British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Welcome back guys,
Friday night action once again this week after the excellent fare dished up last week by Pickering and Hughes.
Tonight's fight comes from the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham, where Colin Lynes defends his European Light Welterweight title again Finn Juho Tolppola.
Here's the tale of the tape as I can call it:
Colin Lynes (30-3, 12KOs) is the former British titlist who has sneaked up almost unnoticed on the inside rail of the light welter scene in this country, moving well over recent times into claiming the European title last time out against Young Muttley last July. Lynes is a competent boxer with a stronger punch than his record suggests, and should have the edgo over Tolppola in this warm-up for his clash with Gianluca Branco at the end of February. Lynes will have the fans behind him in East London, and will be expecting to outbox Tolppola and grab another stoppage win, and certainly avoid a cut or an injury which could jeopardise his bout with Branco. A KO win will also boost his travelling support when he flies to Milan next month.
Juho Tolppola (20-3-1, 9KOs) is expected to purely turn up and give Lynes a nice warm-up for the fight, but with the European title on the line there is no doubt that Tolppola will be looking to throw a spanner in the works and claim that title for himself. Tolppola has had a competent, if uninspiring record so far, and although he's never been stopped by KO, a cut in his last bout ended in a TD. Having lost in his last challenge for this title in Jan 07 on points to Michele Di Rocco, Tolppola will be looking to regain the form which gave him a Bronze medal in the European Senior Championships when he was still an amateur.
Hard to look beyond the obvious result on this one, and a comfortable UD for Lynes is my call.
Coverage starts at 10pm GMT, 11pm Continental Europe and 5pm EST. ;) Seeya then.

Iam picking lynes by 8th round stoppage.
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
CC Rhun I'll be on hand once again to offer my views and if this weeks match will be half as good as last weeks I'll be happy.
I'm picking Lynes by UD, if people are picking him by KO expect a surprise as Young Mutley was severely weight drained when the two fought as he is a natural welter and also Lynes is not a banger.
Anyways let's hope for a good matchup and I'll see you at 10PM (PROMPT this time ) ;D JK bro

Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Ringwalks....
Tolppola looking focussed, though not looking like a big star....coming in in a T-shirt and beanie. His music is the kind of stuff you'd see on an epic whilst a small outnumbered army are marching to almost certain death in battle. Very Eastern European.
Lynes gets a huge ovation as his name is announced, and he's obviously a very popular guy, and understandably so after the pre-fight interviews. He might be the lesser name in British LWW boxers, but he's got a good following out in East London tonight. Queen's "One Vision" is a good song to walk into.
Next up, it's fight time.

Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Round 1:
Judges from Germany, Bulgaria and the Netherlands. Interesting Mix, and add that to a Spanish ref, and could make for a bit of unpredictability. There is one fairly nice looking Finnish bird in the audience cheering for Tolppola. Lynes getting a rapturous welcome as they come together for the ref's orders.
Lynes looking sharp early doors, with some sharp jabs. He's slightly taller. Good jab and straight right landing firmly. Good movement from Lynes, who's pushing Tolppola back early here. Tolppola finds gloves with a couple of jabs. Lynes jabs, but Tolppola puts in a couple of hooks, only finding arms though. Tolppola keeping a high guard. He plants his feet and throws a couple of firm hooks, finding guard though. Good body shot from Lynes. They exchange landing jabs, then a body shot from Lynes. Decent left hook finds the target for Lynes. Tolppola lands a wide right hook to the body. Lynes' stiff jab doing good work for him. Tolppola with a left to the body.
Lynes round. 10-9
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Round 1 for Lynes IMO, Lynes Jab is really well and effective and not much happening however Lynes in control in the centre of the ring and Tolppola threw hardly anything.
10-9 Lynes.
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Round 2:
It's still pretty cagey. Good counter right hook from Tolppola there as Lynes looks to land. Right to the body, but a follow up hook is blocked by Lynes. Tolppola looking more adventures. Nice left hook from Lynes, his jab still doing good work. Straight right from Lynes blocked. Lynes with a decent flurry to the body.. Not too much action this round. Tolppola falls short with a long right to the body. Lynes doubles the jab. Tolppola with a right to the body, but fairly long and looping. Two big right hooks from Lynes. Lynes with a left hook. Two good right hooks from Tolppola, and Lynes looks a little rattled on the bell.
Lynes' round.
20-18
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
I give the second 10-9 to Lynes, Tolppola caught him with a couple of good rights in the final seconds but Colin just outworking and out punching his opponent
20-18 Lynes
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Round 3:
Two body hooks from Tolppola. Lynes continuing to use the jab well. Tolppola doesn't land on the way in, and clinches. Left hook from Lynes, then gets out of range. Another good left hook from Lynes. Nice jab and right hook. Lynes working well, with a straight right and a left to the body. Uppercut from Tolppola not backed with much power, and Lynes getting his rhythm with good hooks, and Tolppola seems nonplussed as to what else he can do. Flurry of short punches find gloves. Left hook from Tolppola, but a follow-up flurry blocked weell by Lynes. Good right from Lynes, and Tolppola on his bike a little.
Lynes shutout so far.
30-27
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
3rd round better from lynes and brilliant boxing, just out jabbing and again just outworking his opponent.
30-27 Lynes

Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
I got Lynes by UD i hope it stays a cautious fight ;D
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Round 4:
Lynes moving and working well tonight, seems a KO is inevitable. Tolppola swings a wild right missing by some distance. Tolppola's jabs fall short. Right hook from Lynes lands nicely. Left hook to the body, and Lynes is blocking well as well as attacking. Left then right hook to the body from Lynes. Tolppola is backin off all the time. Good jab from Lynes, then a right. Tolppola lands a left to the body, and is looking frustrated in there. Nice right hook from Lynes again. Straight right grazes Lynes, who is pot shotting a little now. Good right hook from Lynes, and Tolppola has no answers.
Lynes again
40-36

youl'l probbably win ICB just like Colin won the 4th round with a good right hand and Tolppola is just not throwing much.
40-36 Colin lynes.

Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Round 5:
Tolppola caught on the way in with a right. Tolppola is being constantly caught with the jab, which is Lynes' best weapon. Decent right hook from Lynes, then a couple to the body. Right hook from Lynes. Tolppola finds the range a little with two jabs, but no menace on them. Good jab and straight right from Lynes. Lynes landing almost everything he throws to the bdoy then upstairs. Right hook, but Tolppola comes back with a left to the body then a right hook which lands nicely. They close and start swinging, Lynes landing up top and Tolppola to the body. Lynes with a couple more body shots, and another right hook.
Lynes shutout, but Tolppola looks like he'll go to the later rounds at least.
50-45
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
This fight is getting boring IMO as Colin is winning every round with more sheer agression and throwing more and Tolpolla is just AWFUL with a good chin.
50-45 lynes.

Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Round 6:
As always, its fairly cagey in the first segment of the round, then LYnes lands a nice right to the body. Lynes claiming centre ring, and pops the jab, then to the body. Tolppola works to the body, but his shots still look long and loopy. Lynes with the jab, then covers up well with a couple of Tolppola hooks upstairs. Lynes working well still, with a firm left hook landing nicely, and the jab with good work. Gets caught by a Tolppola on the way in, but ploughs through with a couple of hooks. More jabs from Lynes.
Lynes 60-54
UD seems like a great bet!
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
I think this could end in a late stoppage say rnd 11/12 as Tolppola is just F****** standing there throwing naff all.
Lynes winning a complete shutout so far 60-54.
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Round 7:
Lynes out of the corner early, Tolppola looking disheartened. Lynes' trainer Paul Cook says Lynes needs to put more pressure on, which seems fair. Lynes jabbing well, and poppin some hooks. Tolppola with a nice right hand backing Lynes up. Tolppola coming forward once again, but Lynes lands a hook in reply to Tolppola's. Two hooks to the body rom Tolppola, but ships a hook and a jab at the same time. Lynes circling his prey now, with Tolppola looking for more aggression. Body shot from Lynes. another flurry of hooks to the body, and Lynes still the dominant force. Jabs well again and again. Tolppola pushes Lynes to the ropes, and lands an overhand right.
Lynes. Again.
70-63
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
I'll go back on my word a UD will happen.
Round 7......just exactly the same textbook boxing and I'm getting bored!!!
70-63

Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Round 8:
Looks like Tolppola is on the way to another failed challenge for the European title. This is a boxing masterclass, but not holding too much excitement really. Lynes working well mixing jabs and hooks to the body. Left hook from Lynes, then a body shot. Tolppola isn't troubling Lynes at all, even when he does land his best punch, the right hook. Lynes jabbing well, and Tolppola already looks like he's waiting for the final bell. Tolppola rushes into a clinch. Firm jab, and this fight is starting to stagnate a little. Lynes landing good hooks to the body, upstairs and jabs, but Tolppola looks very resilient. Nice jab and straight right from Lynes. Tolppola with a left hook to the back/side of the head.
Lynes again.
80-72
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Rhun don't you find this depressing ??, I'd rather watch Cory Spinks.
80-72 Lynes same again, Colin outboxing his opponent and his opponent throwing little or nothing back.
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Round 9:
We're into the final third here. Lynes still able to win from distance with fine jabs and right hands. Tolppola lunges in, finding the guard with a right, then clinching. Lynes working the body. Straight right pierces Tolppola's guard. Left to the body, then a good left hook lands flush. Tolppola unfazed it seems. More body shots from Lynes. flurry from Tolppola, and a short rigbht lands nicely on Lynes chin. Body shots from Lynes, and the jab is relentless. Clinch, then a great jab straight right from Lynes. Tolppola comes in with two body shots and a hook, and Lynes fires back. Good finish.
Lynes 90-81. Tolppola's a trier, but he needs a lot or bingo punches that seem very unlikely.
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Floyd Mayweather v Carlos Baldomir repeat here.
Same again Lynes with the accuracy and work rate and has stuck with the job from the start.
(That was taken from Jim Watt as i didn't know what to say)
90-81 Lynes to a snoozefest UD
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Round 10:
Tolppola showing a little more ambition coming forward, and he shows the power of a guy who has started his career fighting amongst the flyweights. He may have bulked up but the power isn't really there. Lynes jabbing and landing hooks efficiently, and doing exactly what a boxer ought to do. Hitting, and not getting hit. Good left hook from Lynes, but Tolppola takes it and keeps coming. As for your question Lee, I gotta admit I think it is a problem with the replacement opponent, rather than with Lynes himself. He's doing all he can, boxing well, but Tolppola has a granite chin and not many skills, so Lynes can't really do much more. A lot more action in this round, with Tolppola coming forward again with some rights landing, but Lynes is doing the work in each round to win each one.
100-90 Lynes.
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Boxing excellent Lynes to a clear cut UD and Lefty is on course to win his Joker pick ;D.
104-6 jabs landed to Lynes throughout.
100-90 Lynes.
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Round 11:
Lynes opening up trebling up that jab to Tolppola's mug. Tolppola with a few rights to the body, and Lynes returns them. Lynes' jab has won him this fight without doubt. It's firm enough to discourage Tolppola from coming forward. They're trading more now, and rights to the body from Tolppola are returned in flurries by Lynes. Tolppola with a left hook, but Lynes with some flashy looking hooks up top too. Lynes is boxing in straight lines, and Tolppola looking to throw punches that are more loopy and wider. Lynes still pushing out the jab, and the occasional hooks. Tolppola looks like it'd take a smack with a baseball bat to put him down.
Lynes. 110-99
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
110-99 to Lynes now.
He has this in the bag and well done to everybody who predicted UD or POINTS win as you have won and if Colin scores a KO in rnd 12 I will CC you all.
Glad there is only 3 minutes left. ;D
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Round 12:
Last round in what looks like being a faultless shutout from Lynes, but no KO. Tolppola comes forward with some hooks to the body, but they don't look to faze Lynes much. Good jabs, then short hooks to the body from Lynes. Tolppola comes forward, but the body shots won't win him anything at this time of the fight. Right hook to the gloves of Lynes, who comes back with jabs and hooks up top. Tolppola wrestles a bit and throws a hook on the inside. Lynes jabbing and short hook, and they trade simultaneous right hooks to the body. Lynes ducks two Tolppola hooks, then clinches. Jab, right to the body, then a fine left hook lands for Lynes. Tolppola looks alert for the first time. Lynes with hooks up top. Tolppola fighting to the very end.
120-108 shutout.
Lynes set up well for his Branco fight at the end of Feb. If a ref gives one round to Tolppola I'd be very surprised.
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Finally it's over
120-108 complete shutout and i'm surprised I never fell asleep.
Well done Rhun see you next time
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
120-108
120-108
119-109
ALL UD FOR LYNES WLL DONE ICB AND OTHERS..........
-
Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
Yup, Lynes gets the points win, hangs on to his EBU strap very comfortably, and pretty much as perfect a warm-up fight as he could ask for. Tolppola wanted to come forward, but lacked power and boxing ability to trouble Lynes too much. 12 good active rounds for him, and a little more competitive than sparring.

Re: British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title
OK guys...washing the sticky offa this one so we can dig in to Amir Khan v Gairy St Clair next Saturday, and also whatever Sky are showing on friday night...which I believe is Tony Oakey v Peter Haymer.
