Dan Birmingham says Winky would come to UK to fight Calzaghe
Click the link guys. This would be a good fight for Joe. Can't argue with this one.

This would be a good fight Winky is an elite fighter.

Re: Dan Birmingham says Winky would come to UK to fight Calzaghe
Be a good payday for both and a good name for Calzaghe's record but
Winky is older, smaller, has more miles on the clock and no chance.

Yep. They know Winky will travel. Just give him a decent payday and he'll come take his lopsided points loss.

Re: Dan Birmingham says Winky would come to UK to fight Calzaghe
Supermiddleweight is no good for Wright, i do admire Wright he had to go all over Europe in his early career he always fights the best. But in this fight he has bitten off more than he can chew.

Re: Dan Birmingham says Winky would come to UK to fight Calzaghe
I suppose this fight wouldn't actually be to bad....Wonder why there talking about having it in the UK....There must be enough interest to get this one in America. Or is Winky just not that popular over there?
-
Re: Dan Birmingham says Winky would come to UK to fight Calzaghe
This would be better if Calzaghe fought Winky in the states it would drum up good interest for Hopkins vs Calzaghe and give the americans chance to see Calzaghe.Calzaghe has to stop the wanting home advantage thing.

Agreed...but I doubt Joe will want to take a cut in pay.

Re: Dan Birmingham says Winky would come to UK to fight Calzaghe
winky should not fight anywhere near 168. his fight with hopkins he looked horrible. he wouldn't look any different at 168. 160 is where he belongs.

Straightforward Calzaghe win. Fine, for a stay busy fight I suppose.
But Winky hasnt been impressive for a while and this isnt really what I want to see in a final trio of Calzaghe fights.

Agreed, but there are no big fights for Winky there at the mo, two best guys are fighting each other and I doubt Abraham wants anything with him. Winky's at the age where he only wants big fights, so I'm sure he wouldn't pass at a shot at the top Super Middle. I see Winky giving Joe problems in a cagey fight, but unable to hurt him, could be dull.

Re: Dan Birmingham says Winky would come to UK to fight Calzaghe
I think Winky would get finished for the first time. He should fight Vernon Forrest at 154lbs.
-
Re: Dan Birmingham says Winky would come to UK to fight Calzaghe
we all saw winky look soft in the tummy against hopkins at 170lbs, we all saw winkys legs are shot now against hopkins, we all know winky hasn't ko'd anyone in years, we all know winky is a stand infront of you fighter now ( which is joes typical opponet )..................... SO HE'S IDEAL FOR JOE, still joe wont want to go america trust me............. joes bigger, stronger, much busier, has a better reach, winky will stand there and take 100's of punchs so joe would win by ud in wales
joes not goner go america for nothing, if this happens it'll happen because everythings in joes favour and thats the type off opponet joe likes, winkys a legend at 154 but hes past his best his legs are gone and never a supermiddle but winkys a warrior which i respect
once again joe may get the chance to fight someone who has the courage to travel unlike joe whos pants fill at the thought of going america

Actually, a fight with Mayorga would probably bring him more money.
-
Re: Dan Birmingham says Winky would come to UK to fight Calzaghe
Wright is no opposition for Calzaghe, just a really shit fight. Who honestly would expect Winky to have any chance of winning that? He's got less punch power than Calzaghe, his legs are gone and he's well over his natural weight.
Easy, easy UD win for Calzaghe in a boring fight.
Hopkins, Pavlik, Taylor, Woods, Jones Jr are Calzaghe's options. Nobody else is woth while imo.

Re: Dan Birmingham says Winky would come to UK to fight Calzaghe
no big name should fight calzaghe, he doesn't deserve the big payday, the large part of his reighn has been against stand infront of you limited euro opponets, lacy was taylor made for him, kessler was a stand infront of me to, he only had those fights because those guys aggreed to travel to wales, if they where like joe and refused to fight outside there backyards he'd have never fought them and never made headlines
sod joe calzaghe all talk

There's not a whole lot that is easy in the life of a boxer, regardless of where he fights and the (at times) questionable quality of his opposition.
How can you deride Calzaghe for fighting Kessler? He was the #2 man at SM, with Joe being #1, and the only other "champion"/belt-holder worth fighting. We all get it, guys like Manfredo and Ashira weren't much of a challenge, no shit, but Lacy and Kessler were legitimate threats (or in Lacy's case seen as a legitimate threat at the time). It didn't matter where the fight took place, Kessler was the only guy to fight.

and so joes now a hero for it yeah......... let me ask this, johnny nelson was wbo champion for 7 years, why is there no topics about him being this great fighter a warrior, defending his title for 7 years is it because he was fighting low calibre boxers. why did joe drop the ibf belt after beating lacy, is it because it woyuld allow him to fight unknown bika and tv celeb manfredo instead of a mandatory with the ibf................ thats what i mean by easy life
-
Re: Dan Birmingham says Winky would come to UK to fight Calzaghe
Good point Nelson was champ for 7 year and also Naz was WBO champ and made 15 defences and beat IBF,WBC,WBA champs but thats all forgotten now.

::** An easy life is you sat on the other end of your computer criticising a fighter for getting in the ring which I'm sure you've never done.

Re: Dan Birmingham says Winky would come to UK to fight Calzaghe
i've been boxing at ama level for years altho i have slowed down with it over the last couple of years to concentrate on my internet critizing carreer, but mostly because in my last 4 fights i've started taking shot i never used to and making weight was becaoming a real task

Never, but there again I'm not the one being niave am I?
How can any boxer have an easy life? Also going back to what you said before about how Joe dropped his IBF belt to take easy defences, he actually made an IBF title defence against Bika, sanctioned by the governing body. Manfredo...arbeit a mismitch gave him exposure in America if nothing else. Ruling the division for 10 years is a bloody good achievement. Beating Kessler was impressive. Saying any boxer has an easy life is just stupid. There is nothing easy about going toe to toe with another human being 44 times.
I'm not exactly a Joe supporter, but to dismiss his talent and say he has an easy life is just F****** stupid.

You're absolutely correct, Joe C was shitting himself at the prospect of fighting Berrio, said so in many interviews, that's why he picked to fight Kessler, because Kessler was so obviously a bum and a shit fighter ::**

my saying GOOD OLD JOE LIKES THE EASY LIFE was a sarcastic coment, aimed at the fact he fights on home soil against largely unknown fighters thats all

Not to split hairs, but nuclear bull's points become even less valid when you take into account that it was in fact Robert Stieglitz who was the mandatory spot holder due to challenge Calzaghe as the IBF's mandatory, who ended up sparked in 3 rounds by Berrio in the rematch of their IBF Eliminator.

If that is your explanation of a sarcastic comment I suggest you revisit your dictionary. If "Good old Joe likes the easy life" was made in sarcasm, it would imply that in reality he's had hard fight after hard fight, which is not necassarily the case.
