Yeah, I could see Nady saluting him once he threw him on the stool. And Cortez would take a point for excessive holding :lolhaha:

Re: Sugar Ray Robinson Welterweight fight Videos....
He was something special, but those double, tripple left hooks would be easy to block. Its more his stiff jab counter left hook, and hidden right cross that you have to worry about ;D.. I would still be interested how he would do against a good jabber because Robinson didn't really use any defense except footwork.

Re: Sugar Ray Robinson Welterweight fight Videos....
I don't know if its the quality of the film or what, but I don't think I've ever seen a fighter throw punches that quickly. That was impressive.

Re: Sugar Ray Robinson Welterweight fight Videos....
For those who have never seen 'Bright Lights, Dark Shadows' I'd strongly recommend you either look for it online and or buy it.
Great documentary. :)

179 guys out there will disagree with you...Including a fair amount of HOF fighters

That was when he was at his best and according to a recent documentary on the man, none were recorded. So this clip is rare, rare, rare. ;D

Spot on Welsh some great footage in that doc.

Re: Sugar Ray Robinson Welterweight fight Videos....
Just checked and this fight wasn't at Welterweight. Robinson weighted 156½ while Van Dam was the Dutch Middleweight Champion.
So still no clips of Robinson at his Greatest in the Welterweight division exist. :(

IT was wrong, it obviously was recorded or these clips wouldn't have been made, I've seen a few of his fights on a project real that my friend bought from a guy who used to run a cinema back when in New York.

Re: Sugar Ray Robinson Welterweight fight Videos....
MY bad the cinema guy was from here,Edmonton.

Like Lamotta, or Turpin? or Fulmer, wow what great fighters... they are definitely the fastest, strongest, most technical fighters I've ever seen... not. They were tough, but there were some guys at Welterweight who could box and gave Robinson a hell of a time.

ACtually by that time they still had problems capturing fast movements so it appears a little faster than normal, but young Roy JOnes Jr. threw lefts hook like that, and Meldrick Taylor, Ray Leonard, and Shane Mosley could all throw combinations like that as well.

As usual when someone comes up with a good counter point to one of your post you try to throw it off track...where did anyone say noone ever gave Robinson trouble?...Im sorry where was that?.....Stop looking on the post in the thread because no one said that it was just another case of Taeth changing words around to fit what he wants them to....
I think the whole point was you stated that Robinsons hook would be useless against a good jabber...and the reply was 179 (it is actually 173 my mistake)...would disagree...so where does LaMotta or anyone specific come in?...
By the way...I have a 6yr old that says something then follows it up with....Not...so grow up and post again when you don't need your nose wiped and diapers changed

Yeah, that's kinda what I figured. I've never actually seen a M. Taylor fight unfortunately, but I'll have to check him out.

You've missed the point completely. Welterweight fights of Sugar Rays don't exist the fight shown in this clip was not a Welterweight fight.

Me grow up? Your the one who flew off the handle lol, I didn't know which part of my comment you said 179 guys disagree with his defence? I brought Lamotta, Turpin, and Fulmer into it because they all hit Robinson pretty easily. Secondly, there was no correlation between me saying throwing those three hooks wouldn't be effective against somebody with good defence and me saying I would like to see how Robinson does against a good jabbing boxer like Leonard. What I was saying is because Robinson didn't really use his hands for defense almost at all I wonder how he would do against somebody like Leonard who used his hands to block shots and he was as quick as Robinson. Also last but not least you didn't read the other part of what I wrote because you lost your temper and didn't bother to read... I said that Robinson's jab, cross and counter left hook, off his opponents jab usually, were his money punches. Maybe you should chill out, I am not trying to just come in and insult you, but your taking this way too personally, and you act like its a sin for people to share their own opinion. If you don't feel like arguing then ignore me or stfu and take it like a man.

Re: Sugar Ray Robinson Welterweight fight Videos....
LMAO! Sugar hit him, knocked him down and then leap frogged him.
He sure does look a lot like Shane Mosley up there or should I say Shane reminds me of Robinson.
LOL at Luke van dam? His corner had to call a tow truck to haul him back to his corner. At first I thought that was the ref helping him back.
Great vid :)

No you never said you wonder how Robinson would do against someone with good defense...you said they would be easy to block,,,then you mentioned a good jabber etc...nothinng about how would they do against a guy with good defense.....
then you said the comments about Turpin, LaMotta and Fulmer sarcastic....like Ray was lucky against bums like that...BTW are HOF fighters so they must be pretty decent huh?.....then threw in a NOT...like a little kid....
The part about 173 not 179 was me correcting myself in the first post....so have a good day

Re: Sugar Ray Robinson Welterweight fight Videos....
Look Teath has his way of things sometimes i do not agree with him but it is just a opionin so who cares really. SRR is the welter with SRL following him and then he is under Monzon, Hagler and Bernard in the Middlewieght he gets his do also as the best pound for pound he gets his respect.

Under Bernard Hopkins - no chance. The nearest Bernard fought to Sugar Ray Robinson was Roy Jones and Bhop lost that fight.

Re: Sugar Ray Robinson Welterweight fight Videos....
What proof do we have that Robinson was a better Welter than Middle. He struggled in a few fights at Welter and the Opposition wasnt as good as his middleweight fights, always had my doubts, whats your take

His opposition at Welterweight is very questionable Scrap. But i wasn't around in that era and there is no footage of his Welterweight fights so i can't really say. But you have seen his fights at Welterweight and you was around in that era so i would love to hear your thoughts.

Re: Sugar Ray Robinson Welterweight fight Videos....
Fuck Im not that old I came in at the end of his career. But Ive been in the sport 50 years and been privy to some interesting discussions with people who were around SRR and involved with his career. Some off the things I have been told have shocked me,and been told not to mention names or the source. Look who ran Boxing then, if you didnt write what they wanted you didnt get in never mind a ticket Ray was there Golden Boy

CC Scrap interesting story.
Its shame there isn't any footage of Robinson at Welterweight. I also would love to see more footage of Charles and Burley.

Re: Sugar Ray Robinson Welterweight fight Videos....
CC for that Daxx. Scarp,SRR did what he had t do at at WW and cleaned up and beat everyone that was put in front of him. You can't do much more than that. Taeth, those fights you mentioned,LaMotta etc were all at middleweight when SRR was older and not at his best. The fact that he was still winning fights and titles far past his prime is a testment to his skill imo.
