Pavlik already on weight!
"I'm actually at 167, 166 right now and I'm eating like crazy," says undefeated world middleweight champion Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik (32-0, 29 KOs), who faces former undisputed world champion Jermain Taylor (27-1-1, 17 KOs) on pay-per-view February 16th in Las Vegas. At the insistance of the Taylor camp, the bout will be fought at a catchweight of 166 pounds, which the larger Pavlik feels will be more to his advantage than Taylor's. "I have a lot of energy and I really think that [the extra six pounds] are going to benefit me," said Pavlik. "The snap on my punch and the bounce in my legs, everything will be there."

Re: Pavlik already on weight!
Whenever I hear fighters claim that they're already making weight, I always take it with a grain of salt.
However, I have felt all along that Taylor was making a mistake in having the fight at 166, because the extra 6 pounds should benefit Pavlik just as much as Taylor.

Re: Pavlik already on weight!
Sometimes the extra weight don't help a fighters power punch but with Pavliks frame I think it will do wanders, more so than with Jermain.

Re: Pavlik already on weight!
Pavlik is such a throwback, you gotta like him. Taylor vs. Pavlik 2 is my superfight.
Pavlik represents pure grit and hard work, that is the lifeblood of the sport and guys like him, will bring boxing back from the shadows.

If this is all true, then Pavlik should have little problem coming back down to middleweight subsequently, which makes a mockery of all the talk about him struggling to make 160 last time.
Pass the salt, would you?

Re: Pavlik already on weight!
I really hope Pavlik beats Taylor again, but I think Taylor is going to box a lot more this time as opposed to trading with Pavlik.
I want to see Pavlik unify the division.

Re: Pavlik already on weight!
I don't really think jermain can outbox pavlik. He tried it last time around after round 2, and even though the judges pretty much all had jermain ahead by like 2 or 3 rounds at the stopage I don't know wtf they were looking at because I had pavlik even or ahead if I remember right. I think pavlik will ko taylor again.

Re: Pavlik already on weight!
Crazy to think that the fight is here in just a week.
Loving the undercard to this event...
Mijares-Navarro
Montiel-Castillo
2 fights with 4 very skilled guys I see both fights going the distance with a potential stoppage in the Mijares-Navarro fight.
I'm also hoping they show Sergio Martinez fight. They better not show the Viloria fight....

Mijares wins. But I don't see him scoring the knock out. Navarro is a good fighter. But it'll be good for him if he did

Late stoppage by Mijares I think Navarro will start making mistakes and Mijares will capitalize on it.

Re: Pavlik already on weight!
Not really sure what difference the 6 pouns is going to make but i know that i cant wait for it!! just over a week to go.
-
Re: Pavlik already on weight!
Taylor's camp has been eerily quiet.
-
Re: Pavlik already on weight!
I think as soon as pavlik lands one punch taylors confidence (if he has any) is just gonna drain right out of him and then it's just a matter of time before he gets KTFO again.Pavlik KO, before 9

Re: Pavlik already on weight!
i think this is goner be another thriller with these two bombing away, pavliks a tall rangey guy so a few extra pounds wont effect him niether taylor. it should be a good hopefully

Re: Pavlik already on weight!
taylor i feel made a mistake taking the rematch so soon. i feel he gets tko'd again
-
Re: Pavlik already on weight!
As much as I like Pavlik and think he is the King pin at middle, you cant discount Taylor so easily I think getting his blocked knocked off could have re ignited his fire.... its not like he almost didnt have Pavlik out of there in the 2nd

Dave,
nice video of Hopkins in your sig, the funny thing is that the one with Delahoya, when he pulls Delahoyas head in after the body shot like he is talking in his ear and telling him to take a dive... What are your thoughts?

Re: Pavlik already on weight!
Pavlik end this fight, i can't see jermaine continue fighting after 2 ko's losses in a row...

Re: Pavlik already on weight!
This will be an interesting fight; just to see where Taylors head is at. I thought he looked real good in their last fight, and just got beaten. People like to say"he almost had Pavlik out of there"; but he only had him in trouble because of foolishness on Pavliks part. And I seem to remember Pavlik jumping straight up after the knockdown, and going right back in for some more abuse by Taylor. He never once retreated and willingly took the abuse; and still Taylor couldn't get him gone. And after that round Taylor never came close to putting him down again.
This fight expect Pavlik to not get stupid making giggly faces at JT; and I wonder if Taylor will even come close to knocking him down again. I see JT coming out in the first 3 rounds trying to get Pavlik gone, trying to repeat that second round of #1, and if Taylor wins it will be by early ko or stoppage. After 3 or 4 rounds, if Pavlik is still doing what he does, which is apply a constant battering, expect the same result as last time. This fight isn't going the distance; one way or the other someone is getting layed out and my money is on Pavlik to do the same thing as the last fight, maybe the same round or even before. If Taylor does get ktfo again, it will be very interesting to see where he goes after this. His confidence will be shaken badly, and 168 won't be a joy ride for him.

Re: Pavlik already on weight!
I expect Taylor to do better this fight. I don't know if it will be enough to beat Pavlik though. You may even see him try new things in there. His quietness leading up to this is a good thing. It means he is training hard.
This could potentially be Taylor's last hurrah, so expect him to bring it on fight night. Kelly always brings it. I expect it to start slow due to both of them respecting what the other can do, but then turn into a barn burner.

You're right about 2 out of 3.
-
Re: Pavlik already on weight!
I just don't know......i still belive the old jabbing style taylor could outbox and eventually stop pavlik. There's just no way of telling which jermain is going to show up anymore.
-
Re: Pavlik already on weight!
I'm not big with predictions in general...but this fight is extra hard to predict(at least for me...)...
I'm leaning towards Pavlik,but only slightly...something like 55 to 45 chance...

heres the thing, that loss to pavlik is the best ive seen in JT in a long long time.... So if the best JT shows up again, don't you get the same result? If you the old JT comes back, will it be worse?
