While everyones been jumping on Floyd some sneaky bastage has flown under the radar
For all you people out there that are fair, and I know its all of you... Bernard Hopkins won the light heavyweight title in June of 2006 fuked about for a year threatening to retire until he fought Winky Wright a guy who started at 147 in July of 2007 and he is considered the best LightHeavy in the world and PFP#3-5 in most peoples rankings.
He has yet to defend or is scheduled to defend against a lightheavy but most laud Nard as the 2nd coming. Thats a load of crap
-
Re: While everyones been jumping on Floyd some sneaky bastage has flown under the rad
You're right, Winky was not a true light heavyweight, but he was still a very tough opponent.
Calzaghe isn't a natural light heavyweight, but an unbeaten Calzaghe is a tougher challenge than any 175 pounder out there. I think Hopkins is a worthy light heavyweight champ.
If Hopkins beats Calzaghe and wants to keep fighting at 175, and Dawson beats Johnson, then Hopkins-Dawson would be a legit fight.
-
Re: While everyones been jumping on Floyd some sneaky bastage has flown under the rad
He'll have fought Tarver, Winky Wright, and then Calzaghe all after the age of 41 and 15lbs higher than where he spent almost 20 years fighting. Hardly a load of crap that he get's his respect, if you ask me. I don't think his defending against true lightheavy's is really the most important thing, especially when it's not a hot division at all. Who would you have rather seen him fight? I suppose Chad Dawson would've been a good pick but for all we know Dawson's camp didn't want him in with Hopkins. Aside from him, who else is there? He could fight Roy Jones again, but those two will likely never be able to agree on a purse split. Glen Johnson already suffered his only TKO loss to Hopkins 10 years ago, although it would also be great to see them do it again. If you ask me Calzaghe is clearly the biggest marquee fight out there for him, and probably the greatest risk, and Hop took the fight. I can't say anything bad about that. The only fight you can really nitpick at is against Winky, but it was still a great opponent and great challenge despite being against a slightly smaller man. Really though, is there anyone besides Dawson who you think he should've fought over any of his opponents since moving up to Lthvy??

Listen I agree with all of what you guys are saying 10000000000000% this just goes to show that the scrutiny that Floyd is recieving over Cotto is stupid and childish.. I purposely casted a negative condentation over what Hop was doing at the moment just to iilustrate that the Floyd haters are.... JUST HATERS;) and just try to take him to task for what he is doing at the moment

Re: While everyones been jumping on Floyd some sneaky bastage has flown under the rad
Here's a scenario:
1. Hopkins beats Calzaghe
2. Dawson beats Johnson in very impressive fashion
3. Hopkins chooses a bigger money fight against Roy Jones instead of fighting Dawson
Now, I'm not necessarily predicting this to happen, just saying that it's a possibility. If it plays out like that, does Hopkins get the same amount of scrutiny for "avoiding" Dawson that Mayweather is getting right now for "avoiding" Cotto?
I doubt it, even though the two situations would be very similar.

Ah, gotcha.. Didn't really see what angle you were coming from. I think that even these Mayweather haters respect Floyd as a great fighter who has done great things in the sport. They won't admit it of course, but I'd like to think there aren't people that stupid even capable of typing full sentences. I wouldn't bother trying to use rational to explain the hate, I think it's just that the guy at the top will always receive the most pointless criticism. I remember when I first joined this forum Hopkins was p4p no.1 and going into the first Taylor fight, you heard alot of the same stupid shat about him. Yet once he dropped down a few spots then resurfaced beating Tarver all the talk was about what a legend he was. It's just typical stuff imo.

I agree.
As for Hopkins he's an ATG & I could see him facing Dawson over Jones as it would be more of a challenge IMO

Re: While everyones been jumping on Floyd some sneaky bastage has flown under the rad
first of, theres no cotto in lightheavyweight;
that division isn't as good as the welterweight or atleast not as popular any longer.
bhop still is fighting great competition and not for money unlike floyd.
bhop vs joe isn't even ppv so thats a clear indicate that these two are fighting for history and better legacy not money. Unlike against oscar who is only for $$$$
Bhop defeated LHW undisputed champ Tarver! the man that beat the man (roy jones)
Winky even though was smaller than bhop only because bhop has move up to LW, but bhop and winky just months before there fight were basically both middleweights.
And Bhop is fighting Calzagne. enough said.
these three consecutive oppenents for bhop is a lot better then floyds whole career. plus their division is far different, if LHW was a stack division then I'd be moaning about bhop defending too, but yet since he is fighting p4p fighters I can't say shyt.
NOTE: BHOP KO'D OSCAR, FLOYD WON STD.oops i mean sd ;D

How are 39 year old Tarver and 36 year old Winky better than a prime Hatton and a 34 year old Oscar?

Hopkins is fighting for money just like Floyd
Bhop defeated LHW undisputed champ Tarver! the man that beat the man (roy jones)
Floyd defeated the WW undisputed champ Baldimor! the man that beat the man (Zab Judah) Floyd also beat that man as well!
Winky even though was smaller than bhop only because bhop has move up to LW, but bhop and winky just months before there fight were basically both middleweights.
Hatton was only smaller than Floyd because Floyd moved up from Superfeatherweight! And Oscar was much bigger
And Bhop is fighting Calzagne. enough said.
Floyd is fighting Oscar again, not popular but you are kidding yourself if you think Oscar De La Hoya is an easy opponent for anybody

So a 39 year old Tarver, and a 36 year old Winky are better than prime undefeated Diego Corrales, prime Castillo, prime undefeated Ricky Hatton?
As for Calzahghe I agree he's awesome but lets wait and see if BHop actually beats him before we comment shall we?
NOTE: BHOP KO'D OSCAR, FLOYD WON STD.oops i mean sd
Floyd is a former SUPERFEATHERWEIGHT fighting at 135 lbs. Oscar was 5 divisions above his natural weight class.
When BHop moves five divisions up (actually he can only move up 4 from middle) to heavyweight and wins a SD win over Sam Peter or Wladimir Klitschko then we can compare merits. ;)

Can you say: Double standard?
Floyds last 4 opponents have all been ranked, 2 of them Ring champions, the other 2 former Ring champions.
Floyd beat Baldomir who had beaten the man Judah, who had beaten the man Spinks, who had beaten the man Mayorga, who had beaten the man Forrest who was the man after beating Mosley.
It was 19 months from when Hopkins left 160 until he fought Wright. It was 19 months since Hatton had fought Collazo at 147 until he fought Mayweather.
You need to research Mayweather's record, he's beaten 2 current & 4 former Ring champions & fought against the #1 ranked guy 5 times. Cotto's never fought the #1 guy in a division & only 2 former Ring champs.
Floyd's last fight was a defense of his 147 championship.

Hopkins is fighting for money just like Floyd.
For a guy whos fighting for money, why don't he just rematch oscar instead of fighting a real competition against calzagne in a non ppv event?
Bhop defeated LHW undisputed champ Tarver! the man that beat the man (roy jones)
Floyd defeated the WW undisputed champ Baldimor! the man that beat the man (Zab Judah) Floyd also beat that man as well!
:lolhaha: zab is no roy jones jr, thats not even comparable.
Winky even though was smaller than bhop only because bhop has move up to LW, but bhop and winky just months before there fight were basically both middleweights.
Hatton was only smaller than Floyd because Floyd moved up from Superfeatherweight! And Oscar was much bigger
Its easy for a fighter like floyd to move up like that cause he barely fights

Floyd is fighting Oscar again, not popular but you are kidding yourself if you think Oscar De La Hoya is an easy opponent for anybody.
you know your right, for a so called p4p king even old version oscar who is only a part time boxer now is tough for floyd.

As much as I love chico, castillo and even ricky. YES winky alone is better then the three even at 36 years of age.
As for Calzahghe I agree he's awesome but lets wait and see if BHop actually beats him before we comment shall we?
Joe earned my respect, this fight is right down the middle hard to say who'll win.
NOTE: BHOP KO'D OSCAR, FLOYD WON STD.oops i mean sd

Natural would mean recent, floyds now natural weight class is 147 thats only one division from where they fought 154 which is only 7 pounds north. For a p4p king that shouldn't be a problem. bhop went from middleweight to LHW to beat tarver who beat ROY FUCKING JONES JR, not baldomir who beat zab joke judah!
When BHop moves five divisions up (actually he can only move up 4 from middle) to heavyweight and wins a SD win over Sam Peter or Wladimir Klitschko then we can compare merits. ;)
you know as weak as the state of the heavyweight is, i wouldn't be suprise if bhop did what roy did and win ud against one of those fat bastards.:D

Rains Winky was NOT rated p4p 2 in the world when he fought Bhop
Floyd, Pacquaio, BHop, JM Marquez, R Marquez and Jermain Taylor were all above Winky, possible Ricky Hatton as well.
Winky was at the bottom end of the p4p rankings

Get your facts right Rain Wright was ranked #5 by Ring mag when Hopkins defeated him.

Agree completely. It wasn't a pretty fight, and it was difficult to score, but Hopkins took away Wrights best weapons and definetly made the fight much harder on him than it was on himself, which is what he does best. I also believe Winky should have been much higher than #5 going into that fight. The thought that Jermain Taylor and Ricky Hatton may have been above him p4p makes me queezy.

Sorry Pea but i slightly disagree Calzaghe has to kill himself to make 168, he said he could move up to 175 easily. So i would say he is a natural 175 fighter easily IMO.

Re: While everyones been jumping on Floyd some sneaky bastage has flown under the rad
LOL,I cant argue for either side of this debate..I dont like either guys ring tactics or actual fight history. They both have manipulated their way thru divisions, belts and rankings. The one difference is that Hopkins, although not always as strong a paper resume, did completely clean out his division for the vast majority before moving up. They both have awesome talents I have to concur but that doesn't in any way mean I will respect them as a fighter. I do prefer Hopkins over Mayweather. That Winky fight was the biggest turn away for me since Wright is my favorite guy and has always been overlooked,under-rated and robbed a few times of what he deserves.
Hopkins is at least fighting on a regular card while Mayweather is fighting that PPV crap...again. Yes,marketability has some involvement there but their whole intentions were to create that in the first place. I don't blame Floyd for "avoiding" Cotto. Cotto hasn't tried all that hard to pursue the fight IMO. It is a fight that SHOULD happen now instead of later when everyone can use the excuse of age or have a chance at Cotto losing a belt before he gets his shot. Floyd won't be around much longer and Mosley is showing interest in him too. Financially, being a GBP fighter,Moslery would be able to provide the best$$$ which is BS.

Floyd
Pac
Rafa
JMM
Winky

Re: While everyones been jumping on Floyd some sneaky bastage has flown under the rad
I would have actually thought that Winky would have been top two-three, bit surprised by that. Definitely nowhere near bottom half. I mean a majority of fans thought he beat Taylor, at least that's how it seemed, I definitely did, and he might not have looked amazing against Ike but he clearly won. Surprised he was behind JMM and Rafa.
