Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=14224&more=1
Dont know about you guys but I believe him. I love the part when he says the "I'll never lose to a white boy" comment was just pantomime.

Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
Nobody has ever smashed Hopkins up. And Calzaghe won't be the first. If anything I see Hopkins smashing Calzaghe. William Joppy style
-
Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
If the fight is even close then the judges are going to give it to Hopkins. Calzaghe is going to have to dominate to win and he will. With the extra seven pounds he may even stop Hopkins.
-
Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
Calzaghe is younger and stronger he might just do it, but hopkins has been around the block a few times also, its going to be a good fight!
-
Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
This is going to be a great fight and I have no idea who is going to win. I'm leading towards Calzaghe based on age and workrate, but I wouldn't be surprised if B-Hop somehow pulled out the victory.

Yeah but you saw Lacy and Kessler smashing Calzaghe so this might complete your trilogy of wishful thinking.

Show me a post where I picked Lacy over Calzaghe. You can't. Cuz they don't exist. I knew Lacy was overrated from beginning.

Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
I'm not sure if Calzaghe is going to "smash Hopkins up," but I am sure that he's going to give Bernard the boxing clinic of a lifetime. Hopkins will be lucky to win 2 rounds.
The only thing that sucks for Calzaghe about this fight is that after he's done dominating Hopkins, everybody is going to say that Hopkins was too old and had this fight taken place ___ years ago that the result would have been different; when in reality, the Calzaghe of today would bury Hopkins at any point in his career.
It's too bad that Joe fought spent nearly his whole career in the UK, because had he come to America much earlier in his career, he would easily be a household name on par with Oscar Delahoya and Roy Jones Jr. Although I'm not so sure that he beats RJJ at 168.
-
Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
Joe will not be facing Lacy once again.I like Calzaghe,His gusto and attitude and willingness to mix it up.He wears his emotions on his sleeve but to think he Is going to school Hopkins is off.
Hopkins can be extremely frustrating (to his fans),sometimes a little to cutesy,10 times over to his opponent's.On this one I think Hopkins will look to offset Calzaghe's tempo and bring It into a Hopkins-esque Clinic on Calzaghe.
This will be the most face first pressure Hopkins has faced as of late but Joe has never been in with this much guile and ring generalship.Age is not a factor here,43 or 35.....whatever!Calzaghe will look to KO Hopkins, where as Hopkins just wants to beat people up.
Great fight all around. And In my opinion Jones does not deserve either one.
-
Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
Calzaghe doesnt smash people up, he accumulates points. He will probably win the majority of rounds but he wont bust up BHOP. If near prime RJJ couldnt bust up a less experienced Hopkins Joe C sure as hell isnt going to.

CC for great post and I agree especially with the point that he would beat hopkins at any point in their careers.

Have u actually ever watched a prime Hopkins? To say that Calzaghe would beat Hopkins at any point in his career is just wrong. It would be a close fight that either man could have won.

I've seen many prime Hopkins fights, and still stick with my statement. Hopkins is an all time great, imo, but Joe Calzaghe is even better.

My comment was not aimed at u mate cos from reading your posts (other than the Zab ones) u do seem to have a reasonable knowledge of boxing. I dont like the way some guys only follow one fighter and just go on about how good he is.
-
Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
Lets just let the fight happen, I can't see either guy putting on a boxing clinic though, Clazaghe is too fast, skilled, and in shape for B-Hop to do what he did against Tarver. And Hopkins is too good of a fighter for Calzaghe do to what he did against Lacy or even what he did against Kessler(he didn't really dominated that fight) because Hopkins is much trickier than either or both of them combined.
-
Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
I am going with Joe C on this one...After the Kessler fight I became a true Calzaghe fan and true believer of his abilities......Calzaghe takes this fight on points and heads back home with a
45-0
Record ;)
-
Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
Calzaghe looks very weak at S Middle. Im expecting the extra weight to really pay off for him and bash Hopkins up good style. Wont stop him, but it could be ugly.
-
Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
Let's all be honest here.... does anybody have that small voice in the back of their mind that is telling them this is going to be a boring hit and hold fest with lots of head rubbing..
I can't help feeling I'm going to have that feeling I feel when I switch off the T.V, absolutely knackered after sitting up untill 4:00am thinking .. " Why the FUCK did I stay up for that!!"
-
Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
Calzaghe wins close decision against Hopkins then gets hammered by Roy Jones Jr ;)

Hell yeah I've seen him fight in his so-called prime. He was just as dirty then. He's a scumbag racist. Joe would have beaten hopkins at any point and u better believe that.
I just wish hopkins didn't have the built in excuse of old age right now so Joe would get his due credit when he beats him up. Winky beat hopkins but was robbed and any1 who doesnt think so is a biased hopkins fan. Winky faded late but still did enough early to wim despite hopkins despicable dirty tactics.
hopkins is gonna get beaten up and all I can say is, "better late than never".
All that dirty stuff won't work against Joe trust me. hopkins became a legend to u guys by beating 2 way undersized superstars of the sport. Period.

Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
Hopkins will be fouling like a madman in there. I would normally pick Joe to win easily, but he has to be careful because Hopkins will be trying to cut him up and try to take Joe off his game plan. Hopkins more often than not gets away with with his tactics. He can make them look so accidental ;D
Joe can get cut so you had better believe Bernard will try to exploit that weakness.

I agree that hes gonna try to foul like crazy. Its his only hope of making the fight respectable on points.

Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
Oh,I so hope he beats up on Hopkins! I neeeeed to see that and I think the extra weight is going to help Joe immensely! I respect B Hop for his srecord but his style, his acting up for the cameras and BS coming from his mouth is just boring and annoying. I'm glad Joe hasn't stooped to his level.
And it's ironic but if Joe wins,B Hop was old,if B Hop wins,he'll get all the credit in the world!Hopefully he'll lose.

I said Tarver not Winky

Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
Lets dispell some myths shall we?
Dirty, you mean like Antwun Echols hip tossing Bernard and separating his shoulder dirty,or do you mean Keith Holmes having his trunks around his nipples dirty?
Undersized opponents, you mean like Antonio Tarver?Keith Holmes?,William Joppy? The same Felix Trinidad who gave a good showing at 170?Glen Johnson?Howard Eastman?,Im counting 4 titelists in there, not one titelist with a busted hand, and severly overated one in Lacy, and one who retired 10 years ago
The youth factor, yeah you just feel like a spring freaking chicken at 35
Work rate,uh huh, tell that to Tarver
Frankly I think this is a stupid fight for Bernard to take,it adds absolutely nothing to his legacy if he wins,he's more or less proven everything he has to,Joe I can see it,a big name and he finally proves he can travel.
But to give those reasons for Bernard not being great is just being moronic,I have no idea on earth whose going to win,but the macho posturing is just silly, assuming a slap handed hook fighter like Calzaghe is going to actually knock out Hopkins is even sillier.
If Joe wins,he's going to win on points, and I can see it happening,Bernard does have a tendency to start slow, and even though he doesnt land as often as it looks,Joe's work rate could change the tide in his favour.
Now if you want an honest assesment of the fight,it comes down to Bernards movement and use of the jab/Joes ability to swarm and take shots coming in
-
Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
Joe has all the skill set and virtuoso qualities of a fighter that Always rises to the challenge.. Look for him to win 10 rounds to 2 with a flash knockdown for Joe seeing that he is relentless with angles and Nard just ducks his head and wings right hands and clinches....

Irrelevant.
There's "fanboys" of every BIG name fighter on this site - Cotto, Hatton, Floyd, Ruiz etc.
To single out Calzaghe "fanboys" as being the solely responsible ruiners of the site, clearly indicates you have a problem with one Joseph Calzaghe.

Re: Calzaghe: I'm Going To Smash Hopkins Up!
I give a respect to Calzaghe n all his accomplishments e acheived later in his career, but Hopkins is no pushover and always finds ways to win fights via Winky, Taylor(yes I said Taylor), Tarver, Joppy, Echos, etc. and he will do the same in this fight! Hopkins only gets better with age & his clock doesn't seem to wanna run out!!!!

It's got to run out some time and i think Calzaghe is the man to retire Hopkins.

if calzaghe wins-then every1 will say--"oh he just beat an old man" and if hopkins wins- he should retire, cuz this victory will seal his legacy
