F****** Trying to quit somking!!!! Is a B****!!
I used to laugh at the commercials where people are talking about how addicting ciggarettes are and how hard of a time they have quitting.....
Well I am Being Punished NOW!!!!
I have been trying to quit and it is the HARDEST thing in the world to do.....I know all the bad things about smoking, The fact a craving only last 5 min and every other fact on the nasty habit...but it is damn hell!!!!!
For those who smoke QUIT NOW..go to the Doctor get the new $400 a month drug that takes away the desire by blocking bnrain waves...do what ever but S*** Trying to quit sucks!!!!!
I wish I never started......My own fault and I deserve everything I get...but I never imagined it would be like this....I can give up sex easier then this...Including masterbation in the time of true need.....
But come Hell or High Water I am going to Quit!!!!!
OK Rant over...just needed to get out some frustration ;)

Re: F****** Trying to quit somking!!!! Is a B****!!
I quit about two months ago cold turkey, not sure why but it hasn't been that hard for me.
I quit once before with a patch and it was a real pain in the ass which is odd, seems like it would be the other way around.
Did kind of feel odd for a couple weeks after quitting this time but I haven't had that many times where I thought I really want a cigarette.
Going out to a bar is kind of a pain in the ass though.

I have heard other people say the same thing about quitting....The patch is terrible...Makes me light headed and sick to my stomache.....

Re: F****** Trying to quit somking!!!! Is a B****!!
Well...I hear you...Maybe I should quit too,but I don't really want to...
I am down to 4-5 cigarettes a day, with one or two weak days a month when its more...
Those of my friends, who tried to quit smoking all relapsed sooner or later except one(he only smokes
like 15 cigarettes a YEAR)...
Its all just habit...like when you have a break and think having a smoke...after some time its gets easier...
-
Re: F****** Trying to quit somking!!!! Is a B****!!
I still smoke, a few each day, but it is not really a problem to quit for me. I just make a game out of it and tell myself I can go 10 minutes without a cigarette. Then after 10 minutes, I tell myself I can go 30 minutes without smoking one. And I just keep going back and forth doing that, and if I can make it a full day I'm good to go. I'll usually quit for a year and then pick it back up for some reason, but never been a real heavy, 2 pack a day type. Not having a smoke after eating is the hardest for me though, and that's when that 10 minute game I play is real difficult.

Re: F****** Trying to quit somking!!!! Is a B****!!
I'll throw this out there for what it's worth. I'm 57 yrs. old. I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, family history of heart disease, type 2 diabetes (Jeez, this even sounds bad to me) and am a male, which puts me in the high risk category for heart problems. On the plus side, I workout everyday and really try to watch my diet. Hopefully, I'll be able to lose some weight and get off the diabetes medicine. The good news for me? My doctor says that I don't smoke.

We're in the same boat. I've tried to quit many times but have been unsuccessful so far, but I've found a "happy," medium.
Start chewing tobacco. Skoal Straight works for me and I've found that I now smoke 5 five cigarettes a day as opposed to the 30-40 cigs a day I used to smoke.

If I was only at 4-5 cigs a day TBH I would not really worry about it....Problem is I am at a pack a day...I have a buddy of mine simular to yours and he will just smoke a few times a yr..

My problem is I feel like crap lately (a lot of it has to do with lack of exercise) and I worry because heart problems and such run in my family...Had a lot of deaths in the family this yr from heart attcks so makes you think about changing health habits

I thought about that....I mean its not the nictines that is killing me (though it isn't good for you and the cause of my addiction)...its the smoke itself

Re: F****** Trying to quit somking!!!! Is a B****!!
Daxx, i used this inhaler type of thing.. you put little nicotine cartridges in and you smoke it like a cig.. it's a method of weening yourself off, and it burns like hell which makes you not want to do it (but considering it is your only way to get the nicotine that you crave you obviously still want it).. I got it free from my doctor, and it worked..
I have the most problems when i am drinking.. the majority of my friends smoke so it's hard not to just ask for one and enjoy the hell out of it.. But i've been playing in this hockey league and there is no possible way to smoke at all and still be in good enough shape to play so that has been my motivation to not even think about it, but still everytime i'm around someone who smokes it pops into my mind..

Trying every couple of hours is harder. I'm serious, try the 10 or 15 minute thing; and though it forces you to think about it more often, it is shorter times to deal with. But that was just me. Go look at some pics of guys with camcorders strapped to their throat after throat cancer and that may be motivation enough :-\

Re: F****** Trying to quit somking!!!! Is a B****!!
Quitting smoking is a bitch, I finally quit 2 years ago after several unsucessful attempts. I still smoked for a while when I drank, but I gave that up. I think. I also smoked for about 3 weeks after my mom passed away, but it was easy to stop. The final time I tried quitting smoking it was actually a lot easier for me, but I only quit after I hacked up a nickle-sized gob of half-congealed blood which was pretty good motivation. The first week is the toughest, I started chewing the gum after a few days (tastes like an ashtray smells), but it gets a lot easier over time. When I'm sober I find smoking disgusting now, but I always want one when I drink.
Good luck Daxx

Not a chance, it makes too much money and eliminating the income from them coupled with the higher life span of your average person and there would be huge economic backlash.
I never started because i never saw what was so great about it. Everyone i know that did quit did so cold turkey.

Re: F****** Trying to quit somking!!!! Is a B****!!
Have you tried the plastic nicotine inhalers????
I tried to quit smoking countless times over a year or 2 before I managed to finally quit.. I tried the patches a lot of times but went through boxes and boxes of them over the time with no real success. They also make you feel sick if you have one that has to much nicotine for your body...
I finally was able to quit, somehow easily, when I found the nicotine inhalers..
They are like small plastic cigarettes (not quite the same shape) that you put a small nicotine cartridge in and inhale them a bit like a cigarette... These are because because you have them like a normal cigarette at the normal times.. I used to always have 2 or 3 smokes on the way to work in the car, you just puff on these plastic things instead.. After food and all that.
The bonus is you can be at work or inside your house and smoke them where you may not be able to smoke normal ones..
If I hadn't tried those, I would probably still be struggling... They were easly 40 times better than gum or patches..
I used them for about a month and a half, and I slipped up a couple of times in the first week, but as long as I still had them, I persisted and by a month I was using them a lot less.. Around the 2 month I would honestly totally forget about them, and only after something triggered a craving maybe once a day, i'd have a puff...
The important thing is to always have these products around while your quiting so even if you have a smoke, you can still turn around an hour later and have an alternative thing their instead of a cigarette.. After about a week you generally don't want a cigarette and only want the thing thats helping you stop.. Well, I had that case with the inhalers.. Nothing else helped much though.

Sorry, I didn't read that you had already posted suggesting these so CC if karma will allow...
I definetly second the suggestion though! They sat along side the patches for 2 years and I never even thought of them, but I honeslty believe they are anyones best chance...
One of my friend's dads smoked very heavily for 35 years and you would not seeing him EVER without a smoke in his mouth (unless he had lost them).... He was only able to quit after he found the inhalers... He had one hanging out of his mouth almost surgically attached for a few months,,, but no one believed he would EVER quit...

haha, cc back both daxx/dizaster..
I read what i consider the best description of why it's so hard to quit smoking.. something like "after you smoke you rewire your reward system" and i think 'rewire' is the best word because as soon as you start smoking and you experience how great it is, you can never go back to the way you were before that.. It's real tough knowing that inhaling from a cig will make you feel so much better.. regardless of what method you use to stop, it really comes down to will power.. you have to not want to smoke.
to be honest my main motivation is just the fact that it's so common as you age to all of a sudden have a life threatening disease related to cancer, and cig's only increase that chance by a LOT.. Look at athletes who are in great shape who have cancer, they have th best chance at winning the battle due to their health.. so i am hoping to be as healthy as possible to lessen my chances of getting such a disease, and god forbid if i do, then i'll be able to defend against it the best possible.

Re: F****** Trying to quit somking!!!! Is a B****!!
Thanks for the CC..
That's so true about cancer.. It's the one thing that you can see around you and hear 100's of stories..
And you know the risks and occassionally think, could it happen to me, but it feels like a distant thing. And you may never get it..
But if that day ever comes where you have a test at the doctor and they say "you have cancer", i'm sure every moment of the rest of your life will be spent looking back and wishing you could take back every smoke you had... But it's just impossible to see it that way before hand which is a part of the problem as well..

Re: F****** Trying to quit somking!!!! Is a B****!!
Alright Daxx, not sure if your interested in this type of thing or believe in it, but I uploaded a hypnosis MP3 track that goes for about 25 minutes and helps you quit smoking.
It takes so much mental power and persistance to try to quit, but this just helps take some pressure off. Just wack some headphones on hopefully if you have some, and lay back and relax..
I have a feeling this also helped me a lot with quiting.. I certainly felt a lot more confident after listening to it even once...
Plus it held up my computer for 70 minutes while it uploaded so you better damn well give it a try! ;)
It's with rapidshare and it should be small enough (37mb) to let you download it without a membership..
If you have problems though just let me know and i'll see if another website can host it for free.
http://rapidshare.com/files/81376253...liant.mp3.html
So anyway, give it a go and feel free to leave feedback if you think it helps or doesn't help..

Re: F****** Trying to quit somking!!!! Is a B****!!
I quit cold turkey for new years and did well the first 6 days. But I when I went out my last night will power collapsed after the first half-dozen or so drinks. Thought I would have "just one" and ended up smoking damn near a whole pack. The real crux for me is going to be when I am at a bar or any social gathering with alcohol involved.
It seems like a completely different game when alcohol is involved. The urge to smoke almost becomes overwhelming and it takes very strong will power, suffering, and teeth-grinding (in my case!) to try and fight through that.
I read it is a good idea to give up drinking for the first 30 days when trying to quit smoking. It seems that I might have to try something like this, because often times even if I do quit those one or two nights a week when I go out start the cycle all over again. Sounds like it would be a hell of a month :-\

Re: F****** Trying to quit somking!!!! Is a B****!!
Ill show you a few tricks i learned.
Eat oranges when ever you feel like a smoke ,just bite the top out of one and squezze the juice down fast and it takes one of the edges off.
Brush your teeth after every coffee and every meal and every snack for the first month at least as the cemical reaction in your mouth triggers your mind to want a smoke.
Hide your smokes from yourself by covering the packaging as the advetizing on them is a strong link to your mind and you relate to even the color on your prefered brand.
Package them in something else ,dont keep them where you can feel them in your pocket and never leave them next to you in sight when working.
Your mind is clever, so clever that if your killing yourself even slowly the subcconsius part of your ego cant be wrong so it will make up excuses for why your doing it.
smoking is killing yourself it is slow suicide.
This is because the mind is built with an ego inbuilt originally for our own protection before the modern crap we do became a threat and the animal stuff has fazed out,so now it protects itself!
So if you actually think your wrong or incorrect your ego automatically tries to justify reasons for you physically doing it to yourself so that it doesnt get proved wrong and dies off.
Its a tough bitch and it works through your sub consciouss.
The answer is to bring out the hidden reasons it has sneakily hid in your sub mind out into your consciouss thought so that if they arise you already know about them and you dont fall for any surprizes. (write them down)
So you imagine all the nasty things that could happen to you in the future that would definatley make you pick up a smoke again ,write them down and deal with them out in the open right now and tick that box before it occurs so there is no unexpected downfalls for the future.
What if your mum died? your dad? your brother? what if you got caught at ten red lights in row when you were late and pissed off? etc .what if you get pissed and tell yourself you dont care?are you going to waste all these weeks of pain on one night and a few drinks?
This is how anti/clever the sub consiouss ego is ,you will reward yourself with a smoke for getting caught at a red light and it will also reward you with a smoke for getting a fantastic run of green lights too.
thats how cagey it has become.
It is as much about sub consiouss reward/punishment when you are in way beyond just the physical addiction.

^^^ I think you meant CC for Andre, though you wrote SC... I guess that's what coming of cigarettes will do.
Hey Andre, I've been wondering if you have studied any type of psychology or hypnosis/NLP or spiritual type things for self healing/development.. I've read quite a few posts that highlight the mind and beleifs are as important as just about anything physical you can do... I certainly like where you're coming from in these posts, and wondered if you had any particular influence in such areas by reading books or learning from someone, Or have just found yourself thinking in that way from general life experience?

Re: F****** Trying to quit somking!!!! Is a B****!!
Any updates on this? Anyone succeeding?
I have been pretty good since January 1. For me getting to the gym on a almost daily basis and cutting out alcohol worked wonders. Even times when I was really craving one I just told myself "no" and thought how I would feel running or sparring later in the week.
My lungs did a little "house cleaning" which was pretty nasty. It's funny once they are not under the stress of breathing in carcinogens and tar daily they can focus on getting rid of all that stuff that built up. Remembering what I coughed out is enough to make me not want to start again, especially now that I feel I am pretty much in the clear.
My problem is still when I get more than a few drinks in me, wow do I want a cigarette. As a result of that I have quit having over 5-6 drinks at a given time. This was something that would have been smart for me to do anyways, but it was the desire to quit smoking that made it necessary.

Haha.. I'm actually getting to the point when I'm walking down the street and have to inhale someone else's smoke I'm thinking "mutherfucker  "
Problem is if my past record has anything to say, I will probably be one of those "mutherfuckers" again myself in a couple months !

Not all the way there but making progress....
I feel better though just with the reduction.....soon enough I will quit for good
