Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
I will add any others anybody can think of.

Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
Hatton hates Junior witter, why would you give somebody you hate alot of money when you really have nothing to gain in any way whatsoever. If hatton won everyone in the uk will say "oh it was only junior witter" and everyone in the us will say "who is junior witter?". Hatton has spent his whole career getting to where he is now, he just fought the best fighter on the planet and theres no way hes gonna let witter in to his story and raise his profile (and bank balance) by giving him a shot unless he completely has to.

Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
High risk and i suppose Hatton sees it as low reward...Although clearly showing the public your the number 1 light welter in the world is hardly what I would call low reward

Exactly, not giving somone a payday is the stupidest excuse in boxing history, plenty of people get in the ring with guys they hate. Hatton says Witter badmouths him, well the best way to shut him up is beat him up in the ring.
There is a high risk in fighting Witter, but more reward in winning than fighting any other guy from Junior Wellter or below.

Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
The reason he isn't fighting him yet is perfectly simple.
At the moment Witter is only really known by hardcore boxing fans, even in the UK.
In March he is fighting on HBO. If he impresses he will most likely fight Malignaggi. If he impresses again. he will get his shot.
Hatton has just fought the best fighter on the planet and the payday he recieved was out of this world. So basically his next high risk fight will have to be a super fight again....one that will earn him a lot of money.
If Witter keeps impressing on HBO, The showdown with Hatton becomes a super-fight, especially in the UK. Hatton's camp are smart enought to realise that the longer this simmers, the more lucrative it becomes....especially seen as tho both these guys can clear up at 140 between them.
That's all he is waiting for. He will fight Witter.....but probably not until next year.
Basically it's the same as what Mayweather did to Hatton.

Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
Ive gone with to much risk also Hatton is so far up his own arse he thinks because he has won 4 world titles only 1 coming against a top fighter and the fact he has fought Mayweather he thinks he is to good for Witter.Hatton's excuses dont even hold water saying stuff like i dont want to give him his biggest payday when Witter has already said he will take a small purse for the fight.Hatton is 43-1 and has built himself a good reputation but he could spoil that by not fighting Witter both Hatton fans and none Hatton fans want to see this fight. Ricky stop fucking about and make the fight we need to get this across to Hatton that his fans want this fight.
-
Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
I voted this one.
To much risk.Scared he will lose
People keep saying about how Hatton fought Mayweather, Tszyu, so why would he be scared of fighting Witter ?? its simple folks because Hatton had nothing to lose fighting Mayweather, Tszyu. He has everything to lose fighting Witter, Hatton would never get over losing to his bitter rival and etc. Hatton fans argue that Witter isn't that much of a name at the moment, well i will return that question back to the Hatton fans and say what name did the virtually unknowns Collazo, Urango, have ?? and why was Hatton considering fighting Rees then ?? face it everyone knows Witter is 2nd or 3rd best Jr Welterweight in the world, Witter is now fighting Hopkins in USA so if Witter does a good job on Hopkins then what will Hatton's excuse be ?? sorry but i think this is BS. Witter deserves his shot vs Hatton its a fight the fans want to see, who else can Hatton fight ?? Paulie ?? Paulie did not impress in his last fight and got a highly controversial decision, so i doubt Paulie will take a fight vs Hatton, Rees ?? Torres ?? both of these guys are even less of a name than Witter is, Witter is the most dangerous fight for Hatton at Jr Welterweight, Hatton knows it so do most of the fans, he knows he has everything to lose against Witter so he will try and avoid the fight as long as possible, and will hope that Witter loses to one of other top Jr Welterweights.
-
Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
Frankly I don't care if he wants to fight him or not. After Hatton lossed to Mayweather this fight became inevitable. It will happen sooner or later as long as Witter does not lose.
-
Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
I wouldnt mind seeing Hatton against Witter. Im most curious to see how Hatton rebounds off of the Floyd fight. I really hope Ricky bounces back (to use an Alan Partridge-ism) and does so against credible opposition.
-
Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
-
Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
I think it's a mixture of the first two. I really belive for whatever reason hatton is not completely confident that he can beat witter. I think he would like nothing more than to shut witter up and whoop his ass but the possiblitlty of that not happening no matter how small is too much for hatton to risk. Risk vs reward is my guess.
-
Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
High Risk, low reward, low profile.
Witter, still has some work to do as far as PR goes.
-
Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
Because he loves him and want to bum him
-
Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
simply its due to the fact that Witter is quick and has an akward style which will cause Hatton all kinds of trouble and if Hatton were to lose hes finished. Where could he go after losing to an average champion?
-
Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
Not a big name yet, does not want to give him a penny.
-
Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
I like Hatton so I feel abit guilty for voting the 1st ioption of "scared to fight " but lets face the facts . He is avoiding this fight at all costs .
Boxing is about beating rivals and throughout Hattons career Junior has been his main rival . Lets just see the fu**in fight Ricky . Stop moaning etc . Its a tough game and if you lose you lose . What does Junior have to do .
If it doesnt happen then people will just think Hatton was the one who ran cuz Witter kept publicly calling him out . Everyone can think what they want but to me its obvious .
The debates shifting in Witters favour now . Whereas before he was just an irritant , now people are taking his side and wana make it happen . The way I see it Ricky has nowhere to run and if he doesnt step up to the plate and be man then he will lose alot of credibility .

Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
Hatton is avoiding Witter.
It'sok to lose to Floyd or Tzyu But when he loses to Witter his career is over.

Hatton is a coward for avoiding Witter in the same way that Bernard Hopkins is a coward for bottling the Calzaghe fight he'd previously agreed to a few years ago. Managing your career to make as much money as you can isn't cowardly. If there were no better money-making options available to Hatton than Witter, he'd take the fight. He may end up in a situation in the future where he takes the fight, we don't know. But calling him cowardly is just silly. Constantly denigrating foreign fighters to try and get reactions on a messageboard is also very silly, although if I also was an unemployable misfit living in my mother's basement I'd need something to fill my day in too.

So that would make Calzaghe a coward for punking out 3 times against Glen Johnson.
Back to the subject at hand. There's no good reason why Hatton doesn't fight Witter. Besides fear. Let me break this down for you so you can understand. I'm not going to use any decent size words cuz I know they confuse you. Hatton has said he will not give Witter a big payday. Is the money coming out his pocket or something? No it's not. So who gives a fuck what the promoters pay Witter. Not only that Witter has said he will take the small purse to fight Hatton. So Hatton's money excuse is just that. An excuse. Another thing is Hatton wants Witter to become more known. He's already the number 2 140 pounder. He's not going to get more known. If this fight happens it takes place in the UK. Not the US. In the UK both have there fans.
You know what? Now that I think about it, I can see Hatton fighting Witter in the future. Maybe a year or two from now. Since Witter is 33. In a couple of years he will be 35, 36. He won't be as fast. And his reflexes will be slower. By than I wouldn't be surprise to see Hatton jump at the chance to fight him. His whole career has been pattern that way. Come on now. Hatton might have you and his other groupies fool. But not me. Fighting fighters that are past there best is what Hatton is all about.

Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
I'd say it's a combination of a bunch of different factors.
Witter has a very difficult and awkard style, he's not a huge name so he wouldn't bring a huge payday, Hatton probably doesn't want to give in and let Witter bait him into a fight, etc.

It's ridiculous to suggest Calzaghe would be troubled by somebody on the same level as Clinton Woods. Calzaghe is in a class far above guys like that, as will be shown when he beats your boy Hopkins like a gong in April. If you can't appreciate Calzaghe, you don't have a clue about boxing.
As far as Hatton picking and timing his fights, you do follow the fight business don't you? That's what every fighter does. They trade on their last win or their big support or reputation gained by beating a name guy just past his best or the various other things that press the buttons of the fight public to secure the most lucrative future options for themselves. You having this obsessive need to single out foreign fighters to criticise for something boxers have done since the advent of professional boxing says more about your particular curious mental state than it does about any boxer you may be denigrating.
And with that, the weekend beckons. Enjoy whatever exciting stuff you've got lined up over the next couple of days.

Maybe once or twice it's acceptable for a fighter to fight a past his prime fighter. But Hatton takes it to another level. Nobody fights as many old fighters as Hatton. All his biggest wins have been against fighters past there best. When he fights fighters in there prime he gets his ass whipped (Mayweather, Collazo). So I would not be shocked if Hatton waits for Witter to get older before he fights him. He's been doing it his whole career.

Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
I do not buy the argument that states Hatton dislikes Witter, therefore he will not allow him to have a pay day. This is the most absurd reasoning I have ever heard in boxing. First, if you dislike someone in boxing, it is more of an impetus to get that person in the ring. Second, if you are going to get paid while fighting someone you dislike, that is another impetus to get someone in the ring. So why doesn't Hatton make that fight happen? The only logical conclusion is that Hatton is afraid of losing to Witter, a legitimate threat. If Witter wasn't a legitimate threat, Hatton would take the money and run as anyone would. Hatton has too much to lose in a fight with Witter and I think his confidence level has been shaken a bit due to his loss to Floyd.

Re: Why wont Hatton fight Witter? VOTE NOW!!!
If Hatton fights Witter and loses how bad will that be for him after Witter has been calling him out for 8 years now.

Once or twice? How about Joe Louis's bum-of-the-month club? It's hard to find a champion who hasn't had endless tomato cans on his record. Oscar fought a lot of top guys back in his prime, but up until last year the boxing game was full of champions takingeasy matches. Again, you singling out certain people to criticise about doing it says far more about you than it does about them. Especially after Hatton just moved up a weight to fight the pound for pound number one in the city he lives in.
