Re: Calzaghe rejects Hopkins offer.....
sounds to me like joes the one who dont want the fight
-
Re: Calzaghe rejects Hopkins offer.....
I can understand him wanting good money for this fight but he will be getting millions either way so perhaps he should just take it sometimes ring achievements out way the money.

Joe initially said he wanted 2.5 million pounds for the fight, thats roughly 5 million American
Now 8 is apparantly below his dignity

Re: Calzaghe rejects Hopkins offer.....
Calzaghe is a prideful man, just the usual pre-fight postureing they will sign this. GBP hasnt missed the baoat yeat in promoting the best possible fights and finding a way to get it done
-
Re: Calzaghe rejects Hopkins offer.....
Joes playing his hand here, hes already sold on the fight hes just trying his luck and seeing if GBP can dish out maybe another mill.
Whenever you hear about offers, and bids and all that think of it like a hand of Texas Hold' Em you gotta play it smart and get as much money as you can in the pot. Joe knows hes got the upper hand even over Hopkins. I really mean that B-Hop is the more recognizable name in the states but as of late we are more impressed with Joe then Hop.

Doubt they get a Sou more
Theres also TV rights to consider
Hopkins/Wright was a PPV,and then got re-run on HBO,so you get a double dip there
Calzaghe/Kessler was a freebie on HBO and hasnt been re-run
Not to mention him turning down 3 million dollars more then he initially asked for,you think Hopkins doesnt consider that a slap in the face?
This isnt same Danish promoter with a champion nobodies heard of
Nobody who isnt desperate or naive takes Warrens terms

Well even so I mean Joe just Legitimized his stature of being the #1 or #2 168lber EVER, and a reigning 10 year champ. I think he deserves to balk at the offer just for pride if not anything else. I mean if he just took the offer like a tail wagging puppy it would kind of lessen his cause ;)

Look at it from Bernards point of view,he has no earthly reason to take this fight.
He's allready going down as one of the greats
He's allready beaten everyone they said he couldnt
Whats in it for him but $$$?
Hed never agree to the unification tournament
Dangit
Well hell never get to the final fight
Dangit
We he cant possibly beat Tito
Dangit
Well he cant possible go up in weight at his age and beat Tarver
Dangit
Well Wrights one of the best defensive technicians of all time,no shot
Dangit
He's offered up more then enough money, hell GB has offered up 3 million more then Joe asked for,Joe doesnt take it thats his problem.
Props to Joe for finally fighting Kessler, but hey made Mikkel jump through hoops to get there.
Bernard isnt big on jumping through hoops

Right...so the previous scenario which saw Hopkins say he wanted $3 million four years ago, and then demand $6 million when he was offered what he demanded. This is just a bit of gamesmanship, oneupmanship and revenge getting back in the mix of things.

I just know Warren well enough that he'll think just because he was able to strong arm Kessler's camp,he'll get away with it again.
Expect Joe to either take another fight at home, and expect to hear a bunch of BS Warren leaks.
But dont expect this fight to happen
-
Re: Calzaghe rejects Hopkins offer.....
Calzaghe should have left Warren like Naz and Hatton did.
-
Re: Calzaghe rejects Hopkins offer.....
Joe and Warren talked the smack
Joe said he wanted 5
GB threw down the gauntlet by saying,"Fine, you want 5,here's 8"
Joe had no intention of fighting Hopkins and is trying to find a way to squirm out of it,that the British press will buy,and since they are such duitiful servants for Warren, they will report it,just to keep their "inside access"
I wont be suprised to see Jones/Calzaghe though,Roy needs a big fight to put himself on the top of the pile again.Hes desperate enough to let Warren have his way more
-
Re: Calzaghe rejects Hopkins offer.....
If Calzaghe lost to a 43 year old Hopkins surely it would damage is legacy abit. They would say as soon as he fights an elite fighter he loses am i right??

Errrrrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmm...not sure I can 100% agree on that one.
Yes...he has been impressive...but I aint sure I can say that I'm more impressed. I'm impressed with Joe & he did well against Kessler & against Lacy & handled those in between...but in the end...he still aint a Hopkins.
Now that being said...I believe that Calzaghe should be considered a GOAT in the end...especially if/when he beats the Nard...& I believe that he will.

Re: Calzaghe rejects Hopkins offer.....
Thats the problem with todays fighters, a bunch of spoiled brats, Calzaghe, Hopkins, Jones, Delahoya, mayweather, the list goes on a big bunch of babies. only the fans suffer.

The calzaghe kessler fight played about 5 times on all the hbo channels during the week... as much as i didn't like him before i'd pay to watch him again not so much b-hop anymore

Re: Calzaghe rejects Hopkins offer.....
So Calzaghe dismisses a fight with both Hopkins and Woods. I'm not surprised. Calzaghe next fight will be against some one along the lines of Silvio Branco or the recently defeated Tito Mendoza. It's what Calzaghe has been doing his whole career.

Re: Calzaghe rejects Hopkins offer.....
Hey didnt Calzaghe make this statement not too long ago?
Also on fightnews http://www.fightnews.com/page2.shtml
Calzaghe rips Hopkins!
Unified super middleweight king Joe Calzaghe has lashed out at Bernard Hopkins after Hopkins' trainer Nazim Richardson suggested that "The Executioner" should fight the Roy Jones Jr-Felix Trinidad winner rather than Calzaghe. "I'd have more respect for him [Hopkins] if he just came out and said 'Joe, look, if I fight you I'm going to get my a-- seriously beat. I accept that you are the best so why don't you just let me be and allow me to fight the winner of these old guys so I can just have an easy pay day' but instead, he's got his trainer to basically say 'Thanks, but no thanks, Bernard doesn't need to tangle with a dangerous young guy like you'....if he is the legend that he says he is then fight me, or otherwise be known as 'the guy who twice chickened out of fighting Joe Calzaghe.'"
And now Joe Calzaghe(talking in the third person now) doesn't want to fight Hopkins?

Great champions. Ha. Calzaghe pulled out against Johnson in 2004 and 2006. The fighters he faced after pulling out were "The Legendary " Kabary Salem and "The Great" Sakio Bika. I guess winning the Contender series makes Bika a great champion

Re: Calzaghe rejects Hopkins offer.....
Face it they did their normal routine, ask for something they know they wont get,and then they go around to all the Brit tabloids complaining how theyre being dodged.
Except this time they got flat out called on it,and got offered more then they were asking for.
Remember when all they offered Kessler was the European TV rights?
Its typical s from the Warren stable

pre Mayweather - DLH announcement
pre Mayweather - Hatton announcement
pre Calzaghe - Lacy announcement
pre Calzaghe - Kessler announcement
there where massive ho hars about these fights on fighter ducking the other offers and counter offers etc but they all got made.... strange world boxing init ;)
I also remember Pre Calzaghe-Johnson announcement. 3 times
yeah i can see why it sucks that he avoided the great journeyman to face two unbeaten champions at the top of there game... great point VD ;)
Great champions. Ha. Calzaghe pulled out against Johnson in 2004 and 2006. The fighters he faced after pulling out were "The Legendary " Kabary Salem and "The Great" Sakio Bika. I guess winning the Contender series makes Bika a great champion
so you think Joe was scared of Johnson... WTF errr OK. ;D
Johnson was coming off wins against Jones and Tarver. Calzaghe obviously thought better about facing him.

and about 10 losses on his record to sub par opponents ((which suggested even to my granny that jones was well shot having already been beaten already by tarver))
Lacy before the fight was a far more scary fighter to face, so comon sense tells me his hand trouble and divorce where true.
scared of Johnson ... come on VD thats scraping the pile even for you ;D

Re: Calzaghe rejects Hopkins offer.....
Please lets stop, anybody whose had to do negotiations knows for a fact they arent giving you 3 pennies more then you originally asked for unless theres a message attached.
Joe asked for 2.5 million pounds
Roughly 5 million US
Hopkins camp came back with 8 million US
The message was very, very simple,"I'll see you in the ring, and youve got no excuses now"
And Joe backed down, plain simple, and as clear on the nose on your face

this 8 million offer has been posted nowhere apart from a piss poor site that prob makes S*** up to gain traffic, so until i get a PR from golden boy stating the 8 million offer was made... i'll take it with a pinch of salt. ;)
