Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
Cotto vs Mayweather?
C'mon, you gotta admit that even looking at the title gets you excited.
It's a no brainer
-
Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
It's the biggest fight out there in all of boxing right now.
-
Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
I would like to see this late in 2008 finish off the year with a bang.
I would like to see Cotto unify first against Cintron or Williams.
Cotto/Mayweather is undoubtedly the most important fight that could be
made, let's let it simmer a bit first though.
-
Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
Generally yes, Cotto vs. PBF is by far the biggest fight that can be made. But there are other fights that IMO to the hardcore fans would be as big as Cotto-PBF. In no particular order:
Calderon vs. Solis - Mouth watering fight both very skilled fighters.
Guzman vs. Pac - The waters heating up and it WILL boil.
De Leon vs. Caballero II - This shit! is looong over due.
'Baby Bull' vs. Hatton - I made a thread on this a while back and the response was great.
Pavlik vs. Abraham - Come on you know you wanna see it.
Kessler vs. Froch - Nothing would please me more in 2008 then to see this one come off.
Other fights that I would be very interested in seeing:
Arce vs. Mabuza - No one agress with me but something tells me this fight would be fucken great.
Kiko vs. Baustista - 2 young prospects with power.
Linares vs. Luevano - 2 young guys both newly crowned World Champs.
Enzo vs. Haye - I hope it comes...
Again not on par with Cotto-PBF BUT very close IMO.

Diaz/Hatton would be a classic CMM, and I hope it happens sometime soon. Pavlik/Abraham would be great, but so would Pavlik/Andrade-Kessler. And the one I want most to happen next year is Cotto/Margarito ;)

Why blow the load right away? I am saying from a business perspective, Cotto
could be the number 1 welterweight if he is unified instead of having 25% claim.
Let the tension build and the dollars will be higher. The dust is still settling
on Cotto beating Mosley and Mayweather beating Hatton.

Wow! Mick... Guzman v Pacquiao.
Nice 8)
Id love to see that. Two very different but free swinging tough nuts. It has FOTY written all over it!

If that's the case, floyd should unify the other belt and have a winner take all. That would bring the most money.

I'd be game for that. Undoubted unified 147 title and p4p title on the line, couldn't make it much bigger than that.

Shit!
I hate it when fights between two of my favorite fighters come off.
Some of examples of my fav. fighters facing each other and who I sided with:
ODLH vs. Paez-I took Paez on this one my childhood fav vs. my new fav
Collins vs. Eubank-I took Collins in this one but it sucked to see Eubank
Andrade vs. Kessler-I took Kess on this one... But Andrade was valliant
Sylvester vs. Amin-I took Amin since I had followed him closer
-
Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
I want to see Margarito fight any one of the top contenders. I think that loss to Williams really energized him and made him realize you can't fart around for 8 rounds and still win fights. I'm surprised he wasn't considered to replace Cintron against Williams in February.
-
Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
Frankly not onlly is that the best fight out there
But its the smartest fight for perhaps the two biggest names in the sport right now..
I mean face this.. Cotto is promoted great, he usually fights three times a year and The Bobfather does an amazing job of getting only the best, biggest fights for miguel
And Floyd is undoubtedly P4P king, Hes had a hell of a year this year, he says he wants a vacation , and he will take it.. So come the latter months into 2008 miguel cotto might have fought upto two fights..
I would bet money that one of those fights will be margarito, who i previously treat as a huge threat to miguel..
At this point in time, Miguel haven shown his boxing skill and seemingly newly aquired whiskers against shane mosely its still a good name on the record, a hard fight but im more confident of a cotto win.. perhaps he fights another fight probably a unification with cintron or williams..
Cotto frankly has all the tools to unify the three belts..
And Mayweather is on his break, but also needs to put that last spin on his legacy, Manny steward and the rest still say hes not fighting the legit welter champs...
So what better a scenario but for a unification to force floyd to face cotto after cotto having proved he may even be a bigger star then floyd..
The talk would be all cotto and floyd would get his jealous on.. No doubt, then he would want cotto and the money he brings with him ;) :)

I hear ya'. Hatton/Mayweather was tough for me as I am a big fan of both, but I knew who would win so it ook the sting out of it a bit. I like Cotto, but Tony is one of my top 5 favorites, and I'd root for him to win, and think he would. A tough one for me to watch was Lewis/Golota ;D But Lewis is my fvorite all time, so oh well :-\......... ;D

CC...very good post and I agree that he should have gotten the rematch in Feb.
If anybody deserves it, it is him for showing such rare class and not letting them just take belt from him and fighting Paul while many others would have taken more money and more of a chance to open some doors by fighting Cotto.

Right now i think you are right on the money that is the fight that most of us would like to see, I like both guys and would hate to see either of them loose.

Cotto vs. Margarito for me. That would have fight of the decade written all over it ;D

I would like that fight too but would definitely want Cotto vs floyd first because I like the way speedy boxers bring out the best boxer in Cotto and it would put 2 undefeated guys who have a real chance at winning.
Cotto vs Margarito would likely be a brawl that would take a lot out of both guys and they would probably never be the same again. So I would prefer for both to finish their other orders of business first before they become damaged.

Kelly Joe would be a good entertaining fight.
I reckon Floyd has to fight either Williams or Maragrito first, he doesn't need to prove it to me or most knowledgable fans, it's just that I can see the threads now if Floyd beat Cotto, it'll be utter tosh like he's a blown up light-welter who hasn't been tested against the genuine gig guys of the division. If he beats either then that can be avoided, as well as build up the main event.

Took the fights right out of my head. CC! I could see the punchlines too. These fight would be too easy to sell!
Marquez vs Pacuquio: #2 and #3 pound-for-pound
Pavlik vs Calzaghe: Undefeated vs Undefeated
Diaz vs Hatton: "Swarming with activity" vs "swarming with pressure"
Guzman vs Valero: "Stop bitching about being ducked and beat more people" vs "stop bitching about now being able to fight in america" (I do feel like this fight will only be big in the boxing community. Outside those people, no one will know who they are)
Williams vs Mayweather: phenom vs genuis
Another thing...Margarito vs Floyd?! Cmon! Williams took care of Margarito handily. Floyd would do the same.
-
Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
***Correction my last post said "stop bitching about now being able to fight in america" i meant "stop bitching about NOT being able to fight in america

Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
I'm not so sure that Cotto is ready yet. There's a case to be made that he lost to Mosley. I felt he won or it was a draw, but not everyone saw it that way. What would Miguel do so damn differnt from all the others? Yeah, he is bigger, and has more power than Hatton, but guess what? He's not as fast. He can't close the distance like Hatton can. He does have a better jab than Hatton though.
-

I'm not sure I want to see anyone fight Mayweather any more
Is a bit like watching Schumacher racing, he's so good that there's no contest

Whilst I'd love to see all of these fights none of them come even remotely close to Cotto Mayweather imo.
It's the flat out biggest, most essential matchup in boxing right now. I actually hope we don't see it in 2008 though. I really want Cotto to beat Williams, maybe Margarito, Oscar or Mosely again just to really solidfy his claim as the ultimate challenger to Floyd's crown.
Then let Floyd come out of retirement to fight him and finally we have a fight for the ages worthy or Duran Leonard, Hagler Hearns etc.
-
Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
I agree with Donny. All fights take a back seat to Rafael Marquez-Israel Vazquez 3.

Cotto DelaHoya is a way way way better fight. Forget Mayweather he wan'ts to retire. Let him retire a nobody.

Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
I have a feeling everyone is a little too anxious for this fight to happen for all the wrong reasons. Miguel Cotto is not ready for Floyd quite yet. Miguel has improved greatly over the years, he has improved greatly since even fighting Paul Malinaggi. He just has not improved enough.
There needs a lot of work on his defense before this fight is even though of. Shane Mosley is fast but Shane is past his best. A lot of people are using the fact Cotto beat Mosley as a measuring stick on how he would deal with Floyd's speed, except it is not just the speed that is a factor. Pinpoint accuracy is one of the biggest weapons in Weather's arsenal.
I would put Miguel as the best welterweight in the division right now behind Floyd Mayweather just not in Floyds league quite yet. I am a big supporter of Cotto and I would hate to see him have a setback before he is ready

Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
I don't think Floyd will fight again until June/July next year so i see Cotto fighting someone before that, then it's on for sure. PBF is the money man and he knows a Cotto fight will bring Mega bucks, it will only be a matter of time and 2008 is the year it will happen.

If that's the case, there's a case to be made that DLH beat floyd. floyd got a split while Cotto won unanimous against a better and more active fighter.
BTW, I don't think DLH beat floyd at all. I just had to make that point because you have guys that love or hate a fighter so much that they don't see fights with clear vision.

Oh come on thats not comparable, Mayweather easily beat Oscar De La Hoya, plus the punch stats were a landslide for Mayweather.
Cotto vs Mosley is very debatable i had Mosley vs Cotto a draw, Mosley come on very strong in the later rounds, punch stats had them landing the same amount of punches it was very close fight.

That's your opinion and your entitled to it but the fact remains that Cotto beat a guy who beat DLH twice and was far more active and sharp on fight night than Oscar as evidenced by DLH fighting way out of character and wailing away like we've never seen him do.
Those are facts and not opinions.

How can it possibly build up with floyd sitting on his a**? I don't want to hear that Cotto beat him because he had a year or 2 layoff.
They are both coming off big victories one month apart and and there is no better time to start negotiations. If it doesn't happen it's because floyd is ducking, plain and simple.
I thought you guys were boxing fans. What difference does it make to you if it builds up to more money for them later? You're not gonna see a dime of that.
We're the ones paying for the PPV so we should be the ones demanding for our faves to fight the biggest possible fights to remove all doubt about who's the best.
It seems like the floyd fans in here are scared to see their guy take chances. I'm a fan of Cotto and would want and expect nothing less than him fighting the best out there to show what he's made of.

Just because Cotto beat a guy (Mosley) that beat De La Hoya who lost to Mayweather does not mean Cotto can take Mayweather any easier than the next guy. There is no proof to linear match-ups being factors to determine fights.
For example: With that logic that means Morales is better than Barrera because he beat Junior Jones OR Barrera is better than Morales because he won the trilogy so Morales wouldn't be able to beat Pacquiao OR Roberto Duran is better than Tommy Hearns because Duran beat Leonard.
But what happened was Morales lost the trilogy against Barrera even thought he beat Junior Jones, Morales beat Pacquiao even though he lost to Barrera who lost to Pacquiao, and Duran beat Leonard who beat Hearns but Duran sure didn't beat Hearns.

He does have a better jab than Hatton though.

I completely understand. What I'm saying is that: why is it a big deal that floyd beat DLH on not that big a deal that Cotto beat Shane? And again, Shane was still very active while DLH had one fight in about three years and it was against a guy with zero defence.
The only difference is that floyd has a big mouth and Cotto does not. floyd makes his wins sound bigger than they are and people believe it. Cotto does all his talking with his fists.
