Will Wlad Klitchsko enter P4P top ten if he beats Ibragimov??
Okay if he wins this unification fight it means he would own the WBO,IBF,IBO Heavyweight championship belts and also the wins he has over Brock, Peter, Bryd, McCline, Brewster etc and Ibragimov so would that be enough for him to sneak into top ten P4P.
For myself he would especially if Calzaghe is number 3 or 4. (No disrespect to Joe BTW)

No...I wouldn't put him in anyway as far as i see it the current Top 10..are just plain better boxers than Klitchsko....You could make a good argument for him though.

One thing I don't get is how is Joe C so high when Klitchsko is not even in people's top 15

Klitschko hasn't beaten the best in his division Calzaghe has, Calzaghe also gets his ranking for his accomplishments of making 20+ title defenses, what also hurts Wlad is his 3 brutal KO losses, i could name 15 boxers that should be rated higher than Wlad no problem.
Juan Diaz
Joe Calzaghe
Floyd Mayweather Jr
Kelly Pavlik
Manny Pacquiao
Israel Vasquez
Rafael Marquez
Juan Manuel Marquez
Joan Guzman
Winky Wright
Ivan Calderon
Miguel Cotto
Ricky Hatton
Bernard Hopkins
Christian Mijares

That could be a factor his 3 KO lossses and also how bad the heavyweight division is ATM.

Re: Will Wlad Klitchsko enter P4P top ten if he beats Ibragimov??
Yep Joe C only got himself into the p4p rating recently..Just after Lacy.Personally I feel he should have been higher sooner, but the opponents wern't there so Joes fault, noone else's.But he got himself in based on his lacy performance and solidified his place based on the Kessler performance.
It baffles me B-Hop is higher than Joe but my opinion on that is that he just loOked plain poor in his last couple of fights...Yet the ring have nothing but praise for B-Hop.But based on B-Hops opponents he deserves it.

Too many question marks on him, and the division is a mess.

Are you sure he will own The Ring Heavyweight Championship?
He doesnt at the moment, and Ibragimov is only ranked 6th by The Ring, so it doesnt fit with their usual policy (= the belt is given only to the winner of #1 vs. #2 or - if no. 2 & 3 are considered pretty much equal - #1 vs. #3).
(It doesnt actually matter as for the point you are trying to make - your post just left me wondering)

Re: Will Wlad Klitchsko enter P4P top ten if he beats Ibragimov??
i believe he should, he is clearly the best heavyweight in the division no matter how poor it is at the moment.

No problem mate.
I heard if he does then yes he wins the vacant Ring heavyweight belt as they are awarded also for Unified Champions i.e David Haye, Ricky Hatton etc and Wlad would own the WBO and IBF so he would become Ring champ.

Re: Will Wlad Klitchsko enter P4P top ten if he beats Ibragimov??
No. He lost to a South African journeyman and wouldn't get back in the ring with him to avenge the defeat. No real champion would have avoided that fight. No even credible chllenger either. The heavyweight division is a shower of shit right now, as evidenced by the fact that 40 year old fat boy Matt Skelton (full-time removal man and part time boxer) gave one of the belt holders whose name ends in ov a relatively close fight recently. Vlad is just the biggest pile of shit in a shit division. Discussing whether somebody who lost to Corrie Sanders and then wouldn't face him again is a pound for pound guy is nuts. He isn't even close to being a legitimate champion, even if he's the top pile of shit right now at heavyweight.

I don't think that's how it works. Hatton was Ring champ when he beat Kostya Tszyu because Tszyu was the previous Ring champ.
I think Wlad would have to beat the Peter/Maskaev winner to be Ring champ, since that guy would have the #2 ranking. If he did that, he'd also have a case for PFP recognition, as far as the thread topic goes.

Your right, I just checked my latest Ring mag and it stated that belts are only awarded when #1 faces #2 or in certain circumstances #1 faces #3.
Sorry about that fellas.

No problem :)
As for his p4p-status, you could argue that he doesnt really prove anything by beating Peter (Ring no. 2) again anyway. But even if we all know Wlad's the man, it would help his status to finally clear out his division (Calzaghe did that before really moving up the ranks btw). Beating Ibrag is a step on the way, but only a step imo.

How is being the best in a division make you P4P?

Do you think back in the '70s boxing fans were talking about how brilliant the heavyweight scene was? Ha-ha, neither do I. 'Ali ain't what he was . . . Foreman overrated . . . Holmes a bum . . . what a mess!'
And in 20 years' time people will be waxing lyrical about the one today.

I actually don't think that is a fair comparison. I don't think there are three heavyweights today that are even in SHAPE. Most of the contenders and all look fat and not impressive. In fact if the HW division is THAT much worse in 30-40 years, the division will be dead.

Fair point, BB! I was being just a mite bit facetious.
How many boxing fans does it take to change a light-bulb?
Answer: Ten. One to change the light-bulb and nine to talk about how great the old one was.
(Sorry!)

I see your point Barlick about fans, but I just don't think it'll ever apply to the current heavy bunch. Just watched part of the Chagaev-Skelton fight today and it was embarrassing, Skelton can't even throw a punch nowadays and he was bloody competitive.
-
Re: Will Wlad Klitchsko enter P4P top ten if he beats Ibragimov??
I think he, Klitschko, would have to beat everyone available Chagaev, winner of Peter-Maskaev, POvetkin, and David Haye if he wins and moves up to be in the top 10 p4p... there simply isn't anyone good enough thtat Wlad would deserve a top spot that he can against right now, maybe in a few years Haye will up there, but until then he will/should be crushing the heavyweight division.

Re: Will Wlad Klitchsko enter P4P top ten if he beats Ibragimov??
Didn't think a heavy could ever enter the P4P list?
Always thought they heavy weight champ was the BEST screw the "without weight" crap
Basicaly no one from a less weight (this was before the cruiser was on the scene) would be able to be the heayweight champ around the time the p4p list came about, so there for they made that for the rest of the devisions?

Mike Tyson was P4P number 1 or P4P number 2 at one time i believe.

Re: Will Wlad Klitchsko enter P4P top ten if he beats Ibragimov??
Ali was have been on a P4P lists. I don't know if Holmes was, but he should have been. If Wlad really cleans out the division we can start that debate, but until then, he's not close to P4P status.
-
Re: Will Wlad Klitchsko enter P4P top ten if he beats Ibragimov??
I think that if he wins his fight and picks up his second World title he will have an arguement at #10 in the P4P list.
This would also depend on the outcome of the 3rd Vasquez-Marquez fight. Seeing as those 2 would move around....
As for the Heavy being P4P #1 Tyson was P4P #1, I believe Tyson became #1 right after he beat Spinks in '88.

That's what I thought too, but I guess that's not the case.

Re: Will Wlad Klitchsko enter P4P top ten if he beats Ibragimov??
I think Wlad will beat the top ten getting the most trouble from Valuev.
-
Re: Will Wlad Klitchsko enter P4P top ten if he beats Ibragimov??
I just don't get how some one who can only fight in one weight division like Klitchsko can be P$P because he can only fight in one division.
-
Re: Will Wlad Klitchsko enter P4P top ten if he beats Ibragimov??
He's a heavyweight so P4P does not apply unless he moved up to heavyweight from a lighter weight.
-
Re: Will Wlad Klitchsko enter P4P top ten if he beats Ibragimov??
IN the newest Ring Magazine where they ask several experts for their pound for pound list. Wlad is either in them or listed as just missing their list.
That being said, Holfield and Tyson in their primes where always in the Pound for Pound list. Infact Tyson was #1 pound for pound for 1988 in The Ring.
