Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
Holy mother of God, Wlad is below 240! I hope he hasn't been sick or anything because that's pretty fucking light.
fightnews.com
"Both fighters weighed in moments ago for the first heavyweight unification title fight since 1999. IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko weighed 238 and WBO heavyweight champion Sultan Ibragimov scaled in at 219 during a special Thursday weigh-in ceremony at New York City's Madison Square Garden. For Wladimir, this is the lowest he has weighed since his first win over Chris Byrd in October 2000, and 5.5 pounds less than in his previous fight. Sultan weighed exactly the same as he did for his previous fight against Evander Holyfield."
I am not sure what Wlad and Manny have planned to do and I sure as hell hope they figured for him to be this light. This more than likely means Wlad did more stamina training....or at least I would think so
-
Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
I thought the same thing....if he or his camp are having any problems now is the time to bring it up, we're not gonna want to hear it afterward in the very unlikely event he were to loose. Hopefully it was planned move to help keep up with the little guy.
-
Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
That doesnt sound good. I don't think Wladdys been below 240 in years...
Theres also a possibility of over-training....
-
Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
It does seem a little strange when you consider that Wlad has always been by far the best conditioned heavyweight in the world.
He must have lost some muscle mass as I doubt he had an extra 5 lbs of fat to lose, he's always completely ripped.
-
Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
After thinking about this a while I believe Wladimir is going to look to move around a lot either due to Sultan being on the attack or because he's going to have to chase Sultan around the ring....but that is just my opinion

I think that's more the case for fighters who get out of shape between bouts.
I think Wlad may have just eased off any kind of power training he was doing and focused on stamina and mobility

Whilst the rest of us don't even need to waste time thinking what will happen.
Hint, Upright robot moves forward, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab.
Round 2
Upright robot continues moving forward, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab
Rinse and repeat for 6 more rounds then....
Round 8
Upright robot moving forward, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, referee stops the fights.
Somebody wake me when the Joe Luis doc starts

He also has a left hook.
Watch the Austin fight.

Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
....is Jeff Mayweather going to be the corner man for Sultan??? I know of Sultan's fondness of Panama Lewis and I also know of Panama's ban from ringside.
2 quick questions
#1. If Sultan wants to be a recognized and appreciated fighter then why get trained by a dirty fucking cheat of a trainer?
#2 Jeff Mayweather...you're trying to get out of the shaddow of Roger and Floyd Sr.....why jeopardize your career working with Panama Lewis?
....I also wish Wlad could have a shot at Panama for the crap he has done in the past....fucking bum
-
Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
Panamas fucken SCUM!!
-
Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
And yet fighters and apparently trainers still flock to that guy...Tyson brought him in when he was fighting Lewis.
Panama has no place near ANY form of boxing....unless he's training Ike Ibeabuchi.....IN JAIL

Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
But back on topic, this extremely light weight for Wlad is shocking....it might be a sign of several things....hopefully it's that he's preparing for this fight like it's the biggest fight of his life

Im not going to knock Wlad's jab. Especially when one of his "boring" jabs would knock me the eff out..
It isn't the most exciting thing to watch. But keep in mind at this point Wlad's jab has more force behind it then many other fighter's money punch and it is brutally effective.
It is a tell when someone uses the word "robot" to describe a boxer that the closet they have been to the sport is laying on the couch watching a PPV ;)
If you try sparring once, I think you'll gain a whole new perspective on the sport. Taking a jab from a mediocre 140 lb amatuer would probably be enough to send you out of the gym crying, never to look back!

Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
Wladimir Klitschko: "I am going to win the fight. I am determined to win this fight. The fight is scheduled for 12 rounds, but I doubt it will go the distance. I'm the lightest I've ever been but I feel strong and energetic. I feel great! The weight was a result of intensive training with fighters who were all at least one weight class below me."
Sultan Ibragimov: "I feel fantastic. The weight is fantastic, perfect!"
I suspect Andy Lee was a major sparring partner for him as well as Johnathan Banks

Yeah..
But why would he prepare for a fight with Sultan like it is the biggest fight of his life!?
The Sultan that drew with Austin, who Wlad knocked silly early on? The Sultan that just went 12 with a Holyfield that is so far past it he's out of sight?
I dont think there is anyway possible to get "up" enough for this fight to the extent that he is going to train harder then he did for previous fights.
I'd guess it can only be bad news that he is so light.
-
Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
Well I think Wlad and Manny's theory is that Sultan is going to either move away a lot or attack and Wlad will have to move away a lot.
He seems to be in great shape, I hope this strategy works out for them.
-
Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
Im not worried about wlady weight, I've actually hope to see wlady weight less then 240, I can remember before he went above 240 I thought he was a lot better then when he started weight 240 plus i thought....he getting fat. I think wlady really wants this fight thats why he train a lot more cause it is a unification ain't it? and thats what wlady has been wanting for a long time now. I think 238ish is better for wlady, he'll be more quicker and prolly less robotic.

That's true, I didnt even think of that. Both of the aforementioned Kronk stable mates probably made Wlad feel like he was fighting under water!
He must expect to have to chase Sultan down, which is exactly what he will have to do if Sultan fights the only fight that gives him a chance to pull the upset.
-
Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
Wladdys to skilled of a boxer and smart. He will be very patient and wait for Sultan to make a mistake. Wladdy will capatilize on it and KO him.

Yes but not sparring guys who have the kind of pop Sultan has might be to Wlad's detriment....but then again he never does plan to get hit
I think at 238 he's going to be a little bit faster out of the gate just to thwart any early attack Sultan may have planned...the faster Wlad gets Sultan out of there, the less chances Sultan gets to land a freak punch
-
Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
Wlad is going to be on Conan tonight....so watch him if you stay up that late
-
Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
I don't think it's a big deal. With heavyweights, 4-5 pounds is a very small percentage of body weight. For all we know, the scale could have been off by a pound or two, or Wlad could have worn lighter clothing than he normally does on the scale.

The last time Wlad was under 240 was in the 1st Chris Byrd fight, that sounds worrying.

Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
This should be interesting... Wlad is so strong though I think Sultan won't be able to overcome him.. Wlad is probably the strongest champion I have seen since Foreman... he pushes his jab and yet it still hits like most heavyweights right hand, he also has a left hook that sometimes looks like it barely lands but it ends up knocking his opponent senseless. I just can't see Sultan overcoming this, but Wlad has always had a poor chin which is could change things up... I thought the fight is on Saturday... why are they weighing in today?
-
Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
Wlads loss to Ross Puritty way back in 1998 i think Wlad was usually mid 230's and was 225 for that fight. Lost by TKO in round 11 of 12. He's recently been mid 240's and weighed in at 238..........hmmm history repeating?

Well when he lost to Purrity he was 21 years old...he was still growing and developing muscles.
He was 238 when he fought Byrd for his first major title....I think he trained hard and it'll pay off for him

They probably just cut Wlad's dick off. Not like he needs it. He's already missing his balls. lol.

Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
Hulk that is some funny shit!!! I do think this is nothing to be worried about I think 5 pounds to them is nothing but who knows...I still think wladdy knocks sultan out somewhere in the 6th or 7th round.
-
Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
Always possible that Manny has thought of having Wlad slim as possible to add some speed to Wlad...I think tha last time Wlad was under 240 was the first time he fought Byrd...He has fought at 240-241 quite a few times since though....IMO nothing to worry about....

I don't care if it was Panam Lewis himself, Jeff Mayweather, Roger and Floyd Sr all in Sultans corner...Stewart is all Wlad needs in the corner...Any of those clowns can not tell anything to Sultan to help him or anything that he can do Manny can not tell Wlad how to handle it...
Personally I take Steward over all of them...especially Lewis

Wlad looked more ripped then I've ever seen him. The weigh-in is on ESPN.COM/Boxing

wlad is gonna win

Lyle, have you seen Jonathan Banks? I think he just bumped up to heavyweight, but he's another reason why the future of the HW division is bright. After that fight on ESPN he showed just how much chin and heart he has and the guy is as composed as can be. To spar with Klitschko has got to be doing volumes for his game. Plus, I had an opportunity to speak with Emmanuel Steward and he said working the corner helps to make you a better fighter. Banks has appeared in a couple pros' corners and also went out with the amateur team.

Re: Sultan 219...Wlad 238!!!!
Just watching the vid Wlad looks fucking awesome, seriously I want that body :o
