Pro's who fought each other in the amateurs...
Does anyone know any results which happened in the amateurs between current pro's which you would not expect would have happened nowadays?
The one which shocked me when I heard about it was the David Diaz beat Zab Judah at the Olympic qualifying. Considering all the hype around Zab when he was younger it suprised me.
Any others...

Well I believe Taylor and Pavlik fought in the amateurs, with Taylor winning. Obviously it didn't work out that way in their fight a couple of months ago.

Re: Pro's who fought each other in the amateurs...
Abdullaev beat Cotto as far as I remember
I'm almost certain Martin Castillo beat Floyd Mayweather. Castillo's good but no Floyd and he fights at 115-118.

Re: Pro's who fought each other in the amateurs...
Henry Tillman beat Mike Tyson twice in the amateurs, when they met in the pros Tillman lasted about 2 minutes.
Forrest beat Mosley in the 1992 Olympics trials i believe, in the pros Forrest beat Mosley twice.
Taylor beat Pavlik in the amateurs, everyone knows what happened when they met as pros.
Greg Page beat Tony Tubbs 5 times in the amateurs i think, when they met in the pros Tubbs won a 15 round decision.
Jorge Luis Gonzalez beat Bowe in the amateurs, when they met as pro's Bowe KO him in 6.
I'll think of some more later.

Mayweather fought Augie Sanchez 3 times in the amateurs and Mayweather beat him 2-1. Sanchez's 1st win over Mayweather was very controversial.

Here's some Amir Khan fights he fought in the amateurs from his book:
Amir Khan v Craig Watson (Commenwealth welterweight title holder) won 21-9
Amir Khan v Victor Ortiz (Who KO'd Carlos Maussa in 1 round this year) GET THIS he won in a second round knockout.

Sugar_Shaw I think I just remembered a more shocking one.
Ivan Calderon who was the Minimumweight WBO Champ that's the 105 lb. div. beat the former WBO Light Welterweight champ & current WBA Welterweight champ that's the 140 & 147 lb. div. Miguel Cotto.
Early in Cottos amateur career.

Re: Pro's who fought each other in the amateurs...
Heres a quote from Cotto.
"I fought with Ivan Calderon when I was amateur, 100 pounds. He beat me three to two. After that, we make the team of Puerto Rico to represent Puerto Rico in international competition. We were both in the Olympics in 2000. He's still at 105 pounds. He's, if not the best, one of my best friends."...

And in the same Olympics (2000) he beat Calvin Brock as well. Wouldn't expect him to do that today either. (Nor would I expect Audley Harrison to come out on top after a tournament involving these guys :))
I was looking through some results from the Olympics at one point, and found some good matchups. I've only included the ones where both boxers are fairly high profile, and where the result might be different today (i.e. no Taylor beating Sturm for example):
Atlanta 1996:
- Omar Narvaez beat Joan Guzman
- Oktay Urkal beat David Diaz
- Stipe Drews beat Timur Ibragimov
- Luan Krasniqi beat Ruslan Chagaev
- Paea Wolfgramm (of Tonga) beat Sergei Liakhovich
Sydney 2000:
- Wladimir Sidorenko beat Daniel Ponce De Leon

Re: Pro's who fought each other in the amateurs...
Most of the fighters who beat anyone good were older and had more experience at the time. I don't care what people did in the amateurs, however reviewing amateur bouts, is fun to see how your fighter has evolved in so many ways. Many fighters who won the gold are no where to be seen after or get mopped in the pros and quit.

Re: Pro's who fought each other in the amateurs...
I know Amir Kahn stopped Victor Ortiz in the 2nd round to win gold at junior olympics
-
Re: Pro's who fought each other in the amateurs...
tommy hearns vs aaron pryor
felix sturm vs jermain taylor

Re: Pro's who fought each other in the amateurs...
Audley Harrison beat Sam Peter
I heard Jeff Lacy bottled a fight with Carl Froch because Froch brutally destroyed Lacy's team mate. Lacy was supposed to fight him next in a UK vs US meet and he pulled out after he saw what Froch did to his mate.
Source: Carl Froch.....yeh thats what i thought ;D
