P4P Best punchers All time
I have not seen this in a while so I felt we should do it again.
And when I say punchers I mean guys who really knew how to get the most out of their punching power and knew how to put their punches together and finish you when they had you hurt. Not cecesarily the hardest one punch hitters.
I'm terrible at making lists (did this mostly to get your opinions) but I'll give it a try. With no particular order.
Julian Jackson
Mike Tyson
Wilfredo Gomez
Thomas Hearns
Ray Robbinson
George Foreman
Alexis Arguello
Joe Louis
Jack Dempsey
Gerald McLellan
Honor mention: Carlos Zerate, Felix Trinidad, Lennox Lewis amng others
I know I'm missing some of the older guys but if I have not even seen a higlight of them I won't post them.

Re: P4P Best punchers All time
.....Rocky Marciano is not on your list?!?!?!
-
Re: P4P Best punchers All time
Shavers, Dempsey, Zarate, Tyson, Hearns, Duran, Pacquaio down under 120. WW Robinson, Foreman, WW Robinson, Middleweight Roy Jones Jr., Julain Jackson, Gerald McClellan, Nigel Benn, Joe Louis there are a lot more, but Zarate in particular is probably the hardest puncher p4p the sport has ever seen.
Guys like marciano weren't the biggest ko type fighters, he wore out a lot guys over several rounds. He was a harder p4p puncher than Cotto, but it was the same idea.

Greb wasn't a big puncher he only had 48 KO's out of like 260 wins, Greb was a volume puncher not a devastating puncher.

But Juan is big for his division whilst Guzman is small at 130.

Re: P4P Best punchers All time
All the guys mentioned above are good choices, but I think the undisputed #1 P4P best puncher of all time has to be Julian Jackson. That guy has sick, sick power.
-
Re: P4P Best punchers All time
How In the hell do we have a P4P Puncher list without Archie Moore ???
-
Re: P4P Best punchers All time
ICB has a pretty much on point list.....As far as HW with Shavers goes IMO Shavers may be the hardest hitter P4P period...
BTW CC Ice for having Marciano at CW
-
Re: P4P Best punchers All time
Vitali with his 35 wins 34 kos can't be overlooked.
-
Re: P4P Best punchers All time
Surprised Naz has been over-looked to be honest.
He'd be up there on my list somewhere.

No, this is my list. Those were sombody elses, not the same see.
Anyway I was trying to concentrate more on guys who were really great at putting punches together to devastating effect. And on great finishers. Not just raw power punchers like the other threads.

Re: P4P Best punchers All time
Round of CCs to all. Thanks for your input and the jokes as well ;D

Re: P4P Best punchers All time
Who has the most KO's ever? Archie Moore isn't it?...have to give a guy who knocked out over 100 people the best puncher title.Funny fact Archie's the only guy who fought Marciano AND Ali...didn't make it easy for himself did he lol
-
Re: P4P Best punchers All time
Bqack to talking about power.
Naturally Julian Jackson is on damn near everybodies list.
Gerald McClellan deserves a mention.
p4p well you can't ignore Thomas Hearns at welter.
Jimmy Wilde, always to be remebered.
[b]Alexis Arguello and Kostya Tszyu.
Carlos Monzon was pretty destructive although perhaps not in one punch.
-
Re: P4P Best punchers All time
??? Why the hell didn't i think about Jimmy Wilde thats a good call 99 KO's at his weight.
-
Re: P4P Best punchers All time
He was a great little boxer, watching him was like watching a violent ballet whilst holding fast forward!!!

Re: P4P Best punchers All time
Duran was never a devastating puncher, even as a lightweight. He had very good power, in all his shots, but even at 135 he wore guys down. He retained his power throughout the 15 rounds which was remarkable, but he should never be included in such a list. Nigel Benn's inclusion at super middle is myopic to say the least. Benn didn't carry his firepower up to SM and his records reveals everything you need to know. Even as a middle weight, in true world class company, he wasn't nearly as devastating as say Jackson or Mcellen. Not even in the same ballpark.
Hearns hit harder than Norris did at JR middle, no question. And the gold toothed swaggering Mexican Oliveres is a must inclusion.

Duran knocked out guys over 30 pounds above where he started, he's included. He also made Leonard forget about 4 rounds of their first fight with one left hook, Hearns wasn't ever able to do anything like that. Also about Nigel Benn watch him against McClellan again, he was easily hitting as hard as Gerald.

Tyson and then Jackson for me, Jackson was devastating, could you have imagined a Trinidad Vs Jackson fight, remember the destruction of Norris

Benn was still a very devastating puncher at Super Middleweight his power didn't change that much, if Benn isn't in your *list* then who else should be at Super Middleweight then ?? Jackson never fought at Super Middleweight, McClellan only fought once at Super Middleweight vs Benn and he lost so you cannot rate him at Super Middleweight, And as for Benn's power he did KO Barkley, Dewitt who went 12 rounds with Hearns, and he also was the only boxer to ever stop Robbie Sims as well.
I already included Hearns at Welterweight i don't put 2 of the same boxers in my lists, thats why i put Norris at Jr Middleweight otherwise i would of put Jackson twice at Jr Middleweight and Middleweight. And Olivares almost made my list but IMO Zarate is one of the best KO artists of all time so he for certain deserves to be there IMO.

I like to put Greb in everything. But I tried to think and I put in the wrong guy. I meant to put in Wilde like Donny did thats why I gave him CC. He was probably the dirtiest fighter ever though.

Re: P4P Best punchers All time
How about today.
Pavlik , Miranda , Pacman , Vitali ,
How would Pavlik or Miranda compare to Jackson and Robinson? I dont know. Miranda can punch with any middle weight out there for the last two decades so can Pavlik. They both have Tyson like numbers with all of the first round knockouts and knock out percentage. I think pound for pound its Shavers. No , not cause he is from Northeast Ohio ( Youngstown) but beacuse Tex Cobb said so. Ali said so. And Foreman admitted ducking him.
