Well fellas we've come to the conclusion to another year in boxing. But not jusy any year this is by far one of the best years boxing has offered quite possbily ever....

With that being said here I am again hosting the 2nd annual Saddo Boxing Awards 2007. For those of you who missed 2006s awards run a quick search and I'm sure you'll find it.

So here it is again.

Rules:
Categories will be listed you can ONLY list ONE nominee per category.
Votes will be counted for on the given date. Any modifications made after that date will be void.
Voting will begin TODAY Dec. 9th and the last day to vote will be Dec. 29th
I will then lock this thread and count up all the votes I will also make a new thread with the winners.

Ok here's my picks and why.


1. Fighter of the year. Kelly Pavlik. True Floyd's wins stack up nicely but he was already the p4p best so I kind of expect it from him. Kelly came from nowhere to become one of the most popular and exciting fighters in the sport. I think when people look back on 2007 the fighter they say who most came of age will be Kelly Pavlik.

2. Fight of the year. Well I loved the Mormeck Haye rematch but I'm going to go with Pavlik Taylor. It was for the middleweight belt, the most glamourous non heavyweight division and he won in spectacular style after picking himself up off the canvas. Huge win against a champion who although much maligned was still in his fighting prime.

3. Round of the year, Codrington vs Bika Round 1. Tremendous action, how the pendulum swung in that round!

4. Knock out of the year. Floyd vs Hatton. Ok technically he got up but he was effectively out when he got punched into the turnbuckle and it sure was a highlight reel KO.

5. Upset of the year

I'll probably forget somebody but I'd say Nonito Donaire's stunning one punch KO win over Vic Darchinyan was one I never saw coming. Pavlik win over Taylor was good but half the boxing world was picking him to beat Taylor.

6. Comeback of the year

Haye vs Mormeck. It could well have been Pavlik but I don't want to give him every award. Beside's Haye's win was on foreign soil and Mormeck was also the undisputed champ. Great win for Haye after being knocked down.

7. Event of the year
Hatton vs Mayweather. Floyd's fight with Oscar may have been bigger in terms of PPV's but certainly the Hatton fans made this night something special. The whole buildup was great too.

8. Worst fight of the year
Jeff Lacy vs Peter Manfredo. Lacy has gone from America's hottest fighter to a shell of his former self. It was depressing to watch.

9. Prospect of the year. Amir Khan, has his critics but show me a more exciting fighter in the world at his age? Linares ran him close but as a world champ I guess he's no longer a prospect. Khan delivers dazzling speed with obvious power. He's vulnurable but that makes him exciting. He's a super talent.

1. Fighter of the year-[b]Kelly Pavlik--Pavlik beat one of the most feared punchers then followed it by claiming the MW throne

2. Fight of the year- Joe Calzaghe Vs Mikkel Kessler They made the fight happen, Kessler went into Hostile territory and Calzaghe performed like a star, there was not a dull moment in the fight and in honesty no one was sure who was going to come out on top

3. Round of the year- Vazquez-Marquez round 3 Kind of reminded me of Hagler Vs Hearns...Vazquez in danger of fight being stopped on cuts so it was all or nothing

4. Knock out of the year-Pavlik over Taylor/// Pavlik over Miranda He dispatched to feared slugger then crumpled a P4P fighter in the corner

5. Upset of the year- Doniare over Darchinyan IMO it was not that big of an upset but the fact it came by 1 punch!

6. Comeback of the year- Vernon Forrest Still think he is BORING...but he managed to comeback after obscurity to become champion again (til he signs with Mayorga)

7. Event of the year - Mayweather Vs Hatton This had the hype of the 1970's HW and 1980's WW Superfights...been a long time since people have been that excited for a fight

8. Worst fight of the year- Jeff Lacy Vs Peter Manfredo This was just pitiful especially since it was on the undercard of the biggest fight of the year

9. Prospect of the year-Eddie Chambers, His win over Brock let us know he could be a force in the HW division. He is already a guy people are talking about to beat one of the smaller champions

10. Jermain Taylor over Corey Spinks--Corey Stepped up the smaller man, stood in, Made Taylor look bad and dictaded the fight to his terms.

2. Fight of the year - calzaghe/kessler (just because i was there more than anything)

The following people PLEASE NOTE that #6 Comeback of the year should infact be "Comeback fighter of the year"
Meaning a fighter who might have been gone last year or disappeared but shined again this year. Or a fighter who might have had a bad 2005, 2006 but cameback and had a good 2007.
So please edit your posts to correct the nominee.

2. Fight of the year - Kelly Pavlik - Jermain Taylor. This fight had everything. Pavlik got sparked but came back to knock Jermain out cold.
3. Round of the year - Definitely Bika vs Codrington Round 1. That might have been one of the best rounds of this decade.
4. Knock out of the year - Mayweather vs Hatton. I'm choosing this because it was so unexpected and it was a picture perfect left hook that basically did Hatton in.
5. Upset of the year -
6. Comeback Fighter of the year - Paulie Malignaggi. After the Cotto fight last year, I thought he was done, but he's rebounded and now a beltholder.
7. Event of the year - The World Awaits and Undefeated (tie)
8. Worst fight of the year - Jermain Taylor - Cory Spinks. I almost stabbed myself in the eyes to stop this nightmare. Then I realized I could change the channel.
9. Prospect of the year -

Before i make this list, I want to make special mention of Diego "Chico" Corrales who provided the best fight I've ever seen. He is a major loss to the sport and I for one will miss him in the ring.

1. Fighter of the year: Juan Diaz (Making two of the divisions best quit on their stool)
2. Fight of the year: Jermain Taylor vs. Kelly Pavlik
3. Round of the year: Jaidon Coderington vs. Sakio Bika Round 1. Twas a pendulum.
4. Knock out of the year: Michael Sprott KO'ing Audley Harrison
5. Upset of the year: Daisuke Naito dethrowning Pongsaklek
6. Comeback Fighter of the year: Colin Lynes (Coming out of nowhere to win British & European titles)
7. Event of the year: Mayweather-Hatton build up. I've never seen anything like it.
8. Worst fight of the year: Jermain Taylor vs. Cory Spinks. I have never wanted a fight to end more than this.
9. Prospect of the year: Amir Khan
10. Robbery of the Year: David Diaz vs. Erik Morales (As bad as Casmayor-Santa Cruz was, Morales was robbed of being Mexico's first 4 weight world champion in a fight most of us didn't give him a prayer in.)

He came back from back to back Ko Losses to remind us how great a fighter he is and always will be and litterally used the very last ounce of fight in him to take young strong hungry champion david diaz to school only to get robbed in a disgusting homtown decision.. -Close second- Paulie Malignaggi - Now a major player at light welterweight and the boxing world in general after loosing for the first time against Miguel Cotto last year

7. Event of the year - Undefeated - Mayweather vs Hatton
8. Worst fight of the year - Spinks - Taylor
9. Prospect of the year - Amir Khan
10. - Robbery of the year - Erik Morales - David Diaz - Erik blatantly won this and as far as figures go his legacy was robbed and future reference will not tell people he was a four weight world champion mexican warrior.. And its fucking disgraceful/ Barrera - Marquez comes close and deserves a mention purely for the disgraceful cards not the winner

I swear I am not lying to you Gamo, I live in Vegas and work at the Wynn hotel ( The newest casino on the strip), I bet on the fight and Cotto was -135 on the money line meaning that every 1.35 you put up you get 1.00 back, Mosley was +120 meaning that every 1.00 you put up you get 1.20 back, although close Cotto was the clear favorite, I bet and won money on the fight.

No he wasnt,especially not the Mosley fight.Maybe for the Judah fight but even then,quite a few thought Judah would have too much handspeed.

Forrest was a good choice! I had forgetten about him. I thought he was used up at the Quartey fight. Now he has 2 wins and looks to be the man to beat in the division.
