Just read this somewhere, sorry if there is a thread already but Rees is definitely looking like Hatton's number 1 choice.

I think this is a good fight for Hatton coming back from a defeat like he did against PBF as Rees is someone as he can easily beat and he also has a belt setting up a unification with Malignaggi or Witter in late 08.
poor Gavin Rees is all i can say. You see how buzzing he is that he's a world Champ, not for long :(
could be to watch for the couple of rounds it last, if Hattons looking at Rees defo needs to be a 3 fight year for Ricky.
I missed out "good" to watch sorry
Not according to Ray Hatton...

If he was to fight more regularly then I wouldnt begrudge him picking up an easy belt....but there are bigger fish to fry.
Very smart choice for Hatton i wanted Hatton to fight Rees glad he is. Because not only will he get a World title beating the limited Rees, he will also get a lot of confidence back which is the more important.Quote:

Then it doesn't matter if your the next Sugar Ray Robinson your going to lose plain and simple. The mental part of Boxing is one of the most important things in boxing and is always overlooked.Quote:

A boxers shelf life is limited. Only so much time at that level for gimmee's.Quote:

A fight with Rees is pretty meaningless, Gavin will lose to any decent fighter at 140. Fights with Torres, Hopkins or Holt will provide fr more credit and quality ring time
Rees doesnt deserve a shot at Ricky. All he ever did was beat a dreadful version of M'bay who basically just showed up and forgot how to fight.
Reguardless of who he fights it will be nice to see hatton back in the ring.
Rees vs Hatton would be rubbish Rees does'nt deserve a shot Hatton is a big girl he should just fight Witter and stop putting it off.
What a totally meaningless fight this would be I'm a big Hatton fan But I would not walk across the sreet to watch it they can hold it in a phone box & still have room for the crowd
Hatton needs to fight Witter. End of story
Isn't Reese sorta like Baldomir? In that he won a title and nobody really thought he could do it?Quote:

I thought this was deemed unsuitable due to the terms that Rees wanted in the contract??? Also, I doubt that Hatton is ready to deal with Warren again just yet.
perfect for ricky--go back to handling old guys and no hopers
this dude is 5'3? at least ricky is almost as tall as him
its ridiculous
i think a fight with Rees would be good at building his confidence again. after beating rees he could then fight malnaggi or witter.
In the world of Alphabet land, a victory will make Hatton a 4 time world champion.Quote:

The morning of December 10th Enzo Calzaghe issued a statement saying they weren't eligible for a Hatton fight yet. It seemed they were open as soon as it appeared Hatton was going in other directions.
When negotiations between Rees and Hatton opened, Terms were proposed which Ray Hatton demed unworkable and said that Ricky would not fight him under said terms.
Do you think this behaviour is demonstrative of a man willing to fight the best?
Rees has been fortunate to achieve what he has. However, neither the general public nor the boxing faithful are under the illusion that he is possessed of anything extraordinary or any reasonable level of skill.
I believe Hatton by taking this fight is lowering himself though. The public are aware that Ree's is nothing special and the match up would be viewed with wide scepticism. Should Holt/Hopkins/Lazcano or even Peterson step up and take the title from Rees it would serve to make a much more attractive and respected fight.
I have said from an early stage that Torres is the route to be taken. A dangerous fighter who can be outboxed or smothered, is both an achievable goal and a huge confidence booster. Although he possess great Power Torres is pretty inconsistent, yet still respected. Hatton would do well to take his title before moving on to his main rivals, Witter and Malignaggi.
That is my personal outlook.
