The one big problem with Joan Guzman

Dude gets too wide and wild with his shots some times.

He's one of my favorite fighters but this is one of the things that seperates him from a guy like Floyd Mayweather. Now it can be exciting, see the first round of the Barrios fight, the second round of the Soto fight where he was just winging shots but they're too wide, even though his quickness usually lets him get away with it he could get caught with a shorter left hook when he's doing that.

When he's countering with straight right hands and straighter left hooks he's damn good.

Well that and his stamina seems a bit iffy at times. So maybe two problems. ;D The lack of power might be a bit of a problem but you can tell he hits hard enough to get people's attention.

The main problem I have is his lack of power. The wide shots etc. is simply a bad habit of becoming unbridled at times. Under control, Joan has excellent technical skills that not too many out there have today. If he had the power, he would easily defeat someone like Diaz at 135.

Well I think he hits hard enough to get respect but the main thing is there's not a whole lot he can do about the power.

He could maybe do something about the wide shots although he is 31 so if he hasn't fixed it yet who knows.

He was always of a hands low and good defensive style but now he gets trained by floyd srhes just bieng trained to fight like floyd, And lord knows after having so many fights, switching trainers and switching up your style like that 9 times out of 10 it just doesnt work..

Dont get me wrong.. Floyd sr has sharpened him up nice, But Joan needs to remember he isnt a mayweather in case hes doing all that shit that is still fairly new to him and gets chinned ..

I wouldn't say its all new, he's been doing the shoulder roll and stuff like that for a while, remember him doing it in the Terdsak Jaendaeng fight, not too much difference between then and now.

He just gets too out of control at times, luckily he seems to have a good chin but you never know how long that will hold up.

And I'm not saying he only has one problem, that's the one that just jumps out to me as something that he shouldn't be doing. Not all that much he can do about the power.

Does anybody feel Guzman would beat Arthur ???

I haven't seen Arthur's last few fights but from what I've seen Guzman would be way too quick for him.

Erm,what are you talking about? Guzman has used a shoulder roll for a while now,Mayweather Senior just sharpened it and and has him use more lateral movement.Shoulder roll aside,I don't really see how else he fights like Floyd.

Oumafan,I agree,I said it after the Soto fight,it was the 1 thing that stuck out,when he trades,he swings very widly,maybe because he gets an adrenaline rush.I was surprised and dissappointed Soto didnt land a clean punch on him when Guzman was swinging for the fences. When he is under control,using the shoulder roll and fast hands,he is a tough customer.

I used to think he had a lack of power at the weight class but I think he punches hard enough to get an opponents respect,and he certainly knows how to handle pressure fighters,few bring the heat Jorge Barrios or Humberto Soto do and he handled both with relative ease imo.

He's not as good defensively, partly cause he's less defensive, his punching technique isn't as good, his conditioning, work ethic, etc, all isn't as good. He fights a bit like him but that doesn't mean he's as good. He is damn good though and a danger to any 130 pounder in the world.

What im saying is sure sharpen him but dont change him and even the minor changes from when sr began with joan could cause big problems..

If you said to Roy Jones jr 30 or so fights in..Oh roy you gotta start using that jab and do this and do that.. They'll do that a couple rounds.. Maybe forget it for a bit..swtch here switch there.. and it either doesnt work that way or just causes confusion that late in a fighters career..

Myabe because almost everytime a fighter is percieved as a serious threat to their beloved Manny,they attempt to demean that opponent knowing that either Manny won't fight him or to make themselves feel better?Valero,Soto,Marquez,Morales,and now Guzman.All at one stage or another ridiculed by Manny fans for 1 reason or another,but usually just on blind following of Manny ;D ;D ;D

I see what you are saying but Joan seems to be a flexible guy firstly and secondly,whatever changes Floyd Senior made,were made in Guzmans biggest fight of his career and not only did he win but he looked good whilst doing it. So I don't think it was that risky bro.

All im saying is he ain't nothing like floyd. silly haters pac isn't the topic. but anyways guzman isn't that big of a threat, how will he outbox pac for 12 rounds if by 9th he'll gas out and slow down. compare that to the punches pac will have had already dish out to guzmans body. ;D So anybody who thinks that Guzman is even a threat is a "silly hater" ??? So defensive. Actually the only time I've ever rooted against Pac was in the MAB fights but I guess that means I'm a hater.

And Guzman is 31, JMM's 34, Morales was 30 last time out, MAB was 33. And considering Guzman's been in less wars than those guys, especially MAB and Morales, I don't see how his age really affects his viability as a threat to Pac.

Yeah, i second that. Guzman is one of my Fav fighters and i must admit that mode he gets into only makes me like him more :D

I think he could rule 130 if he gets the chance. Id maybe forget about lightweight though... I never understood why he wanted to fight Katsidis ???

I noticed that as well all the Pac fans seem to hate Guzman, now just think to yourself for a minute. Why would they hate Guzman ?? it couldn't be that they see Guzman as a major threat to there boy Pacquiao is it ?? :)
