Ricky Hattons next move?
I am so gutted about the fight on sat night. I admit that the better fighter won and i take my hat off to FM. I said i was still going to be here and give respect to whoever won and in this case it was FM. Well done to him!
For Ricky now he has IMO 5 choices...
1) Stay at 147 and try his best to push a fight with Miguel cotto. By doing this he shows the world he still has bottle and wants to prove he is a British all time great, by looking to get the best fights and in taking a fight with Cotto I feel that he is ranked 2 at 147 and it would be a highly entertaining fight.
I do believe he would be underdog again in this, but this fight would have to be a toe on toe war, a fight of who wants it the most and it would be intresting. I do admit he is out of his depth at 147, I hate to admit it but its the honest truth. But that still doesnt mean a fight at 147 can't happen. It would give Hatton a good payday and a very intresting match against a very strong fighter in Cotto.
As for the outcome, Cotto would be favourite, but i tell you what, Hatton aint no push over and will do a lot better than an older Shane Mosley and Zab Judah IMO. It would be a good win for both men, if the fight could happen and I would be backing my man Ricky all the way.
2) He could have a fight at 147, so ive read against Oscar De La Hoya. This would be a very tough fight for him but if it was a fight to be in England, at wembley I believe Hatton could have a good chance.
But De La Hoya, IMO is just a name now. He Hasnt proved much in a very long time. It would be a good win for De La Hoya, but for Hatton it wouldnt mean too much. I use to see this fight as career defineing. But as a long at the sheer class of 147 I do honestly believe De La Hoya would get beaten by all of the top boys.
So to be honest i wouldnt want to see this fight, its big risk for Hatton and the win wouldnt do that much. I would prefer the option 1 with Cotto because at least hes a prospect whos got a lot to offer and is one of the mean to beat at 147. The respect that De La Hoya and Hatton show each other is another reason why I dont want it to happen, its kind of sad in a way if they are fighting although they are great mates.
3) Paul Malignaggi at 140. He could move down to this weight and take on PM. I just dont see the fight being too attractive IMO. Hatton would beat PM and I think he would do it well. Its a shame that 140 doesnt have any big names there anymore and PM IMO is the biggest name there. But he hasnt done too much to impress me, Hes young i give him that but he needs to prove that he is the man to beat at 140.
For me this fight doesnt do a lot but assert the fact that Hatton is the best man at 140. It would be a shame to see PM lose this fight which im sure he would do, because he would lose motivation etc and I believe he is going to be the man at 140 in the near future.
4) He could fight Junior Witter at 140. This would be a boring fight IMO, Hatton would get annoyed with his stlye and really would want to knock him out. I believe Witter wouldnt have it in him to do much against the hitman and i feel that Hatton would stop him. It could get intresting if Witter started to trade toe on toe but i believe the strength of Ricky Hatton would be too much for him.
Again this fight doesnt do much for legacy for Hatton. It would just again asure the fight that he is the best at 140 and nobody would beat him there. JW and PM are the only two names for me IMO at 140 that would do anything for Hattons career but again i would be annoyed to see Hatton in these fights.
5) He could call it a day. Although i dont want him to its certrainly and option that is on the cards. But he's in his prime and as a fan i wouldnt want to see him do this. But if this loss has really got to him and he does bad in his next performance i dont want to see him continure to fight because it would be a great shame to see a hero go through another loss like the last one.
I hope that he can get a fight with Cotto, most of you would rip into Hatton if he took a fight like that, but it would be a war, a dam good one too. It shows that he wants the best fighters and by keeping that promise i dont want to see him fight against JW or PM. Cotto is the one for me.

Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
CC Tam.
Its horrible medicine to take.
But today i attempted to make it clear he's still my favourite fighter.
I feel he has options, but whatever decision he m,akes he must commit 100% and really go for it to ensure he gets the legacy he deserves. (also more than 2 fights a year.)

Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
Ricky needs to rest. He was at his best physically against Floyd but didnt quite execute.
I think he should return to 140. And clean up.
If not then stay at 147 and go the Judah route and just stay busy and retain that hunger...
Then step up again...
-
Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
I think Hatton should go back down to 140, and I always have. Credit for trying to bang with Floyd, but that was a lost cause, and though I would like to see Hatton fight Cotto, I think Ricky would do better to get back down where he can rule 140 again.
Witter, Malinaggi, hell maybe even a fight down the line with Juan Diaz if they could come to terms, all would be great fights. Hatton can't stay at 147 IMO. If he does he should at least rematch Collazo and maybe try Zab Judah.
-
Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
Hattons better than Judah though and it would be a great shame to see him go to nothing. I would hate to hear would he could have achieved in comparison to what he will be able to. This is why i want to see the cotto fight. Just to see him showing balls again, the motivation of that for him would be amazing![ftp][/ftp]

Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
CC Tam, Ricky's one of my heroes he's one of a kind and IMO would want Paulie "I am the man" Malignaggi matchup after all the S*** that comes out of his horrible little gob and would fancy Hatton to beat PM with ease.
I really don't like Paulie, he's one of those guys who you love or hate and the mouth on him is so F****** gobby it's unbelievable and he walks round thinking he's number 1, he makes me so frustrated even thinking about him so I'm gonna stop but somebody really needs to shut him up, FOR GOOD.
-
Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
CC's back guys, its just a right pain to think that this loss could be the end of Hatton in some respects. A loss like that would effect him badly. I just hope it doesnt effect him too much and i hope he can fight on and be successful
-
Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
I reckon he should stay busy at light-welter, maybe fight Torres, Lazcano, Holt, Rees, Harris, N'dou, Rabah, or D-Hop
Use that fight as a tune up to fight either Malignaggi or Witter...or both
Take care of them 3 and then Baby Bull should be ready to step up to 140 for a super fight with Ricky.
Thats what i would be thinking about.
Anything at 147 is too much for Hatton. He's simply not physically big enough. End of.

Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
3 fights a year for three years i feel.

Indeed.

Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
If that should happen he could completely empty Light Welter and perhaps go down as the greatest Light Welter?

hmmm maybe
somebody else would have to step up the plate......for him to beat.
like juan diaz

Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
I considered that.
Since theres no other big name, would volume of decent to good opposition suffice?
-
Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
hatton is to small for welter he cant impose himself enough, if he fights oscar he will get stopped n i feel the same would happen against cotto although i think he have better chance wiv cotto, i think graham will convince him he has no chance at welter n to drop back down, he should fight the magic man nxt nand i am 100 percent sure hed win that as paul wont be able to keep him off then witter, which i feel is a very risky fight for him id go as far as saying 50/50, then hopw juan diaz steps u have a classic war wiv him n go down as one of the greatest light welters

Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
ok here is a fight i would reallt love to see hatton vs margarito. i know hatton is too small for 147 but they are both now comming off losses and i think it would make for a great fight , plus ricky is alot faster handed than margarito so its a fight he could win imo.

Hatton/Margarito is one I don't want to see as I am a big fan of both. Margarito is too big and strong for Hatton, and Tony would stop Hatton with body shots IMO. Too much for Hatton, and I don't feel like watching him looking like a turtle on his back laying on the canvas again. Go back to 140 Ricky, or you'll be in trouble at 147.
-
Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
I still have a ton of respect for hatton and think he is still as good or better than most out there, i'd like to see him in another big fight soon. De la hoya sounds really interested.
-
Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
It's up to Ricky, he can make a lot of money fighting Oscar, though he'd very little chance of winning. I'm leaning towards Malignaggi and Witter then call it a day, both would be tough fights but are very winnable compared to the task at WW where he is just too small.
-
Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
I think Hatton should have 6 month off he had a 3 fight year in 2007 vs Urango,Castillo and Mayweather Then he should fight Paulie for the IBF strap then Witter for WBC if he beats Witter perhaps retire or fight Torres for WBO not much left to prove at lightwelter after Witter though if he wins.
-
Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
We already know he is the man to beat at 140 and by beating both Witter and PM it doesnt prove too much. If he has to move to 140 he should go for a Juan Diaz fight that some of you have already mentioned. If Juan Diaz continues to improve and clean up the lightweight devision a fight with Ricky Hatton would be a super fight and I believe it would be a good one to watch.

wel imo it would be better than retiring.
if you call decent to good: torres, holt, d-hop, harris, malignaggi, witter.....if he beat all of them he retires with a very solid legacy.
If he could add ODLH and baby bull then he leaves a fantastic legacy.

I dont believe that beating torres, holt, d-hop, harris, PM and witter would leave a very solid legacy at all. People would refer to him as he could have acheived more if he took a risk, like he did against FM. I would prefer to see him beaten by Cotto in a fantasic fight, than fight all of those 140 pounders who dont bring a lot with their records. Its a shame really because people can be so critical over him and they will be even more now he has a loss. I do agree that if he fought ODLH and Juan Diaz that would leave him with a solid legacy, but the cotto fight would get his legacy even more.

Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
I don't think Ricky has the stamina for 12 rounds anymore, not with his style. He never used to tire no matter what pace the fight went at, his stamina was one of his greatest weapons. I think he should fight twice more at 140 (people he can KO) and hang em up.

Hes not showing his full capability from doing that.

hmm honestly see where your coming from but i don't think he would beat Cotto. not big enough basically. same problem as he will have with oscar.
i do think a legacy reading....
W - Tszyu (ibf champ)
W - Collazo (wba welter champ)
W - Urango (ibf champ)
W - Castillo (legend)
W - Torres (wbo champ)
W - Witter (wbc champ)
W - Malignaggi (ibf champ)
would be solid enough.....only loss being to p4p king up at welter.
be a lot better with a win over Diaz though.....a lot better indeed.
-
Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
I wouldnt mind if he retired after one more win. But obviously one win will turn in to two, into three etc.
I think Witter then Malinaggi or Holt is about the only fights worth making.
Juan Diaz said he'll be up at 140 by 2009 and who knows what sort of a draw the baby bull will be by then but is that a fight Hatton will really want after fighting the worlds best?
Id have him retire now but for a his peace of mind, I think he should retire after a one more title win.

By, say, summer or end of 2009 decent money could probably be made against Amir Khan as well. And at that point it could actually be a legit fight at 140.

Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
Go back to 140 and clean out the div.
Torres would gladly fight him as I'm sure he'll earn his biggest payday there.
Witters been wanting to fight him...
Hatton needs to understand that he needs the bigger names at 140.

but torres is a nobody. He needs to fight the best at 140, there isnt a best fighter there yet apart from Hatton. If witter unifies or PM or anyone etc then he could fight them, apart from that its rather pointless. Juan Diaz does sound greatly appealing though...
-
Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
He better move back down like he was whining about after the fight. I cant see him beating any of the top WW's. Frankly I think Junior Witter would be a good homecoming fight for him, it will be alot closer than most would expect.
-
Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
Witter needs to fight PM and prove he is the best man at 140 IMO untill then i dont think he should get a Hatton fight!

Re: Ricky Hattons next move?
Seriously I think he should fight all the current 140 champs and try and unify the belt then call it a day. Witter, Malignaggi and Torres have the belts, and he should go in that order.

It would be amazing, but with all the negotiations in between it could take a long time!
