Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya
The average person on the street only really knows bout two current fighters. Oscar and Mike. So if you had to pick just one to identify with, to say you were a fan of, who would it be? Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya. What would you say?

Re: Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya
If you're asking me who I can relate more with and who my fighting style would be more like then i would say Oscar De La Hoya. So I guess if i'm watching for inspiration or to 'relate' then I would watch him over Mike as he is my weight and is obviously a fantastic boxer.
Who doesn't like Tyson in his prime though?? He was an absolute beast..If you're talking about 'relating' though, i've never been convicted of rape luckily so I can't relate that much with him ;)

Re: Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya
I like Mike Tyson better for various reasons. The boxing public has alway's liked the HW division the most, so with Mike Tyson at one time being the baddest man on the planet I could understand why he was such a big draw, people thought he was invincible, and his reputation stayed with him even after his decline. I could never understand why Oscar De La Hoya was that big of draw to be honest, some of his peers who were just as good as him or better didn't produce half the draw that he did and I can't understand why. Maybe it's his image but he's not a strong character so the only thing I can come up with the public liking his looks, if the fans were 85% women then I could understand, but with the majority of the fans being men I cant understand ???

Re: Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya
When I was a kid, it was Mike all the way, but looking back Oscar provided more entertaining fights.

The strange thing is, that as huge of a star as ODLH is, the average non boxing fan in the UK would not know who he was. None of my family would have a clue who Oscar De La Hoya is, but everybody on the planet knows Tyson, he's up there with Elvis, The Queen of England, Michael Jackson and Madonna in terms of world wide notoriety.
......but I prefer Oscar

Re: Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya
Tyson in the ring was the baddest man on the planet! Oscar was just the prettiest.
-
Re: Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya
It's a hard one to pick but in the end I went with Tyson.
You could argue that DLH's quality of oppostion was superior but the fact is Tyson in his day was considered by most as UNBEATABLE.
DLH never really gave that impreasion. Even when he was undefeated he was criticized for fighting an old Chavez, for getting a gift decision against Whitaker and Quartey. He didn't even look that good agains Oba Carr. Please note this is all not my opinion just the general impreasion from the media at the time.
To answer brazilianbomber. I think in the end Oscar was loved by so many by a combination of great promotion and the fact that he is one of the very few fighters that have been willing to fight anybody. Pretty much anybody who is somebody from 147 to 160 has been in the rign with Oscar.

CC and good post Rookie, but Oscar was a big draw way before he got to 147, and that was way before he got the reputation of being one of the fighters to fight everybody. His popularity started in 92 when he was in the olympics

Re: Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya
Tyson.
No real reason. Just, Tyson.
-
Re: Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya
Oscar
I like the good guys
And he has provided the most excitement......opposition wise.
-
Re: Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya
With out a doubt: Tyson!
I like ferocious tortured souls who denounce society.
I don't like superficial "golden" boys who put on whatever face will suit them best in any situation.
-
Re: Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya
actaully i like both of them! Ill never forget the young Tyson who was special even if you dont like him. Remember seeing some of them ko's they was brutal! Then again i liked the box and move style oscar showed earlier on, abit like Leonard used to! i voted tyson though, hes my favourite heavyweight of all time.
-
Re: Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya
I can't stand Oscar's fakeness and although I respect him as a fighter,he is also too much of an attention whore for me and gets in the way of these young guns fighting. Mike in his prime was a fricking animal.Anything he's done since then,I've tried to ignore. I prefer Mike.
-
Re: Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya
Looks like Mike's winning by a hair, or ear.

thats kinda true when i come to think of it. Before the Hatton fight was made most of my mates for example who dont follow boxing didnt even know who PBF was. It's true aswell that EVERYONE knows who Mike Tyson is....not sure whether it was just cos he made such a big impact on the HW division or becuase of the coverage of what happened outside of the ring.

My wife Donna thought Oscar Dela Hoya was the guy who sang the song "hero" when I mentioned him one time, but she knew who Tyson and Holyfield were. ;D

I voted but I don't think I need to explain and lay out whom I voted for. I think the answers obvious. :)

This is true, but most of his early fans were outside the boxing comunity. The gold medal, the hole storie about his mother, his good looks all lead to a celeberty status. But it was after his reign as a welterweight that he began to get the respect from real boxing fans. His company also knows how to promote a fight and make it big. It is from the Trinidad fight on that he really started to make ridiculous amounts of money.

I forget most of you or half anyway are British. In the U.S. EVERYBODY knows who Oscar is.

Re: Mike Tyson or Oscar Delahoya
Even though Oscar is a true warrior and in the ring and has displayed more courage than Tyson ever has I voted for leg iron mike.
Even though I dont rate him as highly as most on this site I have alway said that Tyson was the most exciting boxer I have ever watched live.(on tv)
Even when way past his best when he was fighting 2nd and 3 rate boxers I could not help but watch.

Well we are Canadian, and Canadians are as much Americanized as actual Americans. Everything is the same here, except we pay more taxes ;D. Donna is just very boxing dumb. She has no interest in it at all and will never sit down to watch the fights.

it is a tie for me with Tyson & oscar. Tyson was who turned me into a boxing fan & oscar has been my favorite fighter after the decline of tyson. also I am from calgary alberta canada & a lot of people here only know tyson & delahoya. an occasional person would know also about roy jones & arturo gatti.

Nope, I don't waste my time voting Presidents are already elected by the time people vote.
How the fuck do we loose the votes of state? ???
I came to my senses many moons ago that the world is controlled by those at the top and everyone else are meer peasents. That's why I don't like to discuss politics, religion etc. etc. why waste my fucking time with that. It makes me laugh when regular people discuss politics and try to analyze a politician and or the politicians believes. I don't waste my time or energy talking or disscusing that garbage like it'll make a difference. I just worry about my family and me so as long as were OK and no politician is bothering us I'm OK. If they wanna raise taxes they will and theres nothing we can do about it. Fucken gas here in Los Angeles is about to hit $4 dlls. a gallon and theres nothing we can about it it's that simple. Donny we (California) got The Terminator, the fucken terminator as a Governer. :(

Dude you got way too much of a defeatist attitude. Cheer up. I hate life and myself as much as the next guy, but I don't feel all of society is doomed and Democracy is fake and a failure. I mean shit man. ;D
