Seriously!
For shits and giggles I watched Pavlik Taylor for the 5th time. I swear, every time he steps in the ring you know you're gonna see 2 guys FIGHT. He walks a very thin line... He allows damage to insue without guys actually getting hurt. You need to have alot of balls to ref the way that he does.
One of the best in the game. Need more like him!:cool:

Smoger is without a doubt the best in the business. Any lessor ref would have stopped Pavlik in the 2nd round.

Always remember Smoger at the end of the Augustus-Ward fight, you could tell he had enjoyed it, didn't he say something like fight of the year?
Lampley's always going on about how Smoger lets things go, I don't have any problem with that early in fights, like Pavlik in round two, wasn't any shot of him getting seriously hurt, people really only get seriously hurt by taking a long drawn out beating.
All I can say is right know he is the best referee in the field.
Smoger is definatly one of the better refs in the business....And POB is right he allows guys to fight like they should fight but makes sure they don't get hurt either.....I would pick Smoger to ref any big bouts with punchers
Yep, he's a good one for sure. Him and Mills Lane were/are the best. Get rid of Gay Nady please. Smoger looks like a dork, but Nady is one:D

Smoger lets things go, the classic example is in the Pavlik-Taylor fight. A lot of ref's would stopped that in the 2nd but he let go on and we seen what happened. Jay Nady is a joke and he looks scared of fighters. Joe 'I'm firm but I'm fair' Cortez is ok though.
Cortez has slipped a little. He used to be very good, but he misses a lot of things now. He still has good timing over when to stop a fight and he usually doesn't impose his presence on a fight more than necessary. I thought he did a pretty lousy job with the Hatton/PBF fight. The point deduction on Hatton was stupid and uncharacteristic, but he's still better than Nady.Quote:

yea i think cortez has slipped up as well.. I think he took what he knew about the two fighters and made his determination on what he was going to do way before the fight started...he was quick to break up the action
