Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
I see this in the paper what do you think ??

Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
sounds good to me...i read Bhop wernt "gonna lose to a whiteboy"...hope that aint true.
-
Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
Well my primary point would be to say that i feel the 50/50 split is ustified. Bothe men deserve the financial and repuatable staus of being 50/50 (going into the fight at least.)
I would also like to state that in this situation either man demanding more would be either greedy or attempting to break down negotiations as bothe ar going to make plenty from this fight.

Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
I love Bernard Hopkins (even though he was talking out of the side of his neck about Hatton/Mayweather) but Calzaghe is going to tap that ass like a beer keg. After Lacy, the first time I saw him, I will never bet against Joe. His initials are JC for a reason.

Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
Yes Calzaghe has beat Kessler and Lacy but would Hopkins be the favourite to win been he has mixed in better company?

Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
i really hope this is true - i really wanna head to new york next spring.

I bet it ends up in Wales. They're not going to leave millions of dollars on the table, especially with two to the pound right now.

Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
I really think Hopkins might be too old, this isn't Tarver, and Calzaghe differently than Winky who I feel lost by maybe a round against Hopkins and he was the naturally smaller man while Calzaghe isn't so much. I think like Kessler-Calzaghe their speed will be relatively close and their fighting speed will be even closer because Hopkins reacts so well to everything. I think also that Hopkins right hand is so accurate and hard it will losen Calzaghe up a bit, but Calzaghe's combinations are disorienting, and he throws those combinations so easily. I think this is a close fight, but Hopkins would have beaten Calzaghe if he was the same age.

hmmm he has but i just think Calzaghe would be far too busy for b-hop.....unless b-hop could seriously take something away from joe.......like one of his hands or something ;D

CC, agree completely. Today's Hopkins just doesn't throw enough punches to beat someone as busy as Calzaghe on points. And I don't think he's stopped anyone since little Oscar. Then again, I figured Winky's workrate would do the trick too. I think I'd pick JC, but it'll be very interesting to see what the betting lines are for this fight. The only thing I can say for sure is that--like all of B-Hop's fights from the past 3-4 years -- it will be an ugly fight that's boring and horrible to watch.

No chance Hopkins leaves the States.
Plus he was riled into making racist comments just by Calzaghe turning-up in the same town and a bunch of Hatton nuts getting on his case.. funk knows what he'd do if it was really put on him.

It'll cost him $1.5 million if he stays at home, at least. Probably over two.
Hopkins started with the white guy stuff even before the weigh-in when they had the initial confrontation in the media centre. I'm guessing it was all pre-arranged anyway though.
I reckon that he's going to look at it like this :
He won't draw more than a couple of thousand fans, so Yankee Stadium is out. MSG will be 80% Calzaghe fans, just like Vegas the other night. It's going to be an effective away fixture for Hopkins anyway, so he might as well go where the money is, plus it gives him a good excuse when he loses.
Does anybody know what he was getting sung at him? I read "Hopkins is a wanker" and "you'll never beat Calzaghe" but I'm sure there were others. Is there any video knocking about on the net?

Normally I'd agree with you that it was staged. But don't think so. Hopkins looked a bit miffed at getting jeered and "disrespected" in his Country.
No chance the fight happens in Wales. ;)

Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
It's so easy to look at this fight and say joe wins no problem, but there is just something about hopkins that i hate to bet against.
-
Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
after watching that - i don't think hopkins was miffed - he was just playing up for the crowd - he probs knows joe would have way more fans if and when they fight. its like that bust up he had with winky - that was all staged and even tho he prob didn't plan it - he prob just thought why not get in calzaghes face and get people talking!

Yeah watching it again (sober) I agree. It seemed far more lighthearted than I originally remember ::**

Great to see Bernard encountering a football crowd. :)
And I bet he ends up going to Wales. He knows it's his last fight and he isn't going to leave two million on the table.

Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
I'd thoroughly enjoy seeing B Hop get DESTROYED by Joe,it would be an amazing thing and would make JOE P4P number 1 contender BUT,Joe has struggled against guys that rough him up,guys like Bika and a few others too. B Hop would obviously use his head and elbows as much,if not more than his fists. It could be a tough one for Joe.

Thank you Gamo i have said this for ages, Calzaghe has struggled in rough fights. Reid, Salem, Bika, all these fights come to mind straight away, if anyone thinks Calzaghe is beating Hopkins easy they are seriously mistaken.

Yeah, there are 2 sides to it though. One is Joe struggles with phyisical fighters. The other is,that he fights to the level of his opponents. His best performances have come v his 2 biggest tests, and that is a sign of a great champion and warrior. He even said that he finds it hard to get motivated for the smaller fights,so maybe a big name like B Hop will ignite the fire?I hope so!

Ah I dunno man it's a weird one for me. I think BHop is one of the most boring fighters around nowadays and his fights are painful to watch, that said though I still think the Nard is the most awesome character in boxing.
He just looks, acts and basically is a real fucking cold hearted, street prowling predator. He's one of those guys who just has an aura around him, like you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of him.
Even at 42 he's still a menace and Joe will really have his work cut out.
If I was a yank I'd be rooting heart and soul for the Nard but I can't go against Calzaghe, he's simply a legend and the best fighter Britain has ever produced.

Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
The more i look at this fight between Calzaghe and Hopkins the more i think Hopkins could win i thought Calzaghe would win what with Hopkins losing to Taylor and him been 43 next. But now im thinking he is a great profesional really fit for 43 the fight will be in the states Calzaghe could let the fact he's fighting in the states and not in wales get to him and after watching Lacy and De Leon walk away with clear points wins the judges could play a big part in this fight.
-
Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
as much as this fight has been talked and seems to be coming to a close with a 50/50 split i still won't beleive its on untill GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS ANOUNCE its been signed........ parden me but theres to much crap talk from warren in years gone by to think its a done deal, i just don't ever beleive anything warren says anymore when it comes to making worl title fights and joe's still talking about b-hop not wanting to fight him making me think joes goner back out
if it happens then i'd make joe 60/40 fav to win, he's younger and to busy for a 43 year old b-hop at this stage but hopkins is a wild cat so anything can happen, if b-hop is the same as when he beat tarver then its goner be close

Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
Boxingtalk has a Hopkins interview up on the top of their page, where B-Hop says that he and Richard Schaeffer have offered Calzaghe a 50-50 split to fight in the U.S., and the ball is now in Calzaghe/Warren's court. B-Hop says he has not heard back from them.

Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
I can't believe these 2 are cribbing about percentages.
If they want to fight, just get on with it.
Besides, I can't think of a more boring fight in prospect. :-[

Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
would not suprise me if this fight doesn't happen, where frank warren is theres always a strong chance a good thing turns into a no win thing, he'll likely ruin it all by trying to make more money then everyone else even tho its not his promotion, joe seems to dance to his every tune

For as much of a loud mouth and one with an "Ivory Tower" mentality,I dont think Calzaghe will "Destroy" Him.Hopkins Is like a farkin cockroach,Ya cannot kill him.
A very talented, methodical, calculated and Icy nerved coackroach ;D Calzaghe has grown on me,I like His attitude and hes a pressure fighter that will force old man river B-hop to React all night.IMO theres no way he can outbox Hopkins...and I dont think he would want to as opposed to putting the hurt on him.He could play right into Hopkins hands
-
Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
Joe never ceases to amaze me and he is very crafty and skilled, but I.N.O, at light heavy he will be outwitted by Hopkins becuz he seems to get better with age even tho many wait for him to get his age but he seems to get younger! Hopkins by SD
-
Re: Hopkins vs Calzaghe Have Agreed To 50/50 Split ??
IMO Hopkins can't keep up with Joe...When was the last time you saw Hopkins deal with a guy who has the output of Joe?.....Hopkins is crafty but relies too much on countering....Joe will be at him to much for B-Hop to think about what he is going to do...I take Joe by UD after the middle rounds going to Hopkins......
Look for the GBP roster to accompany Hopkins to the ring in matching spandex led by JMM,,
