Should Hatton get a new trainer?
Read in todays Sun newspaper in Frank Warrens part that he think Hatton should ditch Billy Graham and find a new trainer.
Any thoughts????
Re: Should Hatton get a new trainer?
Good topic but I wouldn't listen to Warren on it. he's got sour grapes now and hates Billy. I think that there's no need for a new trainer at this stage - it could do more harm than good. It think they need to sit down and seriously, seriously look at theor tactics since the Oliveira fight. Just because they worked for Tszyu and he was so good didn't mean that they were necessarily the way forward. He was devestationg in the Stewart and mainly the Oliveira fight. And remember they were the fights that got him the title shot in the first place. Better defence, head movement, accuraccy, brilliant footwork. These things need to be brought back in in conjuction with his new style. More of the old style though.

It could of course be the fact that when Hatton went up in class he was not able to do the same things to the better fighters.

Porkypara did he say anything about what he felt towards Ricky's performance etc as he's just so biased Frank it's unreal.

Off the top of my head I think he said that the tactics Graham wanted Hatton to use were wrong and I think he mentioned the one of the HBO commontators said Grahams work in the courner was inept or words to that effect.

This is painful for me to admit, especially because I know the only reason Warren said it was sour grapes
But he's right
There needed to be a plan B
Its obvious there wasnt one

What plan B could Hatton have. ???
He did not have the skills to out box FM so he had to try and force the fight.
Re: Should Hatton get a new trainer?
Hatton should of ditched Graham and his crocked ass finger years ago. I'm surprised Hatton made as far as he did with that clown in his corner.
Re: Should Hatton get a new trainer?
I don't rated him at all... he's had his head stuck in the hype around Hatton for a while from what I can see... Never seen any method in what he does.
Re: Should Hatton get a new trainer?
does Graham have any amateur boxers in his gym or is it only pros?
Re: Should Hatton get a new trainer?
Hatton couldn't have fought a better fight, he just has no business trying to fight any solid welterweight, let alone Floyd Mayweather Jr. He was a lot more competitive than I thought he'd ever be, but he was outclassed by a fighter that was too big, too strong, too accurate, too elusive, too EVERYTHING. It wouldn't have mattered who Hatton had in the corner, the result would have not been any better................ if anything, it would have been even worse.
Re: Should Hatton get a new trainer?
I made a thread last week about Hatton and what would he have been like had he been trained by another guy. Most that responded said that Hatton/Graham fit good as a team and Billy brought out the best of Ricky. Or it wouldn't have made a difference if Ricky was trained by someone else. Wonder if that is the same pattern of thought after his devastating loss? :-\ Probably too late now in his career, as he is set in his ways most likely.

Exactly.......
It kinda reminds me of how some people were making a big deal when Delahoya had Freddy Roach in his corner. It really doesn't matter when you're that far along in your career and you're that established.

Right.........kind of the old adage of not being able to teach an old dog new tricks. It wouldn't have mattered with Ricky IMO. He should have payed Floyd Sr. to train him  Maybe he would have been forewarned about that check hook that ran him face 1st into the pole :-\
Re: Should Hatton get a new trainer?
I don't think so.
i am interested to hear what HBO were saying about the corner work.
to be honest most of the time i think the conrner work seems spot on.
to me its too late in hattons career to make changes.
he lost to the p4p number 1 fighter in the world mainly because the number 1 p4p fighter in the world is so good its unreal.

just dug the paper out of the bin.
Heres a small quote from it by Warren
"Graham is one of those who takes credit for the wins and not responsibility for the losses.Hatton should ditch him"
"Egotistical Graham said he was eagare to pit his witts against the best trainers inn the world. He was compleatly outwitted. The tactics were awful."
It was Manny Steward who it said "...was fiercely critical of the corner work by Graham...".That was in an artical by Pat Sheehan not Warren I must point out.
Re: Should Hatton get a new trainer?
Interestingly I heard a strong rumour a few years ago maybe 4, that Rickys dad wanted Billy out and Frank was the one to who talked him out of the idea funny old game.

What was the reason?
Re: Should Hatton get a new trainer?
Well i think hatton weakness is a guy that boxes well hence PBF boxes very well and there no way on god green earth Hatton was going to win. I also think that PM style will cause major problems to Hatton i mean PM took Cotto shots and he boxes well using angles and a very quick jab. I give PM a good chance at beating hatton i think PM is the new guy at 140 only time will tell but i think he is the man now.
