If old man B-Hop actually defeats JoeCal, could he make a case for #1 P4P?
I was thinking about this today. Hopkins was undisputed #1 P4P with Floyd a solid #2. Then when he lost to JT, Floyd took over the #1 spot. Well since then B-Hop retired and then came back, moved up two weight classes and annihilated the recognized light heavyweight champ at the time (Tarver) and beat up a perennial Top 5 P4P (Winky Wright, albeit Winky was way out of his weight class). If B-Hop actually defeats JoeCal, who most have in their Top 3 P4P, and Floyd Mayweather stays inactive for a year, could a 43 year old Hopkins actually make a case for P4P #1?

Re: If old man B-Hop actually defeats JoeCal, could he make a case for #1 P4P?
I could see a case for Calzaghe being number 1 if he destroys BHOP and FLoyd sdtays inactive. If FLoyd fights even once in 2008 tho and doesnt lose he'll continue to be P4P number 1.

Re: If old man B-Hop actually defeats JoeCal, could he make a case for #1 P4P?
Only if Pac-Marquez is a bad fight where both guys look lackluster (and what are the chances of that?).
The Pac-Marquez winner will be the clear-cut "Best fighter PFP not named Floyd Mayweather", IMO.

Good point. If pac is number 2 and beats JMM it certainly wont harm his ranking on the P4P list, similiar for JMM.

Re: If old man B-Hop actually defeats JoeCal, could he make a case for #1 P4P?
The way the top of the P4P list is it's really a tough call.
I mean PBF is a concrete stand at #1 and only loosing or inactivity will hurt him. IMO chances are the inactvity will come 1st.
I agree with SweetPea that the winner of JMM-Pac will have more of a case at shifting around with PBF. If Hopkins wins that IMO earns him a solid spot at #3.

What wil piss me off is when Calzaghe whups Hopkins ass and The Ring magazine will still only put him at 5th or something ridiculous like that >:mad
Calzaghe would need to move up and KO Klitscho to get any recognition stateside.

YES. I actually felt that Bernard should have been made P4P #1 after dominating Antonio Tarver in such a fashion.

Re: If old man B-Hop actually defeats JoeCal, could he make a case for #1 P4P?
hmmm good question. To be honest i never even looked at this fight as one that BHOP could win....i dont even know why just seemed pretty sure JC would win clearly. However, if BHOP wins this against a unbeaten boxer that is in such good form JC is...you HAVE to consider him right up there it would be one of the biggest victories for a long time when you consider his age.

I'm with Mick. Hopkins moves to number 3 when he beats Calzaghe

If,and this is a big if,he beats Joe,you have to be able to make a case for him

Cuz he a better fighter. There's a diffrence from being a very good fighter (which Calzaghe punk ass is) and being a great fighter (which Hopkins is).

;D ;D ;D I think B Hop goes number 2 at most, depending on the manner of his win. As for P4P number 1,the winner of Pacman v Jmm has a STRONG case for that position.

Re: If old man B-Hop actually defeats JoeCal, could he make a case for #1 P4P?
In answer to the topis question yes it does.
Floyd , Hopkins and Joe are currently in the top 3 and if Hopkins beat joe or vice versa then theyd be number 1 .

That's a bit outlandish..... He has NEVER fought in the states. Name.....2 great(not world class, great) fighters who built their legacy outside of the US. How is Calzaghe supposed to expect recognition stateside when the only time he had a televised fight here was against another fighter unknown to basically everyone? Why should he have any recognition in the US, in your mind. I know he's a great fighter but boxing isn't a mainstream sport by any means these days, Americans hardly take notice of their own up and coming prospects. If he beats Hopkins that will all change though.. Because Hopkins is almost a household name these days. Calzaghe has never fought anyone even close to his stature.

I agree...to kind of disagree.
Here's the way I see it. Hopkins was the man for quite sometime. He was running on a record breaking streak & then he lost to Taylor...personally...I never settled with that loss because of the way it came about...but fan or no fan...a loss is a loss. Then Taylor fought Hopkins again & won...more convincingly in my opinion than the first. Taylor didn't really even catapult to a fourth or fifth slot.
Floyd has done the most to merit the #1 slot.
Now, IWO, if Hopkins loses to Calzaghe...which I believe he will...then Joe should hit the #2 spot atleast. Personally...I think that he argues a case for the #1 slot. Why? Joe's running a defense streak...much like Hopkins, he's undefeated, he's faced & is facing the best that his class has to offer, & he will just have beaten one of the greatest middleweight fighters of the last 10 to 15 years.
Now...as for Pacquiao Marquez...there lies the quandry. If the fight comes off explosively & Pac wins...he'll be a shoe in for the #2 spot. If Marquez wins...I think he moves up in his rank...but not to #1 status...even though beating Pac will be a blast.
The thing is Floyd is still the number one man no matter what anyone thinks of his personality. Floyd has remained undefeated & undisputed for the duration of his career. He's battered everyone that he's faced quite impressivley & should retain his spot...granted...if he's going to be inactive for two or three years...that should bump him down.
It'll be a mess.

Hopkins doesn't need fans like you Wacko. "Intelligent Fight Fan" or not, you NEVER back Bernard up anymore. Fuck Calzaghe, just cus he's UK and popular amongst a lot of the UK members does not mean you need to sing his praises constantly bro. You are better than that.

Hulk get mad...hulk get stupid!
Grow up. This has nothing to do with me being an intelligent fight fan or not...nor does it have anything to do with me backing Calzaghe because he's from the U.K.
I've always praised Calzaghe & ALWAYS picked him to win...no matter who he's facing. The same used to go for Hopkins. I picked against him for Tarver & Calzaghe & you cry like I scolded one of your family members. Deal.
Fuck Calzaghe?
I would say that you're better than that...but you blatantly proved that you're not time & time again.
Calzaghe will keep on winning & you will keep on crying.

Re: If old man B-Hop actually defeats JoeCal, could he make a case for #1 P4P?
Yeah, you picked Hopkins to beat Tarver? That's a blatent fuckin LIE. ;D You picked Tarver I remember it plain as day. Calzaghe ain't all that. He's very good, but not good enough to beat Bernard Hopkins.
I never claim to be the God of the forum, I don't make fake threads about my leaving seeking attention. So when I say crude, ignorant things like "Fuck Calzaghe" nobody cares. They expect as much from me. I'm just Hulk.

1) pacman
2) mayweather
3) cotto
4) marquez
5) vazquez
thats my top 5, i like to go for younger lions at this time, as a big hopkins fan i can't place him in the top 5, so i wouldn't make him number 1 if he beat joe

Re: If old man B-Hop actually defeats JoeCal, could he make a case for #1 P4P?
I don't think it's inconceivable that B Hop goes to 1,but if JC wins,he DEFINTELY can go to number 1.It would mean he's cleaned out a division, unbeaten, battered his 2 nearest rivals, unified the titles and beat the "champ" at 175.I changed my opinion slightly because,it's such a tough fight for both fighters.

I know that it's your list...but I am curious as to why you have Chris John in there & not Wlad.
The reason that I ask? Wlad's faced a shit load more & has faced far better fighters & convincingly beat them...not like John...who did not convincingly beat Marquez & hasn't fought outside his home turf much...if ever. Can't recall that.
But anyways...I am curious...as hell.
Wlad, IWHO, has done a hell of a lot to warrant being in there...but then again...it is your list.
I have just recently started putting a lot more stock in Wlad...but if I'm honest...it's only because Vit the Klit's outta the picture now. ;D

Re: If old man B-Hop actually defeats JoeCal, could he make a case for #1 P4P?
I personally in his prime B-HOP was a better fighter than Calzaghe.
at 40 something im not sure Hopkins has the work rate to stay with Calzaghe. I know in the past ive slagged Calzaghe off , as i really dont like the guy , but he has proved hes a top fighter.
I dont think its an easy fight to pick , but id say with his work rate its 55%-45% in Calzaghe favour.
I' ll be rooting for Hopkins , but i think the winner goes to number 3 in the p4p rankings.

Re: If old man B-Hop actually defeats JoeCal, could he make a case for #1 P4P?
I just realised that if Pac beats Marquez, then on paper he beat Barrera, Morales AND Marquez TWICE!
Wow! Hows that for a legacy!
No wonder he wants to fight Light-Welters, the man must think he's Bruce Fukin Lee!

Re: If old man B-Hop actually defeats JoeCal, could he make a case for #1 P4P?
Oh yeah, back to the point... ::**
If B-Hop wins, then he has to claim No. 3 spot. Regardless of what happens with Marquez/ Pacquiao

First Marquez fight was a draw mate
Floyd is still sitting pretty but im not sure a repeat win over Oscar whos lost more than hes won recently will be enough to reatin his status .
