Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
Ricky Hattons father has said that Ricky will fight twice in 2008 and 3 times in 2009 and there could still be more to come after that!
He also stated that Ricky will not be fighting Witter next but had not ruled the fight out as a possibility in the future.
Looks to me like Ricky means buisness and is far from finished..
-
Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
He said he'll be fighting a world ranked opponent next.
I reckon that translates to Ricky fighting a guy in the top ten, who's not a threat but a respectable confidence booster.
In another thread i said perhaps Juan Lazcano, Holt or Demetrius Hopkins???

Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
If Hatton ever signs to fight Witter and i see them in the ring fighting i will eat my trousers.
-
Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
i would like to see him fight paulie or witter
-
Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
i think he should fight Ree's, he gains a belt and more importantly some confidence
-
Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
Well this is who i want him to fight in his next 5 fights.
First he should fight Gavin Rees because thats easy fight for Hatton, plus he gets a World Title and confidence back. Then Junior Witter, Paul Malignaggi, Ricardo Torres, Demetrius Hopkins.

Yeah pretty similar for me.
1)Juan Lazcano
2)Junior Witter
3)Paulie Malignaggi
4)Gavin Rees
5)Ricardo Torres

Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
i agree wit the first three fights but i mean after that he's got to go for broke in my eye's.. If he really wants his legacy to be all it can be he gona have to think about challenging another huge name, be it Cotto/ rematch Mayweather etc..

Maybe his legacy is as the best Light Welter of all time tho???
Shutting out the division should grant him that if he performs.
His legacy will be shaped by his performances now rather than names (although I think the names have to be good.)

Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
He dosn't need to go anywere he should stick to 140...and noone would hold it against him...look at Bob Foster.Awsome Light heavy, Far as i know considered one of the greats...couldn't hang with the heavy's,but who holds it against him?

Sorry bro but the first guy that rees fights is taking that title off of him.. And if hatton wants to fight twice next year then somehow that indicates that rees is either still champion in 2009 or is of some worth because he has done something.. Which niether is happening.. Personally i think if lazcano was to be fought also it would be in america and ricky would want it televised.. However i dont think hbo would pay for that fight.. Im not sure..
I would say
1. Rees - Take the title and have a very quick easy match
2/3. I'd like to say fight witter cos i know he would beat witter and get him out the way and rack up another title.. But yet at the same time i also believe that paulie will come first for the money and he doesnt want to seem like he is running from the american fight game ..
Either way if he was to fight witter.. And only wish to fight twice in '08 then the paulie fight would have to wait til '09 and i cant see it happening so late..
4. Maybe torres or whoever beats torres cos the guy took a fight with morua who is not on world level and had just been beaten by witter so hes not fighting the best.. Got a bit of a break with kendal holt in his home country.. hes tough but not good enough to hold onto the title.. I think a harder and bigger fight is kendal holt for ricky .. kendal will win a rematch , hopefully it will be on mutual or us ground and ricky has a bigger fight on his hands ..
I also have a feeling Dhop wont be a big fight for ricky come the time he gets round to him.. He robbed forbes..If forbes ever gets a rematch he'll hopefully get a just decision and if ricky doesnt fight malignaggi then Dhop probably will cos Dhop has been talking shit for a while and paulie will embarrass him

Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
I think Hatton shold fight Witter NOW and stop bloody avoiding him!!!
Give Witter he dues he has only lost to a prime Zab Judah and he was very young and inexperienced at the time.
Witter is an exciting knock out artist and that fight would be big enough to draw alot o money in.
TAKE THE BLOODY FIGHT RICKY AND STOP RUNNING
By the way I've always said Witter would KO Hatton

I agree but enzo said that Rees was off the table for Hatton.
I think Rees will defend a couple of time against a few part timers to make a bit of dosh first.

It doesn't have to be. There aren't really the big names at 140 they're up at 147 and if you want to secure your legacy it seems that nowadays you have to fight the names and that means moving up.

He's fought some big names already.
I feel cleaning out a division with some well known if not super names such as Malignaggi and witter (if done in an impressive fashion) would be enough.

Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
He'll probably fight someone he's been linked with in the past
Forbes
N'dou
you heard it here first.

He is nowhere near big enough to compete at 147.

Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
i suppose if Juan Diaz moved up that would be a real world class operator on his record, and lets not forget in a couple of years time Amir Kahn could be top 10 p4p
-
Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
Ok here's the 5 I'd like to see
1) D-Hop (AKA tune-up) (In USA)
2) Malignaggi (In USA)
3) Witter (In UK)
4) Torres (In UK)
5) Lamont Peterson (In UK) by the end of 2009 He will be knocking at the elites door at 140
Planning this far ahead is always silly though. Boxers should only be looking at the next fight.
I don't like Lazcano as an option he is getting very old for 140 and won't do anything for Ricky's legacy (especially after Castillo)
Rees is out of the picture apparently.
-
Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
Hatton wont ever face Witter and I dont think he should, Junior would box rings round him and maybe stop him, the only way I see Ricky fighting Witter is if when Ricky loses next and Witter still has a title that Ricky takes it as a last chance money maker.
Enzo Calzaghe has said he wont let Rees take on Ricky next, Paulie is a good boxer but he has been beaten
What I would like to see is Witter move up and fight Cotto, he would pierce his guard and not throw looping shots over his head like Mosely, Junior would handle welter much better than Ricky, at light welter Ricky has a big strength advantage over everyone but at welter hes just another brawler
Id also like Witters chances against Floyd, the way Ricky fought Floyd suited Mayweather down to the ground, if he had actualy thrown some more shots he could have done better, i dont see Junior getting caught anywhere near as often, you would also have never seen anyone hit Mayweather as often as Junior would
I like Ricky but unless he has a strength advantage, any boxer will beat him, he has limitations
-
Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
I would much rather see him fight Juan Diaz or Pacquiao than any of these jokers at 140. I know those guys are smaller, but those would be much more interesting and competitive fights, IMO. Witter might give him some trouble, but it would be horrible to watch. Malinaggi is really the only fight I'd care to watch at 140.

If he beats Witter and Paulie he will have done a lot, but after that, if he wants to challenge himself he should probably go after a name like Cotto IMO, not every fight you take should be one where you're expected to win comfortably.
It does seem like he hopes to be undisputed in the LW division over the next year and wait for Juan to move up, but IMO that's not a fight that would secure his legacy since he will have a significant physical advantage over a fighter with a similar style to himself, he'd have more to lose than to gain from a fight like that.

Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
who ever ricky fights next has to be a confidence booster, and then take a top fight i think fighters are secretly wounded mentally after there first defeat and need one fight of re-assurence,i do agree a fight with witter would be very interesting,

At the end of the day - at least when we are trying to plan 2 years ahead - the biggest UK fight by far for Hatton is not Witter, and most definetely not Rees. It is Amir Khan. That's the truth, even if it seem ludicrous to speculate in a Hatton-Khan meeting right now.
But - and this is my point - fighting Witter, Rees and then fight or not fight Khan, Hatton will go down as a very good fighter in England. Chris Eubank-like perhaps? But he will not be remembered on the world stage as a great, if he ends his areer by fighting 'merely' domestic opponents. So on to the world, Mr Hatton!
(And the likes of Lazcano does not secure his legacy either - Malignaggi and Torres more so though).
-
Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
How can they plan this far ahead ? im a Ricky fan but what happens if heaven forbid one of these fringe contenders stops Ricky? and for me the witter fight is a pick em very close match up Junior is a lot better than people give him credit for. For Gods sake team Hatton take it one fight at a time and see where it takes you.
Good luck whatever happens Rick. ;D

Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
Well Witter i do not know much of all i know is that he got blasted by Juhda and that is about it. Then there is Dhop i not sure how good he is still a young fighter. Then there is Pauli who i know i sound like a broken record but if he boxes and moves and jabs he will beat Hatton in a ud and i bet PM.

Juan Lazcano is a possible confidence booster that has been deemed necessary by all of Ricky's confedantes.
At the moment Amir is nothing. Ricky could well be retired by the time that he is even ready to head to world stages at Lightweight.
-
Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
Seems like a good plan for Ricky. Five and out at age of 31/32.
Easy one to start with - he deserves that to be fair. I did see one quote about about him fighting in Ireland next time out ?
A Witter fight needs to happen. British boxing is on a hight at the moment and - as long as they both keep winning - it would be a massive summer stadium fight. Doubt it could generate the level of interest Benn - Eubank did across the nation but it would be right up there and would certainly generate the ££££ whioch both would find difficult to turn down. Was Benn v Eubank on terrestrial tv ? I really can't remember
-
Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
Witter has nothing on Benn/Eubank though, that's the problem for him.
-
Re: Official- Hatton to fight 5 more times
I think he will fight either Rees or Kotelnik next....depending on who wins
Then i think it will be onto someone like Forbes or Torres
Then he'l prob go for Paulie, Juan Diaz and possibly Pac in 09.
