Convince me to get a PS3

Alright, it's gotten to that time for me, in any cheapskates life, when they've eaked out every last inch of enjoyment they can get out of an old console, while everyone around them is being glitzed and glamoured by the latest games and graphics... My ps2 has served me well with God of War 1 & 2, FNR2 & 3, Medal of honours, Kindom hearts 1 & 2, Devil May Cry series, Gran Turismo 4,,,, and I think it's time I moved on...

I originally bought the PS2 because I was desperate for Gran Turismo 4 and that tipped me over the edge..

But I havn't noticed an equivelant game on PS3 that i've seen advertised and just thought, f'k, I want to buy that whole new console just for that game..
Now Devil May Cry 4 is out I felt my wallet get a little heavier in my pocket, but the review of it aren't hugely amazing, so i'm delaying my excitement to save some money..
Also the new medal of honour game says that the Single Player Campaign is "over in a flash",,, and i'm not big on online play or multiplayer so that too hasn't won me over..

But, upon looking at reviews of some of their games, I came across one called Assassins Creed, and it looks freakin awesome!!

The graphics look awesome,, the atmosphere of the game looks as appealing to me as any game that I have ever seen since birth, and reviews of it all say the game is top notch in just about every way..

This could be the game to make me update my ancient PS2 to a new PS3...

Is Assassins Creed that good, and are there any other good reasons for me to buy a PS3 other than it's embarrassing as fuck when friends are over and see my PS2 sitting there as the centerpeice of entertainment under my tv ???

I'd get an Xbox 360 mate, has by far the better games and more of them.

Plus it's a great multimedia device, you can stream films, music and photo's straight from your pc to your xbox enabled tv in the lounge if you have a router.

Xbox Live is far better than anything the PS3 has plus if you have any technical know a 360 is easy to mod so you never have to pay for games.

Finally Microsoft have release a slew of updates for it, it now supports 1080 p, and later this year Microsoft are releasing an add on drive that will enable it to play Blue Ray dvd's.

The PS3 is pretty shitty by comparison.

I should say however that I more of a pc man myself and don't own any console as I rarely play games.

My brother is a console whore though so I know all about them.

360 is the way the go.

Awesome.. I'm going to have a think about that too... Usually the really good games get released on both and it would be a HUGE bonus being able to mod it out..

I also spend almost 24 hours a day download movies and tv series and stuff so being able to get that onto tv easier would be awesome over watching them on my laptop..

Yes, xbox is getting thrown into the mix, and is half the price of PS3 here I beleive

The new Metal Gear, and Resident Evil will be out this year. Thats all the reason you need.

I bought a wii just for resident evil 4 even though i've finish it mulitple times on gamecube. Im just that addicted to Resident Evil. Well that other game which is first person view on wii. I didn't like, I never really like first person view mode thats why. Im now just waiting for the newest resident evil to come out on ps3.

Blu-Ray just won the HD war and PS3 plays Blu-Ray movies. Plus, it's cheaper than an actual Blu-Ray player.

I put my money towards a good HDTV before buying a PS3. Get the big stuff first.

Resident Evil is out on 360 as well plus a load of other top games Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto 4 or whatever it will be upto, Bioshock, Alan Wake etc

Plus the 360 will have a Blu Ray player in May which will operate as a standalone. Although you buy it seperately it's actually a better way to do it imo as you won't be using it to play games on as well.

Drives can wear out a lot quicker if you use them for everything.

Fight Night Round 4 due out in 2009.

Anyway, Dizaster, I just started playing God of War for PS2, my cousin let me borrow it.. I haven't played a console game, or really and game in years but this one looked interesting and my cousin was really hyping up 1 and 2.. he said when i'm done with 1 to get 2 from him.. I'm only about a half hour or so in, just curious on your review of the game.

One of my kids has a birthday coming up and i was relying on the PS3 to bail me out

as the spoilt little brats already have everyother console on the market, all the handheld ones and a laptop each :-\

i risisted the urge to get them one for christmas as i didnt fancy seeing £50 disks getting trodden on by my new years visiting nepews and nices... but now i'm really struggling.

are you guys saying don't buy the PS3 :confused:

If your at all technical Saddo get a 360. Just learn to mod it, my brother has done loads it's easy apparently and you never have to pay for any games.

I got one a while back and you won't be dissapointed, great look, great graphics and have it flat or on it's side and a whole collection of cool games, in HD and comes witha wireless controller and 40gb or 60gb built in memory.

The best bi.: PLAY ONLINE FOR FREE!!! XBox uses have to pay £40 a year to play online when it is absoloutely free for PS3 uses, also the controllers are easy and great to hold unlike the big fat ones the X-BOX have with about 40 buttons on.

GET THE PS3!!! ;D

Got a 360 mate might look into modding it.. but to be honest mate it would cut my berthday and christmas options right down if they had every game :D

I remember years ago when I never thought I'd need or want an NES again when they came out with SNES and N64, but now I'd pay as much for a working NES as I would a PS3 or a Wii (not really :rolleyes:).

I have a working NES and a working SNES. I never owned a N64 but did have a GC that the ex-wife took when she left.

I tried to sell the SNES at GameStop and they laughed at me. :(

I also had a TurboGrafx 16 which a sold to a kid in highschool after having it for only a few months.

I not only have a working NES but a working Power Pad, and working Duck Hunt Gun.


I also have plenty of games for it: Super Mario Bros. 1-3, Breakthru, Track and Field, Duck Hunt, Double Dribble, MegaMan, etc

I never got the game I really wanted for it though.....Zelda.

I still have two nes with guns and alot of games,a sega genesis with a box of games and I think I have every boxing game ever made for it,ps1,ps2 and ps3 and my ole lady has pms.

The 60GB version does but the 40GB version does not.

I sometimes have graving for Mortal Kombat ll and that keeps making me buy a snes. when im tired of it again i somehow lose track what i did with my last snes.

God of War is probably my favourite console game of all time! THe fighting is great fun, the levels are awesome, graphics is great, story is great, actually takes a little while to finish and isn't over to quickly, leave you hanging for more... I love the atmosphere of it as well i.e. the settings of ancient greece and some of the larger worlds you can just get right into...

And trust me, God of War 2 doubles number 1 in every way when your up to it..

So far i just beat the first "level", the hydra.. And I REALLY like the atmosphere but I need to play it more to see how i like it.. A lot of games like that get redundant and you feel like you're just continuing to kill hordes of guys after hordes of guys etc..

I actually really enjoyed the old "Tomb Raider" games because there was a LOT of figuring out to do, and you could spend hours on just one level.. So not only did you have some cool weapons and vehicles and environments, but there was a lot of puzzle solving also.. God of War seems a little more straight forward which is good and bad..

But I heard that #2 is awesome.

Yeah I see what you mean defiently... I think I liked the straight forward button mashing killing hoards and hoards of men as it's good stress releif after a hard day at work.. The story contiues on a little more, gets a little more puzzeling, not so linear so you have to do a little more exploring, and you get more different opponents... I've just starting playing 1 again the other day just out of boredom, and the first level is a bit mundane, but it does expand a lot more after 2 or 3 levels...

I might have to go down and hire Tomb Raider or Resident Evil as someone mentioned as I havn't played those..

I love the war type Medal of Honour games when they have really good missions, although all of them try to put a new spin on the genre, and none have really nailed it for me so far...
Return to Castle Wolfenstein's gameplay wasn't quite the best, but it had the best story and the levels were really cool... I hope they decide to go ahead with another one for the PS3 or xbox 360

If you haven't played Resident Evil (esp the original) then you need to.. Thing is, is that the graphics are REALLY outdated now, so it won't be as amazing as it was about 10 years ago.. As i said the Tomb Raiders (the early ones) are great also..

But if you want a great game for PS1.. METAL GEAR SOLID.. Probably one of my favorite games ever.. The story is great and it's a LOT of fun.. Tons of bosses in it and they all follow along with the story.. Mostly with each boss there are more and more concepts.. For example you fight a guy who reads your mind, so you have to unplug your controller from port 1 into port 2 so that he can't read your mind and you can defeat him.. it's good shit, i'd def look into it..


I played more God of War today and got pretty far into it.. You were dead on with saying that it gets better after a few levels.. The fact that you're constantly fighting different types of enemies is cool, plus you get those special attacks, but some work better on certain enemies and you have to figure out which to use on which etc.. I don't want to know if you do, but if you have to fight Ares at the end, I can't wait.

And this still played the old PS2 games which I thought was a bonus as i've got a lot of PS2 games around that I don't mind still playing.. And I have a couple of stores near me that sell 100's of as-good-as-new second hand ps2 games for like $10 to $20 so I could build up a fair collection that way without having to drop a bundle on new PS3 games when I get bored.
Then they made a huge fuss about a "better bargain" PS3 versio, but the only real difference was that it only has 40gb instead of 60gb... Which who really cares that much about 20gb... What they didn't advertise so much was that it doesn't play PS2 games.. Maybe their is a mod to fix that up????
But anyway, i'm sure that was the plan of Sony to help phase out PS2 and move everyone on to PS3... I still think it's a dumb idea though because they are cutting off their sale of PS2 games...

There is definitely a transition between the two controllers, but nothing that you won't get used to after a few days of playing.

I personally prefer the PS3 ones because i'm used to them, and they're lighter..

I'm gonna have to get an xbox 360 if Prize Fighter is as good as it seems it's going to be.

so dizaster.. i beat God of War 1 the other day, pretty killer ending.. I was sort of hoping for a little more story, like who that dude was that was digging Kratos's grave.. maybe i just missed that part of the story..

anyway, definitely one of the best console games i've ever played, the puzzles were GREAT.. The whole Greek mythology size of it was fantastic, but with all that said, i'm SO GLAD that it's over.. some of those puzzles took me forever, but that's what makes the game so great.. anyway, i'll be borrowing from my cousin, god of war 2 soon.. are they about the same length and difficulty as far as puzzles go?

Another thing about the 360 a number of my mates told me as they have it in college, say it's unreliable as it's always breaking and then have to take it back the shop all the time.

yeah well there was that 'circle of death' dilemma where it would just overheat and not work.. so you had to send it back and they'd send you one that worked ( or they'd fix it.. either way ).. such a pain in the ass if you ask me.

the 360 is fairly easy to flash, but most people who did it got banned from
xbox live, If u don't use the online though I'd definitly get it done!

Got a PS3 in the end and both my sons love it.... what impressed me the most was the joy pads being wireless and no battries needed... great feature as well as the internet browser and hard drive space.

it pisses on the xbox 360 IMO.

the best one has to be the Wii though as its the only excercise the kids get....great idea :cool:

I got my PS3 last week once the Blu Ray/HD DVD war was over. It's great for Blu Ray DVD's, picture and sound are fantastic. Only played COD 4 offline so far but its amazing. As a CD player its as good as a LINN classik which cost me 1200 quid. I am totally blown over with this machine. £300? fucking peanuts for what this thing does.
