Awesome vid. So many people just do not realize how slick Duran could be. So Crafty and so Brutal. He was a true monster at lightweight. Best lightweight of all time IMO.
great video mate
:ohow old were they then? brilliant vid ice keep em coming ;)
Yeah he doesnt get enough credit for his defence imo. He was very hard to hit flush which is probably why he had some sucess at the higher weights.Quote:

He IMO had great defense, one of the best defenses I've seen for a guy comming forward... I mean Leonard had a really hard time hitting him or finding openings.
That was in 1989 i believe just before Duran's fight with Iran Barkley.Quote:

Let's keep in mind this is an older heavier Duran.
Just imagine what a prime Duran would look like training?
Mick, whats not told is the vidio is edited, Duran hit him of the ropes in the 2nd round and Nigel went. Also at that time Roberto was I should think91 kilo, and having 3 bottles of wine a day and a bottle of scotch Im sure he was pissed while training, but great company. Hank Caplan was over with him and was tracing the footsteps of Jack The Ripper for 2 week one funny man and what a Historian.Everybody was telling Nigel to knock him out, credit to Nigel he had to much respect for the man
Which one are you Scrap ;DQuote:

The one looking after Nigel.
No shit! :) Wow! would have loved to see that.Quote:

Amazing, I have a copy of this session on VHS but I've not seen it in years. I have to dig it out.Quote:

What was with Benn not wearing headgear? Was he trying to prove something? I bet he wished he had the gear on in the first Chris Eubank fight. Good post of the video. I will give some reputation when I get some
This was Duran in training for the Iran Barkley fight. Definetly an older Duran, this vid probably took place in 89'. I think Benn's people told him to go all out on Duran(hence no headgear), but Roberto wasn't having any part of it. Apparently round this time Duran was also drinking extremely heavily. Just show's what a great Duran was imo.
:)
I love watching guys like that spar.
I wish there were more Toney vids sparring, there's a good writer for one of the other sites who's based in Southern California that talks about how when Toney was basically a non-entity in the time before he came back to beat Jirov that he would come into the gym half drunk, at least, with a cigar and still toy with guys like Lamon Brewster, Jeremy Williams, other guys like that.
Also Shane Mosley when he was coming up apparently had some great sparring sessions with pretty much everybody based in Southern California. See the Chavez video I posted on the other thread.
