Mosley Mayorga in the pipeline?
Yeah,I read this from Steve Kim, one of the best writers on the net who is usually spot on a long time before anyone else. What do you guys think? I think it's a waste for Shane, who could have made himself available for the Williams fight and guys like Clottey around too. What does he gain from beating Mayorga and why the heck is Mayorga back in the picture just because he beat the shot to pieces Vargas? Shouldn't he at least fight a contender at 47/54?
-
Re: Mosley Mayorga in the pipeline?
Hold on, who battered Shane to his first defeat and what did mayorga do to him?
mayorga was way more effective in his last fight than Mosely was in his
-
Re: Mosley Mayorga in the pipeline?
MOsley could fight Zab. maybe Clottey

Doesn't work like that bro. Just because A beat B and B beat C, does't mean A beats C. Yeah Puya, I'd love a Mosley v Clottey fight, but no-one except Margarito seems to have the balls to fight Clottey.

Re: Mosley Mayorga in the pipeline?
Didnt Baldomir beat Clottey in England?

Yeah he did, but via DQ. Clottey was winning that fight on all the judges scorecards, until he was disqualified. Baldomir would have needed a stoppage/lots of knockdowns to win the fight on the judges scorecards(highly unlikely it would have happened)

the math got me a bit confused....lol and im goin to be an accountant soon ....rofl
but i think with mayorga's mouth this fight would make money. it would also teach mayorga a lesson for calling out all these pd for pd ppl that he thinks he can beat

How do you mean, more effective... He was perhaps more effective against that fossil that used to be Vargas, than Mosley was against Cotto... But there's no comparison between the two opponents at this point. Mosley also KO'ed Vargas twice before Ricardo beat him on points, and he had a lot more vitality against Mosley. Going by how each fighter LOOKED in their last fight, Mosley puts him in the hospital, easy. Mayorga looked like shit against Vargas, all blown up and rusty. Vargas was just that spent. Mayorga actually outboxed him at 162. I mean come on, you can't really put any stock in that. I hope Mosley fights someone dangerous at WW, he's still a top fighter. I think he'd whip Cintron, Margarito, Clottey, and I'd give him a chance against Williams too. I think he actually did well enough to deserve a rematch with Cotto.. Certainly would be a better fight than Gomez... But I do understand why Arum is giving Cotto a less physical fight.

That could have something to do with the fact that Mayorga was fighting a corpse with a beer gut and Mosley was fighting one of the top 5 or 6 fighters PFP in the world.

Whoa...hold on. Mayorga beating Forest doesn't mean crap when it come to him matching up with Mosley. Matchups make fight and Vernon was a bad matchup for Shane. The punch that beats Shane Mosely is the jab - Forest, Winky, and Cotto all have good or great jabs, and their successes against Mosley came from working effectively off the jab to negate his speed. Mayorga doesn't have the jab, nevermind overall skill of Cotto, Winky, or Forest.
Secondly, Shane lost a very close fight with against top level, in his prime fighter, a borderline p4p top ten, certainly top 15 p4p. It's not like he got blown out. Mayorga beat up a fat, shot Vargas who Shane destroyed twice already, just as easily. Shane may have lost to Cotto, but do you think for a second that Mosley wouldn't beat Vargas, even Shane came in at 147 and Mayorga game in at 170?
The fight would probably be bigger money fight than Williams, and I'm guessing Shane will want to retire with a win and a nice payday. Mayorga fits that bill quite nicely.

Re: Mosley Mayorga in the pipeline?
This fight would have been iteresting if it had happen March 13th 2004 like it was oringaly going to happen but Mayorga got outboxed by Spinks In Dec of 2003 which canceled out the shane mayorga fight. Shane went on to lose to Winky Wright March 13th 2004.
now i have no intrest in a mayorga shane fight. matter fact my interest in mayorga hasn't been the same since the loss to trinadad.
-
Re: Mosley Mayorga in the pipeline?
I was kinda looking forward to a rematch between Mayorga and Forrest.... oh well.
I do like this match up though and if Mayorga gets in shape it could be competitive and entertaining as most matches that involve Mayorga are.
I am curious on how Mosley's mind set will be going into the fight. In the interviews after the Cotto fight it seemed to me that he realized the end is neer for him. Even though he did put on a great fight. However, Mayorga is just the kind of fighter that will get you and your fans hopes up after fighting (see Trinidad and DLH).
-
Re: Mosley Mayorga in the pipeline?
Shane likes to scrap and takes punches, Mayorga would win I reckon, Shane aint the type of fighter who would try and out box Mayorga and I could see him getting caught, at the same weight Mayorgas chin is alot better and his power is better too, Shane couldnt take Vernons best shots but Ricardo could, Shane couldnt put Vernon away but Ricardo did.
In his last fight Mayorga did things that were sensible and lasted the 12 rounds in good fashion at a hefty pace, Shane lost gas and was just pot shotting in a slow paced affair.
At this stage of their careers I see mayorga having more in the tank and taking it on points ;D

Re: Mosley Mayorga in the pipeline?
Whilst I'd like to see Mayorga get another high profile fight so his cheques stop bouncing I'd really rather see him upset Vernon Forrest again.
Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to watch Vernon Forrest attempt to wipe out his demons and erase the bitter memories of those defeats to an unskilled, chain smoking slugger but once again get blown out inside 4 rounds and have El Matador carried aloft, arms crossed across his chest with a cigarette in his mouth 8)

I will always regret missing this period of boxing. From about 2001-2004 I stopped watching and miss some great moments like Mosley getting beat by Forrest and Mayorga KOing him. Also missed Jones fall. Mayorga being carried out with a cigarate in his mouth after KOing Forrest must have been fun to watch.

Re: Mosley Mayorga in the pipeline?
Sugar Shane Mosley, not only did you go in put up a crappy fight and made that bum Cotto look better than what he really is, and now your thinking about fighting a wash up loser that hasn't won a a significant fight in five years. You just hit rock bottom my man. Won't you fight your wife, since she got you pu$$y whipped and have taken your spine a long time ago.

IS that you Mayorga or a friend of his? LOL

Re: Mosley Mayorga in the pipeline?
Mayorga is awesome to watch, he would be the man to get the fans back
I think he takes Mosley, Shane is finnished, in fact ever since that balco scandal came out and hes been watched for steroids he hasnt done as well, same as Jones.
Ricardo is an animal and even carrying an extra stone he can still fight hard all night long, Shane just aint got it in him any more to keep Mayorga off for 12 rounds, at welter or light middle I dont see Shane hurting Ricardo
Id like to see Mayorga take Shane down like he would have if he hadnt lost to Spinks and then give williams a hard time like he did to Forrest ;D :)

Re: Mosley Mayorga in the pipeline?
Say it ain't so...
I don't wanna see my boy get his ass beat again. ;D
-
Re: Mosley Mayorga in the pipeline?
What makes you think he would
Mosley keeps talking about retirement, hes only sticking around to make the big money or try his luck against Mayweather, he wouldnt take a stay busy fight against an up and comer, hes hoping Mayorga has had it ::**
Mayorga is a hard man and has plenty of life left ;D

I just don't think Mayorga can really hurt Mosley. And he damn sure can't outbox him. So what does that mean? Another big payday and another loss.
I'd be rootin for Mayorga the whole way though to land a big shot and jump all over Mosley or outwork him or something.

Re: Mosley Mayorga in the pipeline?
Unless Vernon has some sort of mental black when it comes to mayorga i don't think mayorga wins the 3rd fight. Vernon was only Koed in the first fight because he brawled instead of boxed. in the 2nd fight vernon fought scared but still alot of people thought he won that fight. If vernon had fought the 1st fight like he had fought the 2nd fight he would have gotten the desicion IMO. no use bringing up coulda shoulda woulda's
I think Vernon could outbox mayorga in a 3rd fight.
Mayorga should have never moved up to 160 to fight tito. mayorga was like a bull at 147 but after fighting at 160 and comming down he never seemed the same to me.

Only reason he left 147 is cus they screwed him outta his titles against that coward Cory Spinks. And then Mayorga came in heavy in his fight with Jose Antonio Rivera which woulda been for a belt at 147, Rivera pulled out and Mayorga had to face Journyman Eric "Murder" Mitchell in a 154 lb fight, which he won easily but not impressively.
Only fights my man has looked good in since then are his wins over Picarillo for the WBC belt and his last fight of course against Vargas where it looked like he learned how to box a little.

Re: Mosley Mayorga in the pipeline?
Yea puya we are great friends i'm watching his kids right now. LOL Mayorga is gonna knock his ass out. Mosley don't move his head for Sh!t. I couldn't get out of the way if someone threw a bowling ball at him.

Well I would rather see SSM mix it up with the Top Welters...
Then again we all know that a Mayorga fight makes more $en$e ;)

Mosley's faster hands would punisg Mayorga and eventually stop him.

Re: Mosley Mayorga in the pipeline?
This fight is useless to Mosley if he wants to remain in the championship-run picture. Mayorga is rightly where he belongs: the garbage heap. He could have punched a hole through Vargas and it wouldn't matter- it's still Vargas. Mosley would do better to fight someone at least on the cusp of something like Clottey, maybe a rematch with Collazo or someone in that area. Is Mayorga even ranked at WW?

I think most people on here would rather see a Mayorga vs. Mosley matchup rather than a damn Collazo rematch.

Uh...the Mayorga fight. He already dominated Collazo who is at the bottom of the top 10 these days.
