Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
Have no idea how influential his lawyer is, or how correct this is ???
from fightnews.com
Early indications in the direction of Ricky Hatton's career were revealed by his lawyer Gareth Williams to the London Telegraph. According to Williams, "The Hitman" will likely defend his IBO belt in the UK then face IBF junior welterweight champion Paul Malignaggi at Madison Square Garden later in the year. Williams also stated that Hatton will not face hated rival WBC super lightweight champion Junior Witter. "Ricky will never fight Junior Witter, as long as he keeps attacking him in public," he is quoted as saying.

Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
Defend his IBO gainst whom? A confidence Builder?
A fight against Paulie isn't a bad thing, in fact i see it as a good step back up to the top for Ricky.
-
Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
I hope its not a warm up fight against a bum.Ricky said last year that he wanted only a few more fights so it would be a waste of time having a warm up fight unless he has been mentally scared by mayweather defeat.
-
Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
So what is Witter supposed to do; sit there and be meek and quiet and hope Ricky "The HitPostMan" Hatton will give him a shot? Mayweather gave Ricky his shot; give Witter his. And if he fights Paulie in the States then he will lose, as they will just get Cortez to ref the fight and PM will box Hatton around the ring IMO. I love Ricky, but he needs to fight Witter in U.K. then lure PM over there somehow.

Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
If witter takes Ree's or another title/big name then Ricky will have to fight him.
-
Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
Seems pretty sensible to me.
So long as the IBO defence isn't against a complete bum.
A fight with Torres would be the most exciting IMO.
Don't blame him for not fighting Witter. Why give Witter his biggest payday when all he has done is publicly slag him off for the last 7 years? Sure he could shut Witter up but apart from that there aint much else in it for him. If he wins it becomes 'so what?' and if he loses he's basically fucked.
Let's face it, nobody looks good against Witter mainly because of how unorthadox he is. It's not a fight you need when you have just been ko'd.

Torres Hatton would be a cracking fight.

Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
I can't beleive how blatant Hattons ducking of Witter is!

Why would Hatton duck Witter?
He's a bigger stronger fighter, who's got more expierience, more physicality and more ability???

Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
In your opinion witter has never been stopped and is a great counter puncher! There is no doubt witter is ranked the second best in division only below Hatton there is no reason for Hatton to not fight him.
Hatton won't take the risk though because there is not enough money.

In my opinion?
What?
Now one thing we do agree on, there is not enough money. One thing Junior will do; he will make Ricky look horrible with his switch hitting style. So why go through that after getting Ko'd in his last fight, if he's not going to get paid well?
Why bother to get himself a whole new group odf detractors without being compensated financially?

Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
I must admit im sick of the Witter - Hatton debate
even tho there are better money fights out there for Ricky i just wish they would get it on , and have done with it.
IF BOTH SO CONFIDENT LETS HAVE WINNER TAKES ALL !!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
Well I already said this, but Ricky got his shot at Floyd, supposedly because of him being vocal and saying Floyd was a bore after his Castillo win. So he shouldn't be upset and tell Witter he can't get a fight because he's been slaggin him off. Too bad; if he is talking sh#t than beat his a##. If Witter legitimately deserves a shot, give it to him.
And I wonder if Ricky still thinks Floyd is boring to watch? If Ricky wants to see how exciting Floyd can be he should watch his last fight where he used Ricky as a battering ram

Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
Hatton's excuse for not fighting Witter is pathetic.
The longer this shit goes on the more it looks like they NEVER fancied the Witter fight.
-
Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
Im thinking the same way now. They're still trotting out the 'we wont let Witter get rich off Ricks back' line
And I thought it wasn't about the money ???
If its about the challenge fight the second best guy in the division.
-
Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
I dont know why people dont "get" this
Hatton is a man of principle and believes in not disrespecting other fighters - throughout the build up to Mayweather and Catillo (and every other fight) he has constantly praised his opponents abilities
He believes it is the noble art and that professionals should respect each other for what is a highly dangerous profession, where thousands try and few suceed
That is the reason he will not fight Witter - becasue he insulted him beyond all reasonableness (and secondary to that is that Witter has no fans/ brings no money to the table)
Honestly if someone had insulted YOU, would you then give them the biggest payday of their life - its nonsensical
-
Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
Well Ricky insulted Floyd after the Castillo fight, and he got his big money shot for it. Granted, he has always shown Floyd respect as far as his abilities, but saying that Floyd was a boring fighter was insulting. Unfortunately almost everyone is disrespectful to their peers these days. It is b.s. like you said, but nonetheless is happens almost every fight.

Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
From an American's point of view, it would seem that an all British match up of Hatton-Witter would be a natural. Unless Witter is capable of doing things like outbox Ricky.

Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
Hatton not facing witter for money and other reasons makes a little sense but the lawyer saying ("Ricky will never fight Junior Witter, as long as he keeps attacking him in public," he is quoted as saying.) is really layla ali-ish. I hope that isn't really what he said if so i would be really really surprised. He makes 24/7 with one fighter and then says stop calling me names to another fighter is just really strange. What more of a reason do you have other than money i guess to fight another fighter. Say it aint so ricky.

You are right Ricky is ducking Witter big time, but it is more than that he is ducking him FOR ALL TIME, simply because HE DOESNT LIKE HIM - Ricky is the champ, he can choose - what part of that dont you understand?

Fuck knows what build-up you were watcing?
Until knocking Ricky out Floyd never aimed anything but INSULTS towards him (for the past couple of years).
We were led to believe the fight happened because Floyd got pissed-off with Ricky keep INSULTING him calling a "boring fighter" etc
Would it have been OK for Floyd to say - "I'm not giving Hatton his biggest ever payday, he hurts my feelings keep insulting me?"
Hattons situation with Floyd and his stance towards Witter just makes him look a total hypocrite.

If floyd or anyone even remotely connected to his camp (even the guy at the 24 hour he works at floking towels) said such a thing you would never hear the end of it. Not liking someone isn't a reason to avoid giving him his shot, the governing bodies should be there to prevent this type of thing. You don't like him fine don't invite him over for new years but ducking and grabbing your ball running inside your house saying my mom said we can't play anymore is a shame. I don't know the whole story only what i've read so i hope this isn't really the case.

Frankly gavin rees is perfect
For a confidence builder..I can name at least five guys who would give him ten times a tougher fight then rees and rees holds a world title..Everyone wins lol

Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
Well god Ricky is fighting Paulie and i think Paulie is worse style for Ricky i see Pualie boxing Hatton to a UD and for Hatton to come to the us. I mean telll you the truth i would liek to see Witter to fight Paulie yet again think Paulie will be boxing his ears off. Paulie may have fists of feather but he has a chin of steel and a heart to go with it not to mention good boxing skills speed, good footwork and a very nice jab as well.

WEll VD said it in a kind of rude way but he is right but i think Hatton win this fight. Then lose buy a close UD to PM and fight Witter then have Oscar give him abig payday and Hatton while proably be knocked into retirement in that fight but get alot of money in the process.

True unfortunately.
Ricky's next fight may well be here in Ireland, against a "World Ranked" opponenet. Meaning he's taking a confidence bosster before steeping up gain.
Ricky's dad also mentioned that Ricky is a"shadow of himself"

Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
I really wish Hatton and Witter would get it on. Witter has been going on about it for ages now and the fight should just happen.
It would be a huge fight in the UK would it not? Ok so US PPV would not get that excited because Witter is not a HUge name but as far as the UK scene goes this fight really should happen. I for one would love to see it.

I'd be concerned about that. Remember before the Urango fight Ricky caught a cold and it drained him? Well imagine if he goes over there and catches Irish? ;D

Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
Yeah god!
Staggering round the place in a Guiness induced stupor..."Witter what the fuck are you looking at???"
-
Re: Hatton's future according to his lawyer-Malignaggi in 2008, no Witter fight
Hatton's back down to LW, only two genuine opponents for him there, Paulie and Junior, if he wants leave a legacy in the division he has to fight both. I seriously doubt Hatton will get more money to fight Paulie than Junior.
Not wanting fight someone because you don't like him is THE lamest excuse in history, that should be THE reason to fight someone. At the moment, I don't think RH is ducking him, I reckon Ricky needs a confidence builder as well first before fighting someone awkward like Junior or Paulie, I'd like to see him against Torres as Rees is unlikely due to his promoter.
But if Ricky retires in a couple years time having fought say 3 or 4 LW's without facing Witter, than he will have ducked him, and that will be an undeniable FACT, but till that happens I'm going to wait and see.
