Mayweather Sr. to train Zab Judah?

I just found this little nugget...

"Yeah, they called me to train Judah. I don’t know what’s happening yet. They supposed to be done came and met with me and ain’t nobody came yet. I talked to Yoel, his daddy, and another guy, Tom. I talked to both of them man and you know Zab know what’s going on because he was there when I was talking to them. That’s what’s going on man. We got to figure everything out and get Judah up here."

It's probably too little, too late, but Zab could have been a much different fighter had they made this move a lot earlier in his career.

This could work.
I've often said that the father son partnership didn't work for the Judah's.

I also felt that Floyd Sr. did a great job with Bad Chad Dawson so he could be perfect for Zab.

Hi guys, i agree and i hope that Judah change his style , he is a good boxer and i like his boxing, but is time change , i think with Floyd he going learn some kind of behavior, disipline and others skills that convert him like real Champ again. And also with the 5 defeate that he have ,maybe he will correct his fail , ahhhh...... If the happen Good Luck for Judah:cool:

Should be a natural match up. Zab was some how able to understand the mumble jumble that came out of Yoel's mouth. He should be able to understand what Floyd Sr is saying

Zab's biggest problem is himself...but a change may spark something and be a big help.

I don't know how you can get along without instructions such as "bam bam bam."

With that aside....IMO Judah should have switched trainers long ago.....I have always said just because you are family it does not mean the partnership will work...At times hinders things....The fighter is in a complex situation...Disagree with a trainer but then it is disrespecting your Father....Can cause family breakups as we have all seen.....

Many Father son relationships work great but it isn't for everyone..

At minimum I always suggest that the Father be CO-Trainer but just my OP.......

Two of the problems Zab Does are
1) He stops throwing punches when he is being forced to fight.
2) He doesn't smother smother his opponents when they get him on the rope... When guys like Mayweather or Hopkins avoid the initial punches coming in, they move in close to their opponent to avoid/smother the following punches/combinations, but Zab doesn't come forward, he just lets his opponent hit him in the corner. Also on the ropes he doesn't bring his hands up nor does he fully use his shoulder to properly block punches (left hooks/jabs).

It might be too late to teach Zab, but who knows I think he has the heart, and boxing intelligence to change his style, but then again he doesn't have the mental strength preform to his ability, he's a lot like Mike Tyson in that respect.

In a nutshell (no pun intended) he has no balls:). He folds under pressure. I hope it's true and it goes well because the ability has always been there and I like watching Zab fight for the first few rounds. He really tried to be brave in the Cotto fight and I applaud his dumb arse for it.

ok so this sounds good because his father sucks at training him, all he does is yell...lol

but im my mind i think this is zab's way to stick it to flloyd, since zab hates him.

but if this does happen the relationship between the mayweathers will be even worse, i suppose.

i wonder what LEGION is going to say about this??..lol

Same here, for once he had some pride in him and fought hurt until the ref stopped it. If it was not for the Cotto fight I would have no interest in who he fought right now unless it was a big name opponent.......but he always seems to get the big names regardless, so I always end up buying.

I think it's too little, too late for Zab...he should have changed trainers a looooong time ago.

I don't think Mayweather Sr. will train him anyway....he'll be too busy training De La Hoya for his tune-up in May.

mayweather doesnt mind being busy....and he sure doesnt mind the money that would be involved in training zab, its just up to zab being able to work with odlh in the same buidling and being able to get his mind straight because getting fllloyd would be a very good decision on his part hes on bounder line

Most likely its too late, should have never gone to Yoel. Although Yoel does provide some comic relief, but so does Zab so everything should be ok.

Zab needs a psychiatrist, not a new trainer. All that "hit him, hit him bam bam bam" is irrelevant; cause' by then Zab is in lala land not listening to anything. He's got the tools; not the mindset.

I don't think its exactly a match made in heaven, looking at their personalities.

At this point in his career, Zab is who he is, and it doesn't matter who trains him.

However, I've always said that Zab could have benefitted by working his whole career with a trainer who would teach him more boxing fundamentals. He never would have been a great fighter because of his lack of focus and concentration, but he could have been a better fighter than he is.
