Only in boxing - Mijares/Navarro
In all seriousness, I think that there is a chance that the judge who scored this fight for Navarro 120-108 may not have known which boxer was which.
That is giving him the benefit of the doubt, because if he did know who was who, then he was paid off. No ifs, no buts, no maybes - that guy is either one stupid or one corrupt motherfucker.

I wish he would consult with me before such things. I could pull a Welshdevil rob with my pics if I had a judge that malleable.

It's funny, because about halfway through the fight I realized I still didn't know which guy was which and I said so to my girl. Merchant got them mixed up about a half-dozen times too, although that's actually not uncommmon.

Just because you and a drunk senile commentator get a fighter mixed up, that doesn't give the judges that excuse. :)

Heh, yeah, but it makes Larry look better -- at least he knew who was who by the end of the fight, and he's drunk and senile. ;)

Wow that is strange. But you know it's Vegas, what are you gunna do?

Re: Only in boxing - Mijares/Navarro
Even if that is the case, that score still wouldn't make sense.
-
Re: Only in boxing - Mijares/Navarro
120-108 for Navarro was without doubt the worst bit of judging i have ever seen. This takes the biscuit, there is no comparison Doug Tucker is one dumb mother......! The fight was competitive but unless he did get confused as to who was who you wouldn't have it a shutout for Mijares either. This was just total incompetence! Now can we get Mijares V Montiel happening? Vic retire now!

Re: Only in boxing - Mijares/Navarro
I wonder if a fighter has ever won a split decision, while losing 12-0 on one card. This might be a first.
Doug Tucker is a moron. He also had Marquez beating Barrera 10-2 and Griffin beating Toney 11-1.
-
Re: Only in boxing - Mijares/Navarro
How can there be any excuse about not knowing who was who. Navarro had his name on the back of his shorts. I noticed that after watching for barely 30 seconds.
Shocking and it cost me in the prediction contest as I plugged for the UD.

Well there you go, total incompetence. They must surely investigate how this dickhead judges fights. Buffer looked like he didn't want to read it out!

Re: Only in boxing - Mijares/Navarro
what was the result of the fight???
-
Re: Only in boxing - Mijares/Navarro
the f..kng moron lmfao! he must be very proud of himself, hands wrap together on his chest and a big grin on his face  He must of been thinking "yes Buffer read it out loud those are my scorecards baby" ;D Next time Micheal Buffer should make him read his own embarrassing damned scorecards!

Re: Only in boxing - Mijares/Navarro
That scorecard right there is or I should say, should be an automatic revoking of his judging licence. Abysmal, shocking and apalling. Getting the fighters mixed up isn't really an excuse for a judge:if he doesn't know which was which, he shouldn't have been judging the fight in the first place. Really pathetic.:mad:

Agreed. Theres simply no demand for accountability when this happens.Everyone just shrinks away after some boo's and the occasional commentators calling It a shite call etc.Afterwards this leech and obvious inept man will swagger over to judge another fight with his Incompetence and blind disregard for reality and fairness.
The ones who can keep the light on these fools are we... the fans.To bad we dont have his e-mail ?

Re: Only in boxing - Mijares/Navarro
sounds like the worst piece of judging possible
shouldnt be allowed to judge again

judge's scorecards:

Re: Only in boxing - Mijares/Navarro
Craziness.
I remember Britkid telling me about some fight in Germany where the non-German fighter was winning handily so the judges scored 11 even rounds and gave the last to the hometown fighter but this is the craziest shit I've ever seen.

Yeah there should be some kind of investigation into that nonsense....check who put big money on a split decision... I am almost tempted to start my own list of questionable calls and compare the culprits see if there repeat offenders...but theres no way I have that kind of access to every scorecard and every fight. Would be interesting though. They need a system like the NFL has where they review the officials calls and the good guys get into playoffs/super bowl the bad guys get let go/reprimanded.

bUT ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, mIJARES LOOKED THE BUSINESS AGAINST A BRAVE OPPONENT DIDN'T HE?

Re: Only in boxing - Mijares/Navarro
Did the HBO guys says anything after the scores were announced? Usually Lampley and Merchant will say something when there's a scorecard that's out of whack.
-
Re: Only in boxing - Mijares/Navarro
I was watching via Setanta, so it was actually the Top Rank commentary I got.
They didn't say anything about the source although they speculated on it quite a bit.
Neither did Michael Buffer, do you think he did that conciously as he thought the Judge may have been in for criticism for it?

Yeah they said some things like "Say what?, did I hear right? We'll assume he got the fighters mixed up" than they moved on.
I think there is no excuse. First, there is no way that fight could be scored 120 - 108 for Mijares as Navarro clearly won a couple of rounds. So getting the fighters mixed up is bullsh**
As far as I'm concerned, this guy was just chugging down drinks and flirting with the ring card girls during the fight and just filled out the card after the bell. And I'm being nice here and giving him the benefit of the doubt by not calling him currupt.
This is blatant incompetence and I expect to hear about an investigation into this because it is all in the open, we all know about it so if nothing is done it is the Las Vagas Boxing Commission (or whatever they call it) who I will consider incompetent.

Re: Only in boxing - Mijares/Navarro
Having heard that result and the castillo fight, my girlfriend was actually suspiscious of outside interference on the night.
