Was just on the Audley Harrison site
For anyone who cares he's planning to come back in May.
The car crash he was in last September caused him a few injuries, he broke two bones in his hand and torn a pectoral muscle requiring surgery.
His younger brother apparently died a couple months ago aged just 26 as well.
Sounds like he's been having a shit time lately.
I'm probably the only person on the site who wishes him well but hopefully he can have a decent go of finally making something of his career when he resumes in May.

Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site

Yeah it's kind of tragic. He has a forum and the last message on the entire board was like 3 days ago.
There's about 6 members now I think.

Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
He was in Repton a few weeks ago..he seemed in high spirits. I wish him well but not sure whether he can bounce back

Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
I was actually enthusiastic about Audley after the Olympics.
Funny to see how it's turned out.

Yeah I really believed he was going to be like Lennox Lewis when he turned pro. I thought he had all the tools
-
Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
It's ironic you say that.
When he turned pro I was looking for all the signs....When he threw a right uppercut I was like; YES YES Lennox used to do that!
But when the going got a little tougher he just didn't have the mental fortitude....A real pity.

Yeah exactly, I thought he had the height, the reach, the skills, the cool hair he was the truth.
It reminds me of Ewan McGregor when he's Ben Kinobi at the end of the Clone Wars yelling to Anakin ' YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE!!!'
But instead of trying to kill Obi 1 Audley just took his light sabre and disembowled himself.:p

Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
Ha Ha thats true!
I remeber meeting Audley. I can recall he was a big guy, dressed nearly all in leather at the time (not how you invision it Bilbs!) and he was surrounded by minders.
He adopted this, aggresive air of confidence, that I felt was a persona he adopted perhaps because of some insecurity or inadequcy issues?
I feel he is a suffferer of the "Zab Judah Syndrome."

I had heard ever since he turned pro rumours from the local boxing gym where I live that people who had sparred with him said he had no punch and that he had been floored several times in sparring.
I always put it down to hearsy but maybe he was just a mediocre fighter who won the Olympics because of a combination of being much older and more experienced, a style perfectly suited to the amatuer system and weak competition that year :-\
Call me crazy though, but I still want him to achieve.
Arrogance aside, he's still an Olympic Gold medallist and it's a crying shame to see such talent wasted.
-
Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
An Olympic Gold medal is an olympic gold medal.
That achievement does not come easy, it symbolises the peak of amateur boxing and that is not easily reached!
I don't like him as such, but as you said I thoink he owes himself some achievements.

Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
Apparently Sprott sparked him in sparring aswell as in the proper fight.
Sprott had to sign some papers that specified he couldn't talk about the sparring session with anyone....because the Audley hype train was building momentum.
Shame about what happened to his brother. Doesn't seem to be having a great time at the minute.
Best of luck to him anyway. Be nice to see him make some noise. Just can't see it happening :-\
-
Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
audley is shit and if he gets back in the ring again hes going to get knocked out again! Hes not a good fighter and promised far too much more than he could actually do. There is no way he can win a title and he should avoid future embarresment and not fight ever again IMO. Hes only going to get beaten and get even more abuse.
-
Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
In his personal venues and his health I hope all is OK with him...Was sad to hear about his brother...Just a young guy 25, 26 or so...Shame to see anyone that young pass away.......
As for Audley making a comeback?....I dont' know?....Maybe al this put the fire under his ass or gave him the desire he needs to take it to the next level....
On a side note....Never mention Audley Harrison and Lennox Lewis in the same breath again:mad::mad::mad:....You should be ashamed of yourselves:(........
-
Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
It was one of the only times I genuinely 100% bought into the hype.
It will not happen again.
-
Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
Ive never really bought into the Audley hype. I suppose this mainly stems from not having been in the Uk for a long time and being away from the hype and media.
Of course, I wish the bloke well...but there is no way he can be a success in boxing. Too old and a record tarnished against whom exactly? :-\
-
Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
the minute he signed that massive contract with the bbc was the end of him, the general public knows fk all abt the differences with amatuer & professional, he needed to learn the trade, the public turned against him after he wasnt fighting for the world title after his 2nd fight or summit. wish him all the best but if u speak the way he used to then u better be bloody good.

Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
I remember when Audley became world champion, stopping that Sonny Liston bloke to win the belt that matters, the WWF I think it was, probably the best champ since Hulk Hogan.
If only a super fight could have been made between himself and John Ruiz. What a boxing contest for the ages that would be.

2 swear words out of eight poorly spelt ones.
Great contribution you are. John Ruiz is a real man, such as myself, and has never truly been knocked out, he's a real champion.

P.S I think you are a cock-nose.
That is all

Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
He knocked someone out a few years ago and was interviewed straight after and just talked to the camera for 5 minutes about how great he was, is it on you tube, its great comedy. Anyhow next fight I think he was knocked out by Sprott I think.

Danny Williams in 3 rounds.
Danny was in great shape for that fight, had an intense training camp, a very long one of oh one week or so.

It was a close call, that's for sure, both fighters stuck to the (un)written rules of heavyweight boxing, no more than 2 punches per round.
In fact, in the first round, no punches were thrown.
Could have gone either way.

I just checkout the forum. I find that very sad, especially when combined with everything else.

Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
The other members are Sprott, Skelton, Williams, and of course Harrison is one of the members. I like how those guys keep preventing each other from getting any World title shots, I'm just waiting for one of those turds to rise out of the cesspool of British heavyweights. :D

Lol exactly what he was wearing a few weeks ago at Repton

Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
Maybe someone should post a link on the Audley forum to this thread, so that at least he knows that someone, somewhere is still talking about him...even if it is in this joke thread.

What do you mean Matt Skelton pulled himself out of the mire and went and fought for Ruslan Chagaev's world title belt.
Of course he lost but instead of returning to the British swamp he's fighting Simil Sam next month I believe. He believes he is too big for the British merry go round now and is instead getting on the European one

Re: Was just on the Audley Harrison site
Simil Sam, he's Turkish isn't he?
Or not, not certain....He's so dazzlingly brilliant I can't make out his origin.

Somewhere like that, he battered the fuck out of Danny Williams a few years ago but has done nothing since.

Thats the dude, I've only seen his Williams fight, but ironically last week I was talking to a Turk about him.
The guy reckoned he was pretty good.
Also informed me of a Turkish martial art which involves leather trousers and the fighters being bathed in olive oil:-\

He also battered Julius Francis and if i remember right because Francis lasted one more round than Williams did, And in his own way he got one other on his old rival Williams because he lasted 1 one more round or something like that wasn't it ??
