Worst matchups in boxing
We always talk about matchups that would make for the best fights, I prefer to move away from the bright side and be negative.
What are the worst, most horrendously boring matchups that could possibly be made today.
1)John Ruiz-Timur Ibragimov: This would be truly horrific. It would actually do wonders for Ruiz' reputation as it is my opinion that Ibragimov's boringness KTFO Ruiz boringness. I know most won't agree with that but Ibragimov is truly horrible. He would do absolutely nothing all night, Ruiz would win 120-108 on jab and fall in clutch/ring generalship.
2)Zahir Raheem-anybodyDerrick Gainer: This was actually about to be made a few months ago. Truly horrible. I would suspect Raheem would be forced to be the agressor as Gainer would mainly focus on parrying Zahir's jab whether Zahir was throwing it or not. There would be a lot of clenching and falling. Zahir Raheem UD on ring generalship.
3)Paulie Malignaggi-Junior Witter: I don't think either one of these guys are as boring as the aforementioned four guys by any means but the combination of these two in the ring would be a nightmare. Witter wants to counter, Paulie wants to move and jab, it would be painful. Hopefully Witter lands something big and ends it but probably 12 rounds of feinting, posing, etc.
I was gonna do five but I don't have time. A guy like Andre Dirrell deserves a shot at this list but I can't think of an opponent to bring out his special talents.
Let me know if I've missed some obvious ones.

Re: Worst matchups in boxing
I stated this one a while back.
Carlos Baldomir v Cory Spinks.

CC. Good one that I didn't even come close to thinking about. Baldomir plodding around all day not even coming remotely close to landing anything while Spinks pecks at him. Nice work.

Re: Worst matchups in boxing
BTW I'm talking about Timur not Sultan. Sultan's not a thrill a minute but he's allright, light years better than Timur.

:coolclick: returned bro, it is an awful matchup and you would fall asllep after the first 30 seconds of round 1.

Re: Worst matchups in boxing
Yeah may be odd to some people but I find Baldomir more boring than Spinks. Just such a plodder. The combination of the two would make for a rough night.

your totally right, Spinks punches would just bounce off Baldomir with no effect whatsoever.
For me there both as bad as each other and yet one is a world champion and the other is a former world champ, that baffles me ::**

Re: Worst matchups in boxing
Nicolai Valuev/Tye Fields: may not be boring, but what a strange fight, like 2 giant 7 year old kids flailing away.
-
Re: Worst matchups in boxing
Matt skelton VS Micheal sprott ...weve already seen how bad that shit was.
-
Re: Worst matchups in boxing
Actually Malignaggi/Witter maybe shouldn't be there. Witter could possibly get a KO in that one, it wouldn't be good but there are worse fights out there.
If only Harrison/Guinn hadn't already happened, obviously that would be there. That one might have found its way into the title of the thread.
Sechew Powell/Spinks has been rumored and that's another one just cause of the style matchup. Don't want to appear to be picking on Spinks (actually I don't really give a S***) but Spinks is not a good matchup unless he has somebody leading, coming to him, making the fight. Same for Sechew. Bilbo would be overcome with enthusiasm for this one.
Andre Dirrell-Andre Ward would be an odd matchup.

Re: Worst matchups in boxing
Briggs vs. Vidoz - My god that would be awful... Niether guy throws more then 5 punches a round.
-
Re: Worst matchups in boxing
Wow, forgot about Briggs, even with the massive amounts of HGH he can only fire off about 13 punches per 12 round fight.
Briggs-Vidoz, Briggs-Timur, you could make some good ones with him.

Hahahaha. Fields throws punches like a bitch thats for sure. I think Valuev would KO his ass though.
Let me see if I can add another boring match to this discussion...
How bout Sechew Powell vs. Cory Spinks?
Or Andre Dirrell vs. Markus Beyer?

Dirrell-Beyer's not bad, telling you I'm searching for people that can even partially live up to Dirrell's shittiness, its hard work. Beat you to Powell-Spinks, guess were thinking along the same lines.
If they were only the same size, how boring would Viloria-Rocky Juarez be, there the same fighter, there so ambitious and energetic:D

Re: Worst matchups in boxing
Juarez-Chris John wouldn't exactly be a thriller.
Did they actually follow through with Henry Maske-Virgil Hill?

Yes. And Maske won, and it wasn't pretty. Ring magazine did an article on it, but they made it sound like it was decent fight I guess.
And Dirrell was horrible running against Curtis Stevens, but I've seen him in other fights b4 that and he wasn't near that boring. Plus the poor guy's brother is suffering from cancer and is also a pro boxer. So we should cut Dirrell a break somewhat. He was BORING against Stevens though, just saftey first all the way.

Re: Worst matchups in boxing
Peter Manfredo v anybody ;D
i mean the guy has one thing in common with Michael Jackson -
they both wear gloves for no aparent reason !!!
i really think Manfredo plain sucks , in fact he both sucks and blows at the same time.
-
Re: Worst matchups in boxing
Sopme of the worst I've seen:
Joel Casamayor Vs Armando Santa Cruz:
I was rooting for him, but it was a terrible fight followed by a terrible decision.
Derek Chisera vs. Tony Booth:
The greatest farce of a contest I have ever seen On the undeercard of Calzaghe-Manfredo this was a disgrace.
Calzaghe Ashira:
An ugly one sided fight
-
Re: Worst matchups in boxing
Calzaghe v Bronco Sabot
in fact look at some of the bums Calzaghe has defended againest
then check there records after him , and u will see how undeserving they were.
-
Re: Worst matchups in boxing
Once again the Calzaghe debate begins :)
I've gotta say, that at the time Calzaghe was on the way up and even defending his wbo title, the SMW division was nowhere near as deep as it is today. He defended against whoever was put in front of him and put on some great displays. Had Calzaghe been a fraud he would have been exposed against Lacy or Kessler. That didn't happen, instead we saw him confirm his skills against Lacy, his ruggedness against Bika, his class against Kessler and even hisdrawing power against Manfredo. It's hard to fault the guy now.
-
Re: Worst matchups in boxing
Style-wise Hopkins - Calzaghe has the makings of being horrible to watch.

WHen he beat Joey Spina's ass, that was pretty entertaining though.

Re: Worst matchups in boxing
one of the most boring fights I've seen (aside from RJJ v. Hopkins 2) was Taylor v. Spinks. The prefight between Pavlik and Miranda blew the main event out of the water and it was just boring.. and i usually enjoy watching technical fights but this one just put me to sleep
-
Re: Worst matchups in boxing
RJJ v Toney
Trinidad v ODH
Bradley v Alexander
Big fights but stylistically terrible fights.
-
Re: Worst matchups in boxing
Meldrick Taylor vs Terry Norris. Norris was bigger, stronger, at least as fast, a harder puncher, a better boxer, and Taylor was just so easy to hit.
Ray Leonard vs Terry Norris. Leonard was past it, and I think he was betting on Norris being chinny, which he was, sometimes (like when Julian Jackson or Simon Brown hit him, but no much otherwise), but he was always fast, a good boxer and puncher.
