and your right hatton has gone much further without warren
joe should look at hatton and say " man that kid seems to be going from strenght to strengh, he's a much bigger name then me, he's gained much more respect then me in a 3rd of the time and he's earning much more then me, he's in a superfight in two weeks as well, he wasn't much when he was with warren but he's gone a lomg way since leaving him" the penny should then drop....... unless joes just plain old scared about fighting big names in america

Joe's accomplished a lot more than Hatton & is the better fighter...so perhaps it TOTALLY is Warren that ruins the Calzaghe image.

How? Hatton fought and beat Tsyzu (the best at the time) now he is fighting Mayweather, who is the best of his generation.
Whether you like it or not, Lacy and Kessler doesn't come close to Tsyzu or Mayweather.
