Ricky Did What everybody else claim they would do against PBF but i didn't work. that was apply pressuer. hatton stayed in PBF's face the whole fight. he tried to bully and push PBF around the ring and was doing a fairly good job. Hatton took some hard ass shots and just kept comming. i'm glad PBF fought somebody that would stay in his face the whole fight and try and rough him up., now the haters can stop saying that pbf can't handle pressure.

this fight only made me more of a hatton fan. i can't see what anybody out there can do at this point to beat PBF that hasn't been tried already.

ya know i dont relly think he did all he could imo. they talked about all the body punches that hatton was famouse for and i didnt see all that many of them. ricky headhunted alot like delahoya did which didnt work. instead of throwing 4 chopping shots upstairs when he had mayweather on the ropes i think he could have thrown alot more to the body. just my opinion.

It didnt work because Hatton lost his cool way too quickly.... His gripe with the ref had a lot to do with that. (Karma is a beetch! ;D)

Also Floyd was aloud to stick alternating forearms is Hattons face for most of the fight... Which of course ment that hatton just could not get on Floyds chest.

Brilliant tactic IMO but one that Floyd should have been penalised for.... Especially if Hatton had a point deducted for punching the top rope ::**

Funny that, because as much as he showed the guts he did. I thought that was a bad night for Hatton. He could of made a much more constructive go of things had he been sat down and told to calm down by Billy.

In many respects i think they both failed to do there job.

Hatton in my opinon really didn't do as bad as some portray, he gave it what he had, tried to grapple and hold it just wasn't enough, i think no differently of hatton now than i did before the fight.

It wasn't close and PBF did spank him.

You can't even point to a single round in the fight and say definitively that Ricky won it.

It could have been a complete shutout on the cards and there would have been no complaints.

No, but there were a few close rounds, close enough to argue. Floyd didn't just walk through that fight, he earned his victory.

Besides, Floyd didn't win every round - I gave the first three rounds to Cortez, since he landed more than either fighter ;D

I haven't watched the fight a second time yet. But I remember thinking Hatton won the second round. He did well up till the 6th. PBF clearly won but it was a hard fought win, and a shutout is silly in my opinion. Also agree that PBF should have been warned about the elbows and forearms. I think that really shutdown the body work. Then Hatton just got wild and ko'd. PBF created a new combo with his left elbow followed by a right hook. He did it 3 times in a row in one round and HBO showed it on slowmo.

Anyway I think PBF got away with more fouls and the ref was all over Hatton. PBF wins either way and would have used some other tactic, but I think he got a ko because he was using the elbows and forearms masterfully. Not only was it effective to stop Hatton's offense, it was effective for creating punching space, frustrating Hatton to get wild, and helped to bust up Hatton's face. I think Hatton was alot faster than PBF anticipated and he couldn't stay away from him. Hatton was landing in the early rounds and had some good body shots before it started getting really rough. PBF holding and elbowing, Hatton twisting his arm, punching to the back of the head. Plus PBF really played it up. I thought PBF was hurt for a second when Hatton was penalized, but slow mo showed the punch didn't land. It was bound to get rough. But Hatton got more than his share of blame. PBF punches then holds, Hatton holds then punches, so Hatton gets hit coming in and then tries to punch while PBF tries to hold, then they wrestle then PBF elbows to the face while Hatton looks to body punch. The ref breaks them and tells Hatton to stop holding.... That was over and over. It's like getting in a fight on the football field. It's always the second guy that gets penalized. That's what the fight was like. PBF fouled first and then Hatton gets mad and does it back and gets in trouble. I was surprised by Floyd's mean streak. I thought he was a pretty boy, but he didn't fight like one.

yea man that woz a pretty good way of putting it,i mind sayin thru the fight to peeps around me that hatton woznt jabbing or moving his head,while Cortez woz doing a shitty job I thought Hatton clda performed better himself,i think the blood rushed to his head a little bit too much and he reverted to an instinctive head-down swarming,brawling fighting style like wot we'r all like in a fight wen u get angry...not wot shld happen with any pro,jst wot mayweather wanted

Wow there are still a lot of people who know nothing about boxing.

#1 Ricky didn't move his head very well and it caught up with him

#2 Ricky didn't attack the body effectively, I already stated in the "Keys to Victory" thread that once Ricky had Floyd on the ropes he needed to turn and get angles to land to the body and open up Floyd's defense and he never did it.


Ricky was aggressive, he threw a lot of punches, but at the expense of his defense and his stamina which cost him. Floyd was just more economical with his punches and his defense, he used less energy and did everything better than Ricky.

I know I'm a bit of a newb here and don't carry much weight, but I propose a moratorium on all PBF/Hatton/Cortez threads. I think we've got enough threads to cover most general concepts and comments concerning the fight...

Ive watched the fight a few times now and I think Hatton stopped using the jab like Oscar did against Floyd and also stopped his head movement, he was using both these in the early rounds but when Cortez took a the point off he seemed to stop. Also when Hatton was in close I think he was too close and was smothering his own work, he needed to take a step back to be able to get some leverage on them body punches. Apart from that Mayweather was just too slick.

I watched the first 6 rounds again and all i gave mayweather was round 4. I had hatton up 4 rounds to 1 after 5 and he would have won the 6th round if it weren't for the bs point deduction. Mayweather turned into the ropes and one punch landed on the back of his head. Crap call and too bad the ko occured. Mayweather didn't dominate the early rounds like everybody is saying. hatton pressed the action and landed a lot of hard shots, more than mayweather did.

Floyd was only up by one round when the knockout happened on my scorecard....and that includes the round with the point deduction and I had that round even

How does grappling an holding win fights? It might be good idea to try to land some clean,effective shots.He did terrible,looked amauterish and averaged landing just 6 punches a round,and got ko'ed.

....clean effective punching is just one of the ways rounds are scored and he did land some good shots, Floyd seemed more puffed up over the eyes than usual. Floyd came on late though....he let Ricky fight his fight for the most part and then he picked apart Ricky in the later rounds

I don't think much of Ledderman's scoring, i mean he had Marquez vs Pacquiao and Castillo vs Mayweather 1, wide scores like 115-111 terrible judging.

Agree. Since when is connecting on 18% of your punches consider a great performance? Hatton was completely out classed.
