Names mentioned for Oscar's first fight of the year:Forbes,Paulie and Salita
Check out the article at boxing scene.
"The selection of De La Hoya's opponent will come down to money. Because the fight will be televised on regular HBO, and not pay-per-view, Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, has already made it clear that none of the proposed names should expect to receive the kind of money that is usually given to De La Hoya's pay-per-view opponents. The fighter willing to accept the least amount of money, will probably end up with the fight."
Who should it be?Didnt he spar with Forbes for the first fight?

Re: Names mentioned for Oscar's first fight of the year:Forbes,Paulie and Salita
Forbes is long past his best and even at his best was not good enough for DLH even a faded DLH...and what about the size difference...Forbes is no natural 154 or 147lbr...yes he has quite a few fights there but not against anyone elite and he is a small 147lbr......not too mention DLH is now really a 154lbr....
Malignaggi though he looked bad in his last fight if he comes in 100% prepared he will run DLH around the ring ragged...make DLH look like a fool...Paulie is not PBF where he will counter off the ropes and allow Oscar thje chance to at least throw shots....
Salita....He should be ashamed of himself...Salita is a good fighter but not ready for a big bout like that...

Not impressed. What about Cintron ?

Re: Names mentioned for Oscar's first fight of the year:Forbes,Paulie and Salita
So, he's going to drop down to 147 and fight these guys ??? If not, he's basically saying I'll fight whoever is willing to put on 14 lbs, and accept the least money of anyone to ever fight me. Gee, this should be really interesting. What a bitch.

Re: Names mentioned for Oscar's first fight of the year:Forbes,Paulie and Salita
I'm so so so glad you guys have you eyes opened. Oscar is going to move to 147,most likely because he lost the first fight and Mayweather is more of a name now so he can call the shots. Ho weight drained is Oscar going to be,I mean he must walk around at quite a high weight right?Anyone know?

I would guess, that he wouldn't even dream of making the weight if he wasn't positive he could do it without being weight drained. A guy with his money and lifestyle wouldn't strike me as someone who would go through hell to make weight, I know I'd far sooner retire than kill myself at an old age when I'm sitting on hundreds of millions..

I disagree. We know that Oscar loves challenges and we know he loves attention, combine the 2 and I think he's going to make 147,regardless of what effect it has. A Floyd rematch is too much a big oppertunity of $$$ making to miss out on and now Floyd has more leverage,Oscar's making 147,regardless of how hard it is to make weight.

Exactly! To hype the rematch and say,oh I beat a slick boxer.Calling these guys from 140 to fight at 147! These guys!! I mean he could at least have gotten a Judah or someone legit at 147! >:mad >:mad

Yeah but if he wasn't sure he'd have the same vitality at 147, he could have easily just planned on the rematch taking place at the same weight as the first time, and got a bigger guy to fight as a tune up.. I think people are overestamating Mayweather's ability to dictate terms in the rematch. It will still be a golden boy promotion, and Oscar will make sure he doesn't give anything away imo. I would honestly be surprised to see Mayweather even make 50% of the purse, though logically he should demand more...Half is still so much more than he'll get fighting anyone else, and Oscar knows that. People are paying to see him more than Floyd, and that matters more than who won the first fight imo. I think that if he is planning to make WW, he must believe that he can actually be better there. For the first fight he trained in Puerto Rico instead of Big bear with altitude as he usually does.. Maybe he's just setting this goal for himself to get in the best condition he can.. Because I doubt we saw that in the first fight.

That's just fucking ludicrous. It sure as shit should not be Steve Forbes,What a consession prize for that s!!! robbery Vs.D.Hopkins.?I Like Forbes but he better bring a stun-gun and some platform shoes.
This is the early stages of a creation for the much in demand Rematch with Mayweather.....cough.Sorry,cant hold back on this,Oscar needs to step the fuck aside and let the men do the fighting,He is a overhyped, overpayed and arrogant Diva that prances around his own stable with guys he's involved with (no pun intended) throwing them scraps. It really smells bad the cross dressing, promoting /fighting.A farking glutinous king living in an Ivory tower. The sad thing is he knows it will bank.
When they fight, and it will be constructed and carfully scripted that they will, I will be rooting for Mayweather ( :-X) to crumble his ass up like dirty laundry and show him the door.Glamour boy who loves his own reflection way to much these days. Pardon the rant, need coffee

Cintron would be good , what about Clottey? I couldn't help noticing that DLH makes this announcement after Cotto, Williams, Margarito and Judah all make other commitments? So what he really wants is a fight against anyone that will make him look good at 147lb, this will help sell more PPV for the rematch. A patsy! that's what he wants...now i get it.

Re: Names mentioned for Oscar's first fight of the year:Forbes,Paulie and Salita
Oscar isn't going to fight someone like Cintron or Clottey, because this is a tuneup fight. You don't fight someone in a tuneup fight who could possibly beat you and ruin your big payday fight. Oscar almost made this huge mistake before with Sturm, you better believe he's going to be extra careful in pikcing his tuneup opponent this time.
Also, it makes some sense for Oscar to fight a small 140 pounder instead of a full-fledged welter or junior middle. Floyd is basically a bulked-up lightweight, and he has the speed of a featherweight.
-
Re: Names mentioned for Oscar's first fight of the year:Forbes,Paulie and Salita
Oscar should at least fight a fringe contender at welter. And the fucked up thing about this is that he's making these small guys come all the way up to 150. ODLH isn't even dropping down to welter. What a faggot. It's really sad though. I know money is a big issue, but I don't see why he couldn't fight someone like Judah or Collazo. Someone who is a legit welter with a name that he should be able to beat fairly easily. Fighting a tune up with a blown up Forbes or Paulie is no tune up for Floyd Mayweather. The thing that's funny is that he's peddling this as his "thank you fight" to the fans since it will be on free HBO. Thank you? Give me a break loser, we all know that you're just doing this to get more fans to pay for the Floyd rematch.

CC. I don;t think a commission should even sanction this fight.

Re: Names mentioned for Oscar's first fight of the year:Forbes,Paulie and Salita
I think Oscar is trying to get his stock back up. I think that is why he is bringing Floyd Sr. back on. It brings interest in a Mayweather-De La Hoya II fight that couldnt be done without drama. Makes for a more interesting build up to the fight. That ontop of a win against a beatable opponent will help his case for public interest in a rematch. Wouldnt be surprised if the guy he picks to fight comes to his plan though.

Re: Names mentioned for Oscar's first fight of the year:Forbes,Paulie and Salita
just read on sky sports teletext that De La Hoya may fight Hatton at a catchweight in late may or june.Very bad fight for Hatton if it happens.

I'm getting really fucking sick of Oscar Delahoya's bullshit. I do not wanna see a rematch with Mayweather. Or see him beat up on some overmatched little guy.

I would have no problem watching Oscar beat the shit out of Hatton or Maliganggi. I would even pay for it.

Thats true. Never thought of it that way. IF he fights Malinaggi it would be sort of fun to watch that little punk get his ass beat. BUT he don't deserve the pay day. I'm torn on that issue...

Re: Names mentioned for Oscar's first fight of the year:Forbes,Paulie and Salita
With de la Hoya, it is always about money. Based on the quoted comments, he is also cheap!! Out of the three opponents also mentioned, I would have to say that Paulie is the most intriguing. But still, Paulie has no chance whatsoever no matter how prepared he is. He simply has a better chance than the others mentioned.
-
Re: Names mentioned for Oscar's first fight of the year:Forbes,Paulie and Salita
He should fight a rematch with Felix Trinidad, far more money than fighting any of the other guys mentioned.
HBO could bill it as a 'Dance of the Bridesmaids', someone's losing streak MUST end!
-
Re: Names mentioned for Oscar's first fight of the year:Forbes,Paulie and Salita
I think if DLH is gonna have a tune up it should be against an old warrior who atleast deserves the Payday. Castillo, Quartey or Tszyu spring to mind because DLH should beat them, but they both deserve big money after their great careers. I'd much rather see someone like this benefit than Paulie.

CC. Great idea. I have no idea why Castillo isn't being brought up. He needs the money. Oscar didn't beat Quartey the first time without Vegas scoring and Quartey still has something left now. Even Tszyu, who's probably as bloated as an elephant right now would be too much risk for Oscar. Oscar used to be a real boxing fan's type of boxer because he'd fight everyone pretty much but now he's just purely a businessman. I think deep down inside he's trying to screw the fans and the sport for robbing him of his victory against Trinidad.

He robbed himself in those last rounds running like that.

Look at the opponents he has faced. Does he really need a win? People complain about him going up or down a weight, making money, etc. Don't all fighters do that? Look for ways to win a fight. I guess you just can't please people all the time.
It seems that Oscar can't even blink without people bashing him for that. Why all the hatred towards Oscar? He has given us good fights, good promotions, clean guy in and out of the ring, not a big mouth, etc.

Don't all fighters do it for the same reason? Don't we all work for better salaries? Didn't Mayweather act like a spoiled little brat with HBO when he was first starting and even said that HBO was offering a "slave salary" but people thought he was the coolest thing out there? Showing this fight FOR FREE on television doesn't sound so lucrative, does it? I wonder if any other fighter at Oscar's fame level would do the same.
Quote:

Winning clearly all rounds and deciding to fight like Mayweather (on a bycicle) and still not getting the decision is something I still don't understand. Sure, its not exciting to see a fighter be safe and just avoid punches and throw a few punches per round (like Oscar on the last rounds against Trinidad) but still, they gave it to Trinidad *sigh* .
